on the outside looking in
« on: November 22, 2025, 02:11:50 PM »
Since I got out of bodybuilding I cant even get through the online prep and training videos without thinking "What a fucking idiot"

One girl not having a xmas dinner because she was in prep for a show three months away because her husband told her to.

One guy talking about his pre-and post workout drinks and adding in multiple different products including upwards of 15gms of creatine

Not to mention the "almond butter brigade"

Competitors these days seem to live on supplements and pre-packed meals
They bang on about how important the nutrition is then add chocolate to their morning oats

All the emphasis on eating and training but without the copius amounts of drugs they would look like the average gym rat

All I got is that I've tried 20-30 gram single doses of creatine. The influencers say megadoses of it can help mental performance after not getting much sleep. Some Novorapid insulin to help dispose of it in the muscles LOL. Only did a few times so can't evaluate yet. I did read Milos had his athletes use 80 or 100 grams of it a day LOL. I never considered higher doses, though I remember Poliquin saying 40 grams a day and 20 grams on maintenance mode LOL, and this was when it was just introduced to the market.

I did see some peptide company selling lyophilized phosphocreatine to be used before workouts but the dose was in the milligrams. I just remembered that the Bulgarian company that made Tribestan had a product called Energix and I remember it was a vial and the cap held phosphocreatine powder to be dumped in the solution before drinking it.

I am impressed you could even watch a minute amount of them.  Nothing about "dieting" for a show even remotely interests me anymore.  For me, just being more fit is a better reward

Swifty,
Now you train for health and to maintain physical capacity as you age.
Don't let yourself go to pot.
Muscle lost at older ages is very difficult to regain.
Don't make me have Bhanky come over to England and kick your ass for not taking care of yourself.

You need strong muscles so you don't fall down and break your hip.
Alright, that's it...I'm sending Hankins over there.
You were warned!

One study said grip strength and longevity are related.

And the breaking the hip thing is relevant.

It's like that with all such "communities" of people who think their behaviour is completely normal. Yet to the outside world that has some common sense the fitness / bodybuilding community is bizarre, unhealthy and ridiculous.
All the fitness lifestyle fitgirls and gymdudes take everything way too seriously.
The fitness centre is a means, not a goal in itself. People who hang out there for hours per day really have no clue what they are doing.

A lot of it seems like a mix of attention seeking, "virtue" signaling, coping, and good old plain stupidity

most old men think they can handle themselves, you see them squaring up top 20 year olds like John L Sullivan thinking they are as fit and fast as they were in their teens

Easier to get one of these and wrap it arounds someones fucking head

Not one of them will admit that the drugs are over 80% of bodybuilding success

You can eat a shitty diet and flop through routines and still look great as long as the drugs are in

Most young guys who trained in the gyms in the 90s used to just cycle gear through the summer months for the dance festivals and holidays.
None of them ate well or trained hard but they all looked great

Buddy of mine from Boston said that same thing about summer.  They wanted nothing to do with being on stage.  They loved going to the beach and eating ice cream looking great.  They did train hard though.

We've all been there.  I missed out on ONE Thanksgiving.  Swore I would never do it again.

BTW, did any of the Three Wise men ask you what you had in your tupperwear container?

I don't search out videos on places like YT (that have long formats), but I still have some to pop up on my Reels feature of FB.  I generally scroll right past them unless it is Jay, Dorian, and on occasion Priest.
