Countdown to when Nick Walker gets a blood clot and his career ends. We will revisit this thread when the clot occurs.

Why him and not the others? In fact, he has larger veins, hence less likely to clots  ;D.

Point of clarification, are we doing Price Is Right, where going over knocks you out? Or just closest to the number, over or under?

If over loses I’m in at 18 months.

If closest wins regardless 24 months.

Definitely the right move and you would think this would help the transition.

Many fumble it though; not easy To change our identity.

Ronnie Coleman didn’t have to change and he never did.

Most people need to create an alter ego.

In the 00’s I worked a job no one was impressed with.

Getting out of there took some supreme focus and a chip on my shoulder.

I think closest. His body can’t survive much longer.

He’s either going to blow out a hamstring again, tear a quad, his leg veins will burst, he’ll get a hernia, or he’ll be crushed in the leg press.

I said in another thread that this would be a fine time to just walk away. This is an unbelievable achievement considering where he came from and this would be a nice capstone on his career. Salvage whatever health is left and just enjoy. But I'm sure it's too hard.

I've said many times that I think it's unbelievable that he's still standing. He did come up when health parameters were starting to be taken more seriously, something as simple as blood pressure. Kidneys are a prime example of where BP monitoring and BP meds could have saved some bodybuilders in the previous generation. "I didn't know you could take BP meds and bodybuild" - Fouad.

Ronnie is always laughing and seems genuinely thankful and happy. But it would have been better if he had walked away a few years earlier. It wasn't necessarily the drugs that caused his problems per se, it was the disc issues. The surgeries might have a mistake, I don't know, not to discount him breaking those screws in his back.

I see those as minor things, as long as organs are OK :D

He seems to lift carefully actually. Non-explosive and deliberate. Also avoiding high risk movements, lots of machines.

I agree with what you’re saying. I think what many people have in common in bodybuilding is they keep lifting and knowingly doing things that hurt them because they love bodybuilding so much. I would say that even applies to me.

Ronnie just loved “the sport”  too much to stop. I’m sure he was warned. Cutler even once said Ronnie loved bodybuilding more than him. I think Nick knows his health is at risk, but the glory of winning more means more to him than being healthy. I don’t think he can handle being at a lower body weight. Nick the Monster Walker would never want to be Nick the Stick Walker again.

Even peaceful Even Centopani, whom I consider very health conscious and intelligent, seems to still be juicing, still eats to be at a high body weight, yet is retired.

I noticed Nick’s form on legs is much deeper with his feet turned out per the advice of Jared Feather. I think his form is good, some of the best. But I think he’s going to keep going deeper and deeper in pursuit of the deep stretch, he’s going to get heavier, and his body won’t be able to handle it at some point. I’m sure he must sleep with a Cpap machine. To me it just looks like his body is decomposing and his organs are ready to give out on him.

Looks like his veins or his gut will explode. But irl it usually is their heart that gives out. Or his kidneys due to diuretics abuse.

Yeah I have the same thoughts about the stretch. You try to go deeper and deeper and at some point it does more harm than good. There's limited research which implies loading at the stretched position induces more growth; I saw there was some video that questioned the premise but there's so much content so I never watched it. And then you see pros who never do full range and are just as good.

I'm recovering from the bicep surgery but now I remember that for months I've been doing just the end range on a preacher machine as a supplemental exercise with very light loads and doing 30-40 slow and controlled reps, I even put a yoga mat on the pad so it was truly fully stretched. My biceps didn't grow LOL and perhaps it was even harmful for the tendon, I don't know :D

But irl it usually is their heart that gives out. Or his kidneys due to diuretics abuse.

I had heart failure after covid and they saw I had left ventricular hypertrophy from steroid abuse. The hypertrophy came down and ejection fraction is normal now. But still, on my recent cardiologists visit she said I'd like to eventually see you back on Aldactone (diuretic). Tried it years ago but my potassium got too high so I got off it but now she says we have other drugs we can add to keep the potassium in check. More drugs, because why not LOL. Now, I was on "just" an ARB and a beta-blocker the last several years. She did immediately add Forxiga and I looked on bodybuilding forums and some bodybuilders use it preventatively because it protects the kidneys among other things so it might be a good idea.

Quote
"I have posted a lot about it here in the last few years. It is honestly one of the greatest drugs any human being can use for overall cardiovascular health. It’s also excellent for kidney health. The evidence is so robust at this point that it is hard to find a credible argument saying otherwise, unless it’s for certain exceptions."

https://www.professionalmuscle.com/forums/index.php?threads/jardiance.187461/

Jardiance is same class of drugs as Forxiga

Anyway, all the coaches claim they use diuretics very sparingly these days, some claim they often do shows without taking any at all, perhaps why the guys look more watery than in the 90s. We don't hear about guys landing in the hospital like in the 90s; even Bob Chick did. I think the main kidney killer is long term high blood pressure. Now most guys are on BP meds; more drugs but probably for the best. Maybe why Nick isn't on dialysis yet.

He can only win the olympia again with razor sharp conditioning and can he pull it off twice?

Maybe Samson or Chinedu's body will give out 1st why does
everyone think its just Nick taking boat loads of drugs.
Both Samson & Chinedu are much older than Nick.

How far back do we need to go in bodybuilding history to find a bodybuilder with a decent waist and not a turtle gut?

The conditioning was good but I don't know if it was even his best ever conditioning. Certainly nothing extra special for him, IMO. In some pics he looks sloppy as shit anyway. He can pull off the conditioning for sure, will he have the same luck twice is a more relevant question. Overall I think Samson looked the most pleasing, just a teeny-weeny bit better conditioning and he would have won. Samson had straight firsts in the final.

Right, and you can't always see 'health' by looking at them. Nick is ugly as shit so he must be most unhealthy, I think the nasty varicose veins really add to the assumption.

Arnold said Mike Mentzer had a bubble gut :D

I think you have to go back to when the weight/height ratio exceeded a certain point. Milos claimed insulin added like 15-30 pounds on everyone across the board so perhaps that might be when it was becoming really common. Early 90s.
