"Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her"
"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."
- Jesus Christ
Is this a correct interpretation of Christianity, especially the stoning part?
I grew up in a Christian home, so some verses have stuck. I did use google to copy paste for exact wording.
Excellent Van! Jesus was challenged on adhering to the law when the immoral woman was caught in the act of adultery, and His response wasn’t to dispute the law, but rather ask which among them was worthy to enforce it. Then He forgave the woman and told her to leave her sin.
The Old Testament Law was set for several reasons, but the main reason was to show how no one was able to live according to the rules and there needed to be proper and holy atonement (Jesus being that perfect sacrifice).
What’s interesting is that when read the old testament laws you wonder why some of these rules need to be put in place, but when you realize the chosen people were picked from the midst of a corrupt society, and not because they were righteous or holy but because God simply chose them, and the rules were in part to teach them right way to live because they were lost in the world and it’s ways, it mirrors what happens when people come to and follow Jesus.
