No matter what Hitler was or wasn't, we can only judge his actions and intentions(mostly from documents).
Latter, as in intentions, can be somewhat inferred from book(s / sets) like Irving's "Hitler's War"... which hints towards a person differing from the one having been established by mainstream media.
The problems that Irving had faced after the publication of this "monumental heresy" may hint at him having hit, at least, some of "the right spot(s)".
