Been tolling for months now deciding at my age (just turned 59) if I should or want to go on TRT...
Primary doctor had me do a test test and the first time my number were low, low 184 (normal range is anywhere between 264/300 to 900...
He prescribed me androgel 1.62 with 2 pumps everyday... Insurance wouldn't pay for it because they said I need more than just 1 test to verify lower than norm testosterone....
So since this first test, I've tested 2 more times. Second time, my number was in the 400 plus range, the next time down to the low 300's....
Taking all 3 test tests together my average is around 320. Still in the normal range, but also on the pretty low range of "normal"...
So because i'm still in the normal range, my doctor won't prescribe it because it would too expensive out of pocket? The insurance won't pay for it...
So I guess it's a male clinic of some sort or not at all?
Oh yeah, also because i'm on Crestor 5mg for my higher than normal cholesterol (although it's not that high, no family history of heart disease/stroke, etc) I now find that this could be lowering my Testosterone. Did a recent calcium score test to check for plaque in the arteries just as a "precautionary" test (optional elective test costing 99 dollars out of pocket) and on the scales of 0-10, 11-100, 101-500, I rated a low "5"... So right now i'm at a very very low risk of heart issues....
So how to move forward with TRT or not is the question...
