Thanks for the welcome, my wife and I are both RNs in Ny. This virus is definitely worse than the flu but it’s not as lethal as the media would have you believe.  My wife, myself and son are all recovering from it now.  Son had a runny nose lol, wife had trouble with breathing. And I almost didn’t make it. Some people have a very bad inflammatory response and your body attacks it’s self. That’s what mostly killing the people they are getting embolisms from their own immune system.  We knew we would get it working in a hospital.  It’s very unpredictable,  we’re getting a better grip on dealing with it and I feel the actual virus itself is weakening in a sense.

meanwhile the death rate is beyond 55k

2.8 million people die a year in the U.S, most from the pre-existing conditions cited in Corona deaths. As mentioned earlier, the testing is deeply flawed. Not hard to shift a portion of the 2.8 million over to Corona.

Are tests available in the USA?

I think I got it on February 20th.

Lots of places.

Whoops, I meant to post this reply here, because Thin Lizzy quoted this portion of Soul Crusher's post from the longer COVID thread [currently 136 pages and counting].  I suppose it's ok to post this in both threads:

During the White House Wuhan coronavirus task force briefing Tuesday evening, Dr. Deborah Birx said the United States has taken a "liberal approach" in the way doctors classify deaths from the virus.

"The intent is right now if someone dies with COVID-19, we're counting that as a COVID-19 death," Birx said. "There are other countries that if you had a pre-existing condition and let's say the virus caused you to go the ICU and then have a heart or kidney problem. Some countries are recording that as a heart issue or a kidney issue and not a COVID-19 death."

Dr. Birx confirms ALL DEATHS of people infected with coronavirus -- regardless of underlying conditions -- are classified as COVID-19 deaths

I've heard this said before.  If this is really happening on a large scale [and not just rarely, or by accident], then that is definitely problematic.

Another thing to consider:

The COVID deaths we are seeing are deaths from a virus that currently has no vaccine, whereas the deaths from the flu are deaths that would otherwise be much higher if no vaccine existed.  So comparing the death counts of each is not an apples to apples comparison.

That being said, the COVID deaths are also at their current number with large scale lock downs in place, and perhaps the COVID deaths would be significantly higher without said measures.  We won't be able to adequately measure this until more time passes and we have more data to analyze.  I still think this virus is being blown out of proportion.

As far as I can tell, those dying under 70 of this virus generally have preexisting conditions.  I'm not yet convinced that COVID is a major risk for the younger segment of the population, or people who are healthy, with strong immune systems, who are not obese, who do not smoke, etc.

But seriously [back to the original point] - if people who die WITH COVID are all being classified as dying FROM COVID, that is extremely disingenuous, and needs to be accounted for in future analyses of the true mortality rate of this virus.

When all of the arguments are nonfalsifiable, you probably have a very fishy story.

You can’t know what would’ve happened in the absence of a lockdown.

If many people display no symptoms, you can’t know if people with symptoms would’ve had them in the absence of the virus.

Interesting!  I need to see if this is available in Canada...

I think there is a definite possibility that I got the virus on February 20th, almost to the very day that Canada started strongly warning about it.  It had been talked about prior to that, but not to the extent it is today, and at the time, there were no cases in my city.

As of today, Thunder Bay has had 67 confirmed cases - 51 have been resolved  :), 15 are active, and sadly, there has been one death.  :( :(

https://www.tbdhu.com/coronavirus

I would be curious to see the statistics broken down by race...somehow I have a feeling that the 2x higher per-capita COVID rate in the USA is the result of racial disparities...just like how if we look at homicide rates: 70% of all homicides in the USA are committed by Blacks and Hispanics, white the White American rate is roughly the same as the White Canadian rate at around 2.0 per 100,000 population per year.  That doesn't stop left-leaning Canadians from constantly moaning on about how violent the USA is, seemingly incapable of grasping that literally the entirety of the disparities in violence can be attributed to disparities in racial demographics.  ::)  On top of that, most of these same Canadians then praise Canada's "diversity", not grasping that it's our lack of diversity that makes Canada safer than the USA.

I suspect that, as is normally the case, the "diverse" [Black and Hispanic] population of the USA is affecting the average, and causing the numbers to be much higher than they would be otherwise.  I would have to check extremely White states like Maine, or 94% White Vermont, to see how those numbers compare to Canada's.  This article covers the four new confirmed cases from yesterday:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/thunder-bay/thunder-bay-covid19-april27-1.5546750

This is pretty sad...you have a blue collar guy working hard, and he contracts the virus at work and dies from it:

Great post!  I love to see this level of critical thinking, and I wish we would see more of it.  You are exactly right about the arguments being non-falsifiable.  Speaking of critical thinking, apparently the second video below had amassed five million views on YouTube before it was removed.  It was from this discussion panel/forum [with media members present]:

I am currently over 19 minutes in, and I'm unclear as to what exactly is wrong with that video...

As for determining the effectiveness of social distancing, the best we can do is look at countries that had different measures in place, ranging from strict lock downs, to simply social distancing as a recommendation, which Kwon said was the case in Sweden [I'm not sure if this changed].

This was the video that was removed from YouTube for "violating YouTube's Community Guidelines".  The title was "Dr. Erickson COVID-19 Briefing", and as said, it was from the same discussion panel/forum as the video above]:

Great counterargument  ::)

Yes it is great. You're not so dumb that you cannot figure out what about that statement was your perspective is flawed.

I presented a point of view (perspective) and you responded by saying you believed my theory was flawed. I didn't present a theory you moron.

Here, maybe the colours will help you understand

The colors were most helpful, thanks. Just to make you happy, I corrected my posts. And you will notice that at no time, either before the fix or after, did I refer to you as a moron. I do think you over-reacted. But that's just my perspective.

Moron is my new default for everyone on here that doesn't agree with me.

I'm interested in hearing the reason why you think what I said  it's flawed, as there are several different arguments that can easily be put forward.

On top of that, Noah did not put two Coronaviruses in the boat so how could there be a Coronavirus in the year of our lord 2020?  Jesus would have had Covid-19 if we believe what the elites are telling us.  Guess what?  Jesus did not have Covid-19 and neither does anyone else in the world.
