:D

Never noticed the strap-hang before.  They should have to do it naked (nh), no "equipped" bullshit straps suits etc.

Also, while I realize it's 1000+ lbs and things are going to bend a lot more than when I do my cute little 315 dead, that seemed like an unusually large amount of bend in the bar.  Reduces how far the weight has to be moved by quite a bit.

Strong Mexican nonetheless.

Yes no straps should be allowed you lift what you ca lift and if your grip is a weak point then train it harder.

I agree that lifting without straps is more 'pure' but unfortunately there's only so much you can do grip wise, you're limited by finger length.

I mentioned the powerlifter Karwoski so had to google what he did for grip.

They also use a longer "deadlift bar" to reduce the range even more as it bends more. The deadlift bars are also made thinner so your grip is stronger although it doesn't matter with the straps. We have a deadlift bar at the gym and I'd like to use it but my partners don't want to change. A deadlift bar feels more gentle on the body as the lift feels softer due to the extra bend. It can cause a whip effect that can make it harder if you aren't used to it and don't know how to work it.

Some powerlifters with small hands were really limited in the deadlift due to grip, I think Kirk Karwoski was one. One powerfully built fella at the gym has tiny hands so he gave up on powerlifting and went bench only :D

Not trying to argue but there's logic behind what I say and it's not just my buddy, I know other powerlifters who say the same. It has also been discussed by many powerlifting coaches how some have stronger floor pulls compared to just below the knee. You have the momentum created if you have really strong leg drive. The rack lift is more back and weight feels more "dead" for many. I had a stronger rack lift but I had pretty a straight leg style floor deadlift as well and I did a ton of good mornings, even did them seated straddling a bench, took the hams out more. So I had a relatively strong back compared to legs which were always twigs. If you look at how weight lifters start; they squat all the way down then come up just a bit before they initiate, gives more momentum, but at the same time I realize it's a different sport. Strongman is more brutish than powerlifting, a bit less technique. They often hitch like the fella did here a bit, powerlifters don't.

Edit. I asked AI LOL. See the 'anatomy match' at the bottom.
I believe you, I personally am a LOT stronger on rack deadlifts, I remember years ago I could do almost 1000 lbs on rack deadlifts, I think I did 975 lbs and the bar was bending a lot, it was insane, I stopped doing those because they have virtually no carry over to the real deadlift. The most I ever deadlifted was 501 lbs in competition, I was 175.5 lbs, I'm 5'7', I was 29 yrs old

Bro... are you being serious? If you are, what did you weigh when you did that? I think I did about 950 or 970 (430 or 440kg) but it was basically just the bar moving half an inch for one second, I very briefly had it in my hands LOL. I thought I had uploaded it somewhere but can't find it. It was just an odd lift with no real purpose behind it other than to see where I failed, grip (no straps) or otherwise. 500 is very good at that BW but that rack lift would be truly, truly insane : :o

:D

Exactly my range with the 430 or 440kg :D

Do you like deads, have you tried banded deads? Nothing I've experienced in the gym is as intense as banded deads.

Bar weight 240kg felt like 400kg at least at the top LOL. All of us "strong" guys missed with one plate on the bar the first time we tried these with these bands, suddenly it feels like there's a dead stop but you have to fight through and attempt to accelerate. The tension on the traps... you have to experience it to understand, it feels like they are about to detach from the skull. Fucking love it :D

Lamar Gant's most famous record is a 661-pound (300 kg) deadlift at a bodyweight of 132 pounds (60 kg), making him the first person in history to deadlift five times his own body weight.

Background and Legacy:

Scoliosis: Gant competed with severe adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, which caused an extreme spinal arch that paradoxically improved his pulling leverage for the deadlift.

Achievements: He won 15 or 16 International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Championships and set dozens of world records during his career.

No suit,no straps !!

Okay, but he was literally a deformed hunchback and that gave him a huge advantage?

His weird spinal hump and bizarre freakshow build probably gave him MORE of an advantage than a suit or straps? ???

I mean, I respect his lift.  But I also respect the WR that was just set.  And the new record is honestly way more impressive.

Look where his hands are. Sports is never equal :D

Real aficionados, LOL, look at performances beyond numbers to rate them. In lifting you can look at how clean a lift is. I mean you can look at Haftor's and this Mexican guy's lift and see if there's more or less hitching between them and how smooth, fast and convincing it was. But IMO if a guy is a good sport he won't bring these things up himself if his record is beaten, the judges decided. If I was that Mexican I would have cried too :D

Powerlifters usually don't know what to think of Lamar Grant, great or mostly just deformed :D

Rack pulls are from below the knee or right at it. All this mid-quad stuff is just silly and gay.

How about some deficits instead? Wonderful. Along with good mornings best assists for increasing deadlifting strength if that's the goal, just in my opinion of course. Two exercises most absolutely loathe. The deficit dead would be a wonderful whole body lift in the bodybuilding sense as well since it  involves even more quad and ham. A deficit dead, a push movement, an underhand pullup and whole body trained pretty much.

17 years ago I was doing maxes from a small deficit in a suit just because I thought it was fun LOL.

Both wonderful exercises. Good mornings are almost always done incorrectly.

What do you see people do incorrectly? Almost no one does good mornings in regular gyms period in my experience. Ooh watch out you're going to hurt your back! :D

For bodybuilding you can do GMs on the smith machine and it's one hell of a ham exercise too. Instead of straight leg deads or RDLs and you don't stress the hands and upper back in case you're already doing a lot for them anyways.

99% don't use a full range of motion and the vast majority roll their lower back. I never tried GMs on the smith machine, that sounds gay. I would do GMs or RDLs after squats on leg day. Anyone doing "straight" leg deads is almost guaranteed to be lying, we all bend our legs slightly or they start rounding their backs to get the barbell lower thinking they are increasing the ROM.

True, but 661 pounds is a shitload of weight when you only weigh 132 pounds.

Haha you're right people rarely lock their legs, and I was actually debating whether I should edit straight into stiff; I typically do a dozen edits within 30 seconds of posting, I want to be as precise as possible. Sometimes just when I'm falling asleep suddenly it occurs to me I misspelled a word and it bothers me LOL, weird hang-up :D

The smith is surprisingly useful, I tried it after biceps surgery when I could only hold on with one arm. You can sit back real far better for more hams or whatever and so on.

I used the angle smith for shrugs and CGBP. Don't like the straight up/down version.

I think I was still about 175 lbs, maybe 180 lbs I'm not sure, yeah we can lift insane amounts of weight in certain short range movements lol, I always sucked at the deadlift due to my long torso and short arms/legs, but i'm good at the squat and bench
