If anyone gets near him he will measure in at 6'6

Fucks sake guy is 6ft tall, all of a sudden hes taller so he can add extra weight

The other competitors should take legal action and have Matt officially measure him

The other competitors (some of them, at least) are doing the same thing. They look better with a bit more mass but can't put it on because of the weight-height restrictions.

Stan Efferding talked about how, when he was preparing Flex Wheeler for the Classic Olympia, Wheeler looked awesome but was 4 pounds over the weight limit for his height. So, they tried using a diuretic on him and he dropped 11 pounds, figuring he'd gain that back after weigh-ins. But Wheeler didn't and he looked flat and off for the show. Once he gained his weight back, it was way too late and the show was over.

It appears now that, if a guys just a few pounds over, he'll just rack himself to be an inch taller for weight-and-height measurements.

My view leans more towards what will generate the most money to keep the industry alive. Unless we are able to make this more mainstream, it will fall to the wayside. Society, Hollywood and popular culture as a whole is less moved by the sheer size of Mr. Olympia competitors. Also, I've spoken to and met many IFBB pros from the 80's up to present day and these guys don't look well in person. Again, just my opinion. I know everyone has a different view of what constitutes looking "well" or "healthy".

For me, Arnold at his prime was pretty huge. Heck, for me, guys like Paul Grant (Wales - Mr. Universe Contestant) or even Ed Corney in 1975 were just right in size and proportions. I don't think the extreme conditioning is a good thing.

If I had to pick a bodybuilder from the past that had just enough size and proportions and the right kind of conditioning, as crazy as he was, Mike Mentzer would be it. I'd even venture to say that instead of the supposed "225lb" he would compete at, he could have likely done just as good at around 205-210lb.

Ramy thighs look ridiculous,,not in a good way.calves suck.platz was considered an anomaly in legs for a while back in his day and still his balance overall leg wise is still pretty much unmatched .

Hopefully Ramy goes away and we don't have to hear his "winter is coming" bullshit anymore.

How exactly are the promoters rigging the show for Bumstead, when other competitors are complaining about the height-weight rules?

I've never heard Bumstead address the issue. Perhaps, it's a case of, "be careful what you wish for....". They want to be able to come in bigger to help themselves. But that also helps Bumstead.

Plus, I thought everyone wanted the white dude. When Breon Ashley was champion, there were people clamored for a tall white guy. Now, they get him and suddenly the show is rigged for HIM?

nj it is quite baffling why the judges love these short ugly fuckers now, honestly in the 90's these dwarfes would not even crack top 10  andrew jacked has the structer for sure, but he is lazy in the gym i think he should let shawn ray train him for a year, shawn would actually put him through real workouts  pretty pathetic shawn at 200 lbs was stronger than andrew is at 300

Naw he got a crazy look different from these other guys. If he gets more hamstrings he can win this show. He's not young though. Everyone acting life he can have a 10yr career because he's just getting started. Doesn't change that in your late 30s you're not at your peak anymore. Like oh he's just getting started he's fresh. He's 38, he's not fresh

One of the many things that suck about "modern" bodybuilding. All I hear is "his legs aren't big enough". As impressive as Platz's legs were, he lost a lot of shows because they were way out of proportion. Now this kind of imbalance is acceptable and even required. Ramy always had ridiculous turnip thighs and would have looked way better if his legs were in proportion.

This, along with too much size, large distracting tattoos, site injections, and the stupid poses they do now are just some of the things that ruin bodybuilding in it's current state. A damn shame.

It's not a short man's game. It's an in-shape man's game. These bigger guys aren't ready for prime time, particularly the Nigerian dudes. Had Samsom Dauda come in a bit more ripped (but still healthy-looking), he could have won this thing. He has the shape and size.

agree mcway  andrew is lazy and was making excuses going into this show, i doubt he will ever win the olympia,  he relies on his genetics to much.  and he only has a few years to reach his peak , i remember all the hype he got going into this show and he didnt do shit

flex wheeler and dorian yates got second in there first olympia outings  as did levrone

He's a rookie. He has time.

Ronnie Coleman placed "16th" his first Olympia.

Dexter Jackson placed 9th his rookie year

Jay Cutler got 15th his first go round.

Brandon Curry either got 8th or didn't place at all (I'm not quite sure).

As for relying on genetics, that was once said about Phil Heath until he finally won the big one.

Doesn’t anyone train forearms anymore…..most the top 5 have literally fuck all forearms in relation too “their” arms  ???

Don’t have a issue with the result….who else were they going too “give it” to?
Good conditioning, more or less complete, fewer weak points etc, given the competition that night I get it

He's a 38yr old rookie. Yates and Wheeler were in their 20's as rookies. So he doesn't have that much time

Saw the live stream and out of the top 5 guys felt Hadi was the clear winner. Hadi had the best conditioning and very few weak points.

My personal opinion (I am sure many will not like this stance), I am more of a fan of the Men's Physique division. I appreciate that they display nicely shaped overall muscle, a small waist, good V-taper and good abs. The look they strive for is highly marketable, will look good in ALL clothing and is attractive to both men and women. Also, there is no one who would tell me that a guy like Brandon Hendrickson is not big enough or impressive looking in terms of his proportions and muscularity.

I think the Mr. Olympia lineup is just filled with competitors that are too damn big. It's not aesthetically pleasing anymore. Also, those guys can barely fit into regular clothing. Women aren't into that shit, only gay men with a propensity for the odd. Besides, off season they look so damn unhealthy and bloated year round, it's not the type of role model you want to represent an industry that pushes forth the idea of "Fitness and Health". Do I think the Classic Physique is a little better? Definitely. I know that my sentiment is based on the fact that I am more of a fan of the Mr. Olympia contests from the late 70's, before hormonal supplementation was taken to another level, but even so, I just think that for this niche to survive, we will have to make it more popular to the common masses.

Anywho, congrats to Hadi. He was the obvious winner and worked hard for it.

As you suggest, many if not most pro bodybuilders today are 'too damn big' and esthetically lacking. They are not inspirational. Who aspires to have that look and probably end up unhealthy or death too early in life. Also, unless someone lives in a nudist colony, they wear clothes most of the time. There are very few manufacturers making clothing designed for ginormous bodybuilder physiques. This results in them wearing ill fitting clothing which often result in them looking  like clown superheroes. This is a fringe group of people.

I am old and no doubt out-of-touch with today’s bodybuilding trends. The 50’s – 80’s classic bodybuilders were my inspiration. Men’s physique division competitors more closely resemble Steve Reeves, Vince Gironda, Larry Scott, Serge Nubret, Frank Zane, and Bob Paris to name just a few. One might say today competitors physiques are more refined than their predecessors because more is known about nutrition, supplements, and training routines.
