Why do I get the idea that this was just glorified fish food - like the flakes you give to a Goldfish?
I can almost smell the reek from here... *buf* *heurgh* 🤢🤢🤮🥴
It was seaweed and ground fish bi-products. The story goes that Hoffman visited Japan, and got a good deal on the stuff, and whammo, you got "Protein From The Sea". His other "Hi Protein" was mostly soy, with some milk proteins added in.
He got smacked by the FDA, and Congress a few times for misleading labeling and poor quality a couple of times for it. Some of his products were even mentioned in a report called "Frauds and Quackery Affecting the Older Citizen" years ago

.
Countless old timers mentioned that you had to drink or eat the whole jug of that sea protein version fast, because every day that you let it sit, you'd get a heavier rotten fish smell.
