Leaving Vegas now, I feel bad for these folks.
« on: March 15, 2020, 11:17:09 AM »
They’re about to take a beating. Stayed at the Bellagio and ordered room service for dinner last night. It was quick, as were the other few times. I asked her if they were busy, with people opting to eat in rather than going to crowded restaurants. She said no, that the hotel was at 30% capacity, and tomorrow they’ll be at 8%. She said that’s the equivalent of one floor. Tipped her well and said sorry about that. The Cinacon movies expo is canceled and the other expos through March. The expo I was at had 79,000 people cancel so it only drew 140,000 instead of 220,000. They canceled the last day. They also said the NFL draft is being talked about like it may not go on but that may be gossip. All shows were at 50% capacity, which was their decision to keep crowds down. The casino at Caesars was pretty packed, as was The Mirage (didn’t visit the ice machine) but Aria and Cosmopolitan were dead. Spoke to the cab driver this morning who said he’s not seen it like this in a while. After I tipped the door man at the casino, we got in and the cabbie was like “he’s getting laid off next week”. It’s pretty depressing to witness but hopefully they bounce back.

Side note, I typically stay at Caesars but stayed the Bellagio this time because of rates for Conexpo, and was not impressed at all. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Sorry to read this. In the past the Bellagio was my favorite hotel/casino of all of them. It just seemed so elegant. Maybe it has gone downhill or is just getting old. Love the fountain display though.

Once things get back to normal there will brawls for convention and hotel space. They’ll recover just fine.  People can only be isolated for so long before they go back to normal.

First confirmed case at my wife’s hospital was a 40 year old guy that came from Vegas.

Caesar’s is a big client of ours. The Harrah’s group manages their points in system we created. I should probably get a better grasp on their cash flow, or better yet the VC group has, to weather this storm. It would have a trickle down to my budgets for sure.

Not knocking you, but you’re a bit older so the “action” wasn’t very good. Their casino was boring. I like the hooting and hollering and energy of a good casino. To each their own.

I love Total Rewards. Hindsight I had enough rewards points to have offset the difference in room rates between the preferential rates of Bellagio and the higher rates of Caesars. But, me and the wife wanted to check out Bellagio, so you live and learn. It was pretty nice, but like I said, Caesars is the best. You don’t even have to leave if you really don’t want to. Hope all is well.

No offense taken. I'm not much of a gambler, never have been, so a quieter atmosphere suits me fine. If it's still there, the Belliago piano bar is my favorite place to hang out and people watch.

Glad to hear this! Totally agree man. You really don’t have to leave their premises. Restaurants, pool, nightlife, forum shops  ;D ;D .. I like the forum shops more than my wife.

Haven’t stayed at Nobu yet though. Have you?

Iron, etc.,

Sorry, DIABLO but I'm somewhat of a pessimist when it coms this Corona situation and so I 'think' that what's happening in Las Vegas prior to this virus situation will most likely never happen again .... at least for the next 10 to 15 years.

Last night the Cirque du Soleil announced that Mystere will close down for the next 3 weeks ..... and I'm sure that the other 7(?) Cirque shows in town will be doing likewise .... which may be officially announced at the time of writing this.

They say '3 weeks' but my unofficial calculation says ... "Much longer!"

As you most likely know by now .... the buffets are closed.

Most of the other major casino shows are, or will be, doing likewise.

Conventions are cancelling out.

And the movie theaters are only selling tickets for 50% of their capacity .... but even that ... I don't think will get people in those seats.

The Strip itself resembled a Ghost-town when I drove through yesterday.

Some of the wiser locals believe that our upcoming warmer weather will destroy this virus and things will return to normal along the Strip before the month of May.

I sincerely doubt that and ... I think that we will see some major casinos simply lock up and hope for an anticipated turn-around during our long and hot summer season.

I also think that once this virus is beaten ... the casinos will have to offer enticements similar to the good old days when buffets were good and cheap, when a blackjack paid 3 to 2, when you could find tables with low-low minimums, when parking was free, and when you could get a room on te Strip for around  $50/night with none of this so-called 'resort fee' shit!

The casinos will have to resort to the old days of doing business if they really want to get this town back on its feet again!

In the meantime ... Lives will be lost, businesses will go out of business, and this town will suffer as it has never suffered before.

I'll give  it 15-20 years to come back ... but when it does ... it's gonna be bigger and better than ever!

Unless another bat decides to shit in someone's soup!

Things will get better. It might take a significant amount of time for the wolrd economy to recover. It might also teach us a thing of two about values in life. In other words, being a bitch or having a gun, a load of money and big calves, ultimately does not matter.

I'm surprised Trumpie and Pencie did not want to shoot the virus...

I just got an email for three free nights and $100 voucher for the month of March and April. I’ve never seen an email like that that wasn’t from somewhere shitty like Atlantic City or something. Never Caesars.

I told my wife, let’s just go get the kids and bring them back since they’re out of school for the next two weeks. J/K

I was coming for coming for a conference expo at Paris casino later this month but it got cancelled last week, was supposed to fly out today to LA for a week prior but that got squashed with our countries return 14 day quarantine, all good. Just can't believe they brought that in today but still had flights coming in from Europe yesterday and no temperature testing at the airport or anything, but now we have 14 day quarantine today.
Not arguing the quarantine just think Europe should have been quarantined weeks ago.

Was staying at Cosmo, cancelled yesterday they still took a large cancellation fee equivalent of 1 nights stay, even where everyone else is forgiving cancellation fees due to the current overblown crisis. They only had 20-30 percent capacity as well.

These are events and experiences which will be remembered and talked about for decades. Many, if not most of us will learn how resilient we are when we are forced to adapt to circumstances we never imagined would happen in our wildest imaginations during our lifetime.

The much broader picture is scary. You will have a whole range of industries almost without customers in the next couple of months:

- cab drivers
- restaurants
- travel related industries
- some service industries

Can the banks handle all this?

This could get real ugly real soon

I hate to burst your bubble but I have not seen any data pointing to a hotter climate having some effect on the spread or voracity of c-virus. Potentially there could be a slight dip in mew cases only because people are outside more and not cooped up together in confined spaces as much but thats about it (only what i think not a statement of fact.)
