What’s the point of protesting against AI? It’s already here and it will continue advancing regardless of protests. Banning it in the US would only put us at a disadvantage. Other nations will push ahead and develop superior AI. Technology is inevitable. It’s like horse and buggy workers protesting the automobile or telegraph operators protesting the telephone.

If you don't want to watch it, here's the summary: Bill Gates explains that only a moron would believe a.i. is like the steam engine and will actually create more jobs than it takes away. In the past machines were good at one or a few things, obviously that was not a threat to humans. However a.i. being smarter than humans and better at pretty much anything, how is that going to create jobs 

He proposes that society doesn't need to accept it, and suggests at least taxing a.i. agents to keep the pensions afloat. I recommend watching the video.

Some guardrails might make sense, but AI is a useful tool, and if certain jobs become obsolete as a result, so be it. Banning it just to protect outdated work would only put us behind other societies.

A.I. is a race to make human labor obsolete, so being behind in this race should be considered a good thing. Unless of course you're part of the billionaire class who is looking forward to ruining the lives of normal people.

But they should be protesting against the use of a.i. to replace human labor. The pension system will totally collapse when millions of people will be out of a job, and how will people even afford housing, food etc? This entire thing is totally fucked.

In the best case scenario, companies will pay a small tax on a.i. labor and people will get universal income in the form of a few hundred bucks worth of bugs and government cbdc coins. Kiss your middle class life good bye. Abject poverty coming soon.

I don't think AI will make human labor obsolete. Some jobs will become obsolete, some will stay largely untouched by AI, and others will use it as a tool. But it won't eliminate the need for people. Lower level coding jobs may become close to obsolete. But AI isn't going to mow your lawn or handle your plumbing and electrical work. And just as we still have accountants and mathematicians even with calculators and Excel, many roles will persist as technology changes.
