I was wondering the same, are Cuban women attractive?
Since their economy is in ruins, there might be more opportunities to date very attractive young women in exchange for gifts / money?

Same for Venezuela I think

Serious question, why would anyone want to go to Cuba?Im just asking as you say it’s poor etc... just wondering the attraction.Im not one to venture out of the USA.So genuinely curious.

I can't speak for anyone else, but for myself it was a gig.  As I have stated before, I do travel photography on the side for a friend that owns a travel agency for "dream" vacations.  I have been all over the world.  For free.   And got paid for it.  Which I think needs to be mentioned because some of the places I have been to, I would never have had a passing interest in otherwise.  One thing I have learned about traveling is that it is always better to go to a place and find out you don't like it, than to sit around thinking you don't like it and missing out.

A lot of places I would never have any interest in actually surprised me.  Then again, a lot of places that most people think are awesome, were very overrated to me.  Last month from April 6-21 I did a gig in Singapore and Australia.  (Cairns/Port Douglas and Sydney).  I have been to those places before, but quite a few people on this trip were very surprised at Singapore and thought  Australia was just "so-so"

You won't know unless you go.

Serious question. What type of camera do you use and can it be used for taking off- shore surf shots? We have pro-surfer that’s willing to help brand our apparel but want to take a lot of photography myself.

If you go to RVCA’s IG you can get idea of what I’m talking about

I take two cameras with me.  Both are older model Canon 20D's.  I have shot so many photos that I never take it out of manual mode at this point.

One 20D has a Tamron 17-50 2.8 on it that has never come off in 10 years.  This is the non VC version.  I am very good at being steady for slow shutter speeds.  Tamron does make a VC version of this lens which is more expensive, but I have only used mine twice.  I found it very loud and slow to focus.    Canon makes a great lens in this range with IS and at 2.8 as well, but it is bigger and heavier.  And more expensive.  Overall, I have found the small Tamron non VC version to be a fantastic workhorse.  It gives better natural tones in warmer colors like red and yellows (skin tones, etc.) than Canon which is much better in the cooler temp color like blue and green.

The second 20D, I rotate lens on it.  In Sydney, I went to Bondi Beach and shot some photos there from the beach with my 100-400 f4.  You don't need a bigger AV range than that for beach shots since there is so much sunlight anyway.  I have a Canon 85 1.4 that is simply awesome for portraits and studio modeling.  The 1.8 version is great too at a fraction of the price.  I sometimes use fisheyes lens, wide angle lens (Sigma is better here), or the Canon 70-300 IS II USM lens which is a fantastic telephoto on par with their "L" series but is much better for walking around than my bulky 100-400 lens.

As far as actually going in the water and getting wet, I wouldn't take my gear in water over my waist.  If I had to do shots like that, I would simply go to a camera shop and rent a waterproof setup for about $100 per day.

When I was in Port Douglas, we did a snorkel and dive trip over the Great Barrier Reef and they had decent little cameras for rent for $35 the entire day.  I was amazed at the quality of photos they delivered at 10 feet underwater for such a small camera.

But if you

Or, you just use common sense and you ask the parents permission first. Helped that my wife was with me But I certainly do see your point, however negative it is for what should be a pretty positive experience.

For me, there are different types of vacations I do. 1 is the complete chill type vacation. My favorite for this is Secrets Maroma Beach in Playa Del Carmen.  Then there is the Adventure vacation, my favorite so far is Costa Rica. Lots of on the go things, little down time. But I've always been curious about Cuba, especially Havana. For decades it was off limits to me but I had heard it was like time stopped in the 60's, and I wanted to experience that. It's certainly not a place I would live, but I'm very glad I went, and I recommend it to anyone who likes old cars, and seeing a country that seems locked in history.

Because living in a communist dictatorship where all the buildings are falling to pieces and the cars or literally antiques rusting apart and where people earn a few dollars a month and don't even have soap or shampoo is a paradise.

Love the place.  Going again for a week in July.  Varadero this time, and prob take a day trip to Havana.  Best beaches, cigars and rum in the world, rarely crowded, super nice people, no beggars or panhandlers (even rare in Havana).  Best of all, no obnoxious, drunken Americans!  Lol jk, kinda.  People won’t understand until the actually visit the place.  IMO, Cuba is the best for the “chill” vacation you mention.  I’ve been to several other Caribbean countries, but I prefer Cuba b/c it’s way less crowded, less drunken fools, safe to leave the resorts and you dont have to deal with the locals tormenting you to buys shit.  There are people selling their wares in Cuba, but a) they dont do it on the beach (except maybe a massage), and b) they wont bother you to buy.  They simply set up shot and sit around until a customer approaches.  That’s the way it should be.

If anyone would like I’d give you the details of the two weeks I spent in Prague. Lurker, it’s ok if you need a map to figure out where Prague is located. We know you don’t get out of your ghetto apartment much.
