Accounting is a career with the potential of growing it into a million dollar office. He'd be better off doing that instead of embarking on a 10 year journey of soul crushing study only to be a 70 year old rookie at the end of it all.
I think the ship has sailed on any/all of these things. He frittered away his prime earning years living off the passive income of the inheritance and not working.
Odds of a 50 year old with no employment history, dishonorable military discharge, drug addiction, and criminal charges getting any job or starting any sort of successful business in the legal or finance sector in this economy are vanishingly slim.
