Not exactly. PCR tests for COVID-19 are designed to only give positive results if SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) is present.

Being HIV positive, AIDS and heroin addictions are entirely different things. HIV is a blood born pathogen which causes AIDS. Heroin addicts sometimes share contaminated needles when they shoot up. As you pointed out, heroin is life threatening enough. People like heroin addicts with already compromised health were/are more likely to develop AIDS sooner rather than later. Most people in the U.S. who are HIV positive do not develop AIDS because taking HIV medicine stops the progression of the disease.
