Haftors 510kg is still a better lift in my eyes. Faster bar speed and no hesitation in lock up.

But this is more, and a record! Amazing lift!

I don't usually cry about risks but if he's smart he'll do everything possible to stay healthy, keep that blood pressure reasonable and so on. I don't worry about the back so much, not that that isn't any consideration, it's 511kg! :D

In any case it's not necessarily so that he'll push that that much more, there aren't always many such performances in a body, despite the young age. But time will tell.

Personally I hope Thor can use this for motivation to kick it up and get 515 maybe even 520. This kid is pretty young, if he can stay healthy and has the desire to improve on it, he has years to accomplish records.

Thor is quite humble and a nice kid (he's only 37). In the heat of battle they can all be dicks, goes way back.
Even a couple decades ago, Shaw would whine and cry about Big-Z on the Jesse-Marunde and there was one other big Strongman forum where its name is escaping me.
Eddie is mainly the one sore sport in recent decades, and he cant carry most of the guys gym-bags. amazing static strength, but zero longevity and zero placing-history.

A fukkin buffoon...

I mean, really????

I mean, a man vs. a child...

Not of the same species.
Again, Eddie, amazing strength. However, compared to the best ever (w/ big Z) strongmen, he's a hack..

Yeah, but did he beat the world record for pounds?

For those who care 511 kg is 1126.56 pounds.

that's cool and all but all these records are with suits and figure 8 straps. They wouldn't be close without it

Bennedikts 460 is still the world record to me.

Yes the grip especially is a big limiting factor. The suits might not help everyone. I had the most insane increase from a suit I've ever heard of. From 300kg to 350kg overnight on conventional. Some friends got zero from them or only 5-10kg. I did sew the straps so I could just barely manage to grab the bar. Getting the straps on was difficult, a training partner standing on a bench pulling and then getting their fingers trapped and yelling ooww! LOL :D

well not only grip..

the figure 8 straps helps alot because it allows them to "hold" (read hang) the weight by the straps at the end of their tippy fingers thus raising the starting point by like 2 inches...

imagine if you could start your deadlift from 2x20kg plates stacked... yeah thats how much it helps...

True, although these guys might not use them exactly like that, grabbing with basically a full grip anyway. I watched the vid again and by the end it did look like it hanged lower than it otherwise would 8) These guys are brutes, not technicians so much :D

You're absolutely right in this case, real potential advantage.

Regarding height at start, I had a training partner who won the deadlift event at IPF world champs and his rack pull from a couple of inches below the knee was lower than his max from the floor. Go figure. Probably got momentum going better by utilizing more leg or glute at start.

well that goes against any logic as the strongman tire deadlift has always been higher than the standard eleiko plate deadlifft

and well most 99% of all people are stronger in rack deads than conventional deads

Amazing deadlift. Nobody here a few years ago would have predicted that a 5'-9" guy from Mexico, only 26 years old, would end up making a new deadlift world record. Also great sportsmanship from Hafthor. Now he needs to learn a little Engrish so we can see him collaborate with Eddie, Hafthor, Brian, Larry, etc.

 :D

Never noticed the strap-hang before.  They should have to do it naked (nh), no "equipped" bullshit straps suits etc.

Also, while I realize it's 1000+ lbs and things are going to bend a lot more than when I do my cute little 315 dead, that seemed like an unusually large amount of bend in the bar.  Reduces how far the weight has to be moved by quite a bit.

Strong Mexican nonetheless.

They also use a longer "deadlift bar" to reduce the range even more as it bends more. The deadlift bars are also made thinner so your grip is stronger although it doesn't matter with the straps. We have a deadlift bar at the gym and I'd like to use it but my partners don't want to change. A deadlift bar feels more gentle on the body as the lift feels softer due to the extra bend. It can cause a whip effect that can make it harder if you aren't used to it and don't know how to work it.

Some powerlifters with small hands were really limited in the deadlift due to grip, I think Kirk Karwoski was one. One powerfully built fella at the gym has tiny hands so he gave up on powerlifting and went bench only :D

well that goes against any logic as the strongman tire deadlift has always been higher than the standard eleiko plate deadlifft

Not trying to argue but there's logic behind what I say and it's not just my buddy, I know other powerlifters who say the same. It has also been discussed by many powerlifting coaches how some have stronger floor pulls compared to just below the knee. You have the momentum created if you have really strong leg drive. The rack lift is more back and weight feels more "dead" for many. I had a stronger rack lift but I had pretty a straight leg style floor deadlift as well and I did a ton of good mornings, even did them seated straddling a bench, took the hams out more. So I had a relatively strong back compared to legs which were always twigs. If you look at how weight lifters start; they squat all the way down then come up just a bit before they initiate, gives more momentum, but at the same time I realize it's a different sport. Strongman is more brutish than powerlifting, a bit less technique. They often hitch like the fella did here a bit, powerlifters don't.

Edit. I asked AI LOL. See the 'anatomy match' at the bottom.

It depends on height of the person. I trained with a guy that was a little shorter so rack pulls for me were below the knee, for him it was above his knee so a bit easier. So unless they are changing the lift height, a shorter guy might have an easier time with rack pulls/strongman tire type lifts.
