i concur with the Fortress.   i was training back when they brought in the Ms. Olympia and thinking ' there is only one Olympia champ per year'.

now there are 11 different categories, each with multiple weight classes; all of which refer to themselves as Olympia champion.

even when they had two weight classes, Mentzer wasn't called the heavyweight class mr. Olympia - they said he lost to Zane.
'

Boxing has gone the same way - now there's 5/6 world champions at each weight class
& the Number of Weight classes has Doubled
And Folk used to Laugh at WWF !!

I'm certain they'll soon have a Mr. Midgie O and a MiR Tranz O and a Ms ShenisO.

FTN.  There should be a Mr. Olympia and that's that.  I think the shorter guys are fantastic when built like the men of the eighties, i.e.,  Class.  Aesthetic over pathetic, if l may... ;D

Padilla was not a tall  guy and I think he was robbed at least once or twice.  He was excellent!  I know that for some it's a big deal to get a pro card but to me it more than appears it's a like a GoFuckMe Card.  All about paying up.

But, at least the Ms. Olympia was its own separate show.

Then they couldn't make up their minds whether they wanted the women to come in soft, curvy, and feminine or go for the horse-face look.

Then came Fitness, which was supposed to replace female bodybuilding (which I think DIED the instant Lenda Murray lost to Kim Chivesky in 1996).

But, the fitness shows had their own problems. The fitness girls who were winning shows, where the the physique round was 50% of the score, got DESTROYED at other shows where the fitness routine was 50% of the score. The girls who were ex-gymnasts were murdering the ones who just looked hot in a bikini.

They tried an obstacle course with the Galaxy contest and that was WORSE. Girls who weren't really athletes were twisting and breaking bones, left and right.

Here comes Figure. You don't have to do anything; just stand there. But they got "too big".

Now comes Bikini, for girls who don't have lats. But some don't have much else either (except for $10,000+ boob jobs). And since these Brazilian girls can't starve away all that junk in the trunk....

WELLNESS is born!!

cool, thanks for explaining.  i got bored with it. it was the most important thing in my life since i was ten years old.   i had a large commercial gym for 25 years and sold it in 2015.  it totally took any joy of training out of my life.  not saying i won't train again, but no ambition right now.

He's a 38yr old rookie. Yates and Wheeler were in their 20's as rookies. So he doesn't have that much time

Chris Dickerson and Shawn Rhoden won their first Olympia titles in the mid 40s. Dexter Jackson competed an extra decade, winning nearly everything except the Olympia again (and he came close in 2015), when people thought he was washed up in 2010.

If he takes care of himself, he has the time to improve.

Exactly.

I have used this method successfully in multiple mediums.

Johnnie Jackson said he did the same thing. Branch Warren saw him at the 2001 Nationals, declaring, "There ain't no way that mother(#*@) is 198 lbs. That's some bull$^*@!!".

Jackson said he nibbled away at a 10-oz chicken breast for an entire week (along with dehydrating himself) to make the light-heavyweight max. The next day, he reportedly weighted 217 on stage.

Now, the Classic guys are putting themselves on inversion tables (I call them "torture racks") to gain an extra half-inch or so, in order to compete at heavier bodyweights.

That's what Logan Franklin wants to do. But, he again complains that the IFBB keeps measuring him at 5'111/2", when his government docs and medical records have him listed at 6' tall.

Blessing Awodibu ran his big fat mouth, talking smack about Nick Walker.

Walker gets the bronze; Awodibu placed "16th".

And Blessing was in good company in doing so.

None of those zillion 16th. place guys should have even been competing.....makes the Olympia look like any old run of the mill show instead of what it was originally intended to be.

They should figure out a way to set a certain cap for the amount of contestants.

I thought they did that already, when they changed the rules to allow only those who win shows to qualify for the Olympia.

It's not top 3 at a Grand Prix show, top 5 at the Arnold, or top 10 at the previous year's Olympia anymore.

Then you have one special invite (how Big Ramy got to and won the O in 2020 and how Lunsford made it this year) and the points system for one guy who didn't win a show but consistently placed high at multiple shows.
