If Russia wins do they get all of Ukraine or just the eastern region?

As it stands now they’ll have to give up all of the Donbas, even areas they control and those two other regions Russia has control of. Crimea is long gone but I’d imagine the battle lines will reflect Ukraine new borders.

I'm not an expert but I don't think Russia wants the whole of Ukraine, never did. But may be forced cancel Ukraine as a country. They could have canceled the state at any time I think, just bomb Zelensky and all the politicians. Probably some fear of a WWIII too if they go too aggressive. So they hope for a settlement that seems secure and lasting but it seems impossible to me at this point. So more military destruction it is then. Trump was on board with the Russians at Anchorage, saying "ceasefires typically don't last" but has vacillated every way since then.

That was the original plan at least, when they tried to take Kiev, to control the government and then possibly incorporate the territory into Russia.

Concerning the peace deal, possibly could end with the current areas of control with a DMZ zone. Russia is also trying to bargain for extra territory which they haven't taken, though Ukraine would of course not accept this.

Could also be delaying tactics as used by North Vietnam where the 'negotiations' are a sham and a form of delaying tactics.

Either way, a peace deal with the current borders saves face for both sides:

Russia says they took the Russian-speaking areas.
Ukraine says they stopped Russia taking control of the entire country and government.

The map has barely changed:

Yes, referring mainly to those previous secessionist 'republics' which Russia propped up and whatever narrative they will probably try to use.

Trump's military advisors told him 'Russia is losing'.
Haha, they’re all lying, of course. In what world does Ukraine defeat Russia? Ukraine has reportedly suffered massive losses, and despite constant pressure from Europe and the U.S. to keep funding and arming them, nothing seems to be changing the overall trajectory. Sanctions have been largely ineffective. For Russia, this conflict is existential—they won’t simply stop, and they would escalate, even to nuclear options, if they believed their survival was at stake.

They lost more than 25 million people in World War II during the “Great Patriotic War.” Do you really think a country that endured that would allow itself to be dismantled or balkanized now? France and Germany invaded Russia; Russia never invaded France.

And historically, Poland, Ukraine, and Finland were all part of the Russian Empire just over a century ago.

Well they're in 'peace meetings' now.

Whether a sham or not, we'll see.

Ukraine has just invented a robot jeep with a .50 caliber machine gun on it.

Victory is certain with Russian soldiers riding in to battle on motorcycles.

They actually almost brag about these tactics. Putin says they infiltrate areas in packs of 2 or 3 men and it has been a successful strategy according to him. I don't know shit about warfare so can't judge either way. Obviously I know there are different ways to wage war, a war with Europe wouldn't be surgical like in Ukraine, it would be straight to strategic weapons with no one to negotiate with afterwards, as Putin said. It's pretty wild hearing Euros say they are considering preemptive NATO strikes on Russia. Hopefully it's just words.

Likely there is some truth to it. Both sides (Russia and Euro members of NATO) are gonna ramp up this kinda back and forth. Each side accusing and provoking the other.

You'll probably be doom posting that we're on the brink of WWIII again, but that won't be the case. The goal is to cause fear and destabilisation in Europe, so the wealthier European countries increase their military spending and buy the latest weapons from the US military industrial complex

I said I hope it's just words, because no one can be as stupid as to push it to that level, right? What do you think of the earlier close calls, were they also not real?
For example:

"Yes, the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962 brought the world terrifyingly close to World War III, representing the peak Cold War confrontation where the US and Soviet Union nearly triggered nuclear war over Soviet missiles in Cuba, averted only by tense negotiations and crucial decisions like Vasili Arkhipov preventing a nuclear torpedo launch from a submarine, highlighting how miscalculation, not just strategy, could have led to global devastation"

Many credentialed people have said that during the 12 day war Netanyahu demanded Trump would come in or they would drop a nuke. I think Kirikaou is one if I'm not mistaken. These are just rumors to me, I don't know. The Russians have said no one wants WWIII but a small miscalculation could make things get out of hand, so there's always a small risk. I forget the details but a few years ago the US calculated something like a 10% risk of nuclear war due to something they were planning, I think it was under Biden. Too big of a chance IMO.
