« on: May 13, 2006, 06:03:25 PM »
Want to listen to Phil Heath after he wins the Colorado Pro Show? Want to hear Steve Weinberger talking about his experiences at the Colorado Pro and his assessments?

Well - here comes another radio show. No, this isn't Dan Solomons and Bob Cicherillo's Probodybuildingweekly Radio show, but Larry Pepe's newest venture. The first radio show is on Sunday, May 14th...

Here is more information on it...

http://www.getbig.com/news/2006-02/060512muscleradio.htm

Larry also has another radio show for the female oriented listeners, called Hardbody Radio hardbodyradio.com. Info on that is here...

I will be on Hardbodyradio.com this afternoon to discuss the Colorado Pro Figure placings with Larry.

The PDI will certainly come up from time to time on the show muscleradio.com but rest assured the shows are IFBB/NPC driven.

Listen to a live interview with Phil Heath at muscleradio.com today at 4:05 PST. This will be Phil's first interview since his Colorado victory. Judge Steve Weinberger will also be on the show and I'm told he is open to discussing what happened with the sucker punch.

Muscle Radio – the first show – some notes. While I didn’t have time to listen to it all, wanted to hear how Larry Pepe sounded, and if it would be different from Pro Bodybuilding Weekly.

Larry Pepe started by wishing everybody a Happy Mother’s Day.  Steve Weinberger was waiting on the line – as Phil Heath won the Colorado Pro show yesterday and Steve was there to give some of his analysis on that.   The first thing Larry wanted his audience to know iis why they start at 4:05. It is because the studio is run like an AM radio station. Every top of the hour – they run a live feed for five minutes, usually of current news.  Larry said the show will be interesting – as you will hear in the second segment. It is about usually training segments – not just about bodybuilder’s lives. The scoop section is where there will be updates – contest results – articles.  There will be a past show area on the site since 80% of the people do not listen to a radio show live. They call it it On-Demand Replay.

Talked about how Rick Collins – an IFBB laywer – a steroid lawyer – has agreed to be on the show whenever he is needed. Rick is also a criminal defense lawyer. Larry Pepe used to be a lawyer too. Also, Steve Weinberger is also part of the team. Both Larry and Steve were National NPC Judges. Steve owns a gym with Bev Francis.

Regarding the incident that Steve was involved with a trainer and a punchout, Steve said “The trainer wasn’t happy with his athletes callouts – we spoke – someone I knew – turned around – got hit from behind. After that – situation of a situation – and everything is fine right now. I like to think of myself as a peaceful person.”

Steve Weinberger on Gary Strydom. Gary looked terrific, skin was tight, still holds great muscle, it was amazing, condition was excellent, been away for 10 years, looked like he hasn’t posed in a while. His back was a problem, looks liked it still is.

Tryo Alves. I think he needs a rest, a little burnt out. Not as hard as he usually is. He is dangerous when he is on. He needs a break. He may not even do the Olympia, he needs a break.

Regarding the Colorado Pro Show: This was a first time pro show, I have to take my hat off to Shawn Ray, the lighting was perfect, the stage was nice, it was an absolute class act. Bob Chicherillo and Dan Solomon were a great team to use as emcees. Next year they are doing it again on June 1st.

Regarding Bill Wilmore – He looked excellent. Better than he was when he won the Nationals. It was a tough top 5 to break.

Regarding Marcus Haley – 4th. It was a coin toss between Bill Wilmore and Marcus Haley. They were neck in neck.

Regarding David Henry – He is always dialed in – stage presence was perfect – very polished. He is really a professional.

Regarding Phil Heath, Phil was 100% on the money. He was dialed in perfect, flawless, conditioning was perfect, skin quality was perfect. Symmetrical is perfect, his back is wide in comparison to his waist.

Regarding Darrem Charles, Darrem looked great, could have been a little been tighter. They were close, but Phil Heath beat all mandatories against Darrem.

Regarding the NY Pro next week, other athletes that should compete there include King Kamali, Dennis James, Alex Federov, George Farah, and many of the guys from the Colorado Pro.

Does Heath win next week? Steve said “I am not a betting man, I am just a judge”

------------------

The second part of the hour, originally we expected to have Phil Heath on the show.

Larry said “I know you were expecting to hear from Phil Heath – but I got cold cocked, like Steve Weiberger did in Colorado. I am not thrilled about it, but not devastating. I am sorry to not have him here.  I didn’t get any phone calls from anybody on this. I did get an email from Peter McGough saying that due to contractual obligations, Phil can’t appear on the show, but that was via email this morning.  I will always take the high road… but I don’t think taking the high road doesn’t mean telling the truth.

Regarding Phil Heath, and my claims on the website. As of 3am this morning, everything was ready to go. A friend of mine was with Phil and everything was confirmed, everything set. I was in shock this morning when I found out that I didn’t have a guest for the premier show. I won’t let anyone make me sound or look like a liar. I have been around this sport for a long time, I know the politics.

I made sure that the powers that be in the IFBB and NPC were not opposed to the show in advanced. I spoke to Peter McGough on it, told him that the guest was going to be Phil Heath, had a great conversation, told him it was not a Musclemag Productions, and that Sprayflex owns it.  I invited him to come on the show which he agreed to do, and put links on the website.   It came as a total shock to me today when I got that email.

I did appear on Probodybuilding Weekly about a month ago regarding changing the Mr. Olympia to have weight classes.  I have nothing but respect for Dan Solomon, but do I think there will be one internet radio program? No! There may be 5 or 10 radio shows in the future. Had some conversations about doing some things together, but I found out I can do my own thing in a studio near my house, I would have full ownership of the show, wouldn’t have any sponsors to be accounted to. I called Dan directly, told him that it would be best to do something on my own. We only had 2 conversations.  Talked to Bob Cicherillo also about it too.

I am questioning the other sponsor of ProBodybuilding Radio. I don’t know if Muscletech is going to have an issue with their athletes coming on Muscleradio.com, now that AMI/Weider has blocked all of their athletes.  At the end of the day, I can guarantee you that we will have many athletes who want to come on and talk about their training, whatever they want, etc. Also have the judges, and many others. What does the audience want to have? Larry Pepe has committed for six months on what to do?  I want to have suggestions, and we will have real talk bodybuilding radio soon.

Typical for the IFBB pussies to pull this shit.  Same thing with the other radio show.  What a bunch of babies.  Now Solomon's radio show is supposed to be so big that the athletes can't even do another show.  Something is wrong here where a half-assed radio show and a group of pussies who only sanction BB shows cause they can't actually do it on there own tell people what they can and cannot do.  And they don't have the balls to cancel on their own.  They have to email.  Now if that ain't being a chicken shit then what is.

Peter McGough doesn't want you to know this
« Reply #14 on: May 15, 2006, 05:19:41 PM »

Larry Pepe, who runs RIVAL muscle radio show:

"I did get an email from Peter McGough saying that due to contractual obligations, Phil can’t appear on the show, but that was via email this morning."

"I made sure that the powers that be in the IFBB and NPC were not opposed to the show in advanced. I spoke to Peter McGough on it, told him that the guest was going to be Phil Heath, had a great conversation, told him it was not a Musclemag Productions, and that Sprayflex owns it.  I invited him to come on the show which he agreed to do, and put links on the website.   It came as a total shock to me today when I got that email."

They threw him under the bus- McGough pulled Phil Heath from that radio show at the last minute, ruining the DEBUT of their radio show.

This has been deleted from getbig, and I was BANNED from Ironage JUST FOR ASKING.

I do not know.  I thought the goals of PBBweekly was to GROW the sport- not monopolize the airwaves by controlling all weider athlete appearances.

And, since PBW is a getbig sponsor, that would make sense for them to delete it :(

So you guys don't want any other BBing radio stations to survive?  You pulled the plug on MuscleRadio, and actually had the gall to wait until AFTER Heath was advertised to do it.  You screwed Larry Pepe.

I spoke to Peter about this - this was never his intention at all. There is an agreement with Pro Body Building Weekly and AMI, since they sponser it, that the AMI athletes appear on that show only. It is simple. There is probably an agreement with Muscletech too.

When Peter talked to Larry about it on Tuesday, and they are friends are a very long time, it seemed ok. But then Peter got the word from others that it cannot be done. Peter didn't have Larry's number in Colorado, Larry wasnt there, thus the email.

But Peter and Larry have talked, and keep in mind that Steve Weinberger, who is an IFBB official and NPC official and is part of that show. There is room for two shows, provided that they don't have the exact same content.

Obviously, this was not right, but if there was an agreement, then Peter is obligated by it. Peter takes care of the magazines.

But be pateint, there will be a very cool guest this Sunday on Muscle Radio. Larry Pepe has a lot of people who want to appear on the show!

This Muscle Radio show was downright crippled- they spent all their resources advertising Phil Heath, and McGough pulled the carpet out from under them at the last minute VIA EMAIL, citing contract problems.

Even worse is that he smiled and nodded and didn't reveal Phil wouldn't be there until the last minute :(

It seems pretty obvious McGough does not want to talk about it.  I had been a member on Ironage for 18 months, and I was immediately banned for asking about it.  Strange.

Hmm.... nope. I will continue to let any show promoting bodybuilding radio here. Muscle Radio was even in the News section, and as long as there is news worth reporting, it will be here.

But lets face it, Pro Bodybuilding Weekly has worked hard to get where they are, bring us the big competitors, and Bob and Dan are pretty good at what they do. Tonight's show was pretty good.

Larry Pepe will do well on Muscle Radio also, and as long as the shows are different, many people will listen to both.

Hold on.

You're supposed to be a radio show...like media, right?

Then why do you give a rat's ass what anyone thinks within any organization?  I don't get that part - why are you checking with anyone to see what they're in favor of or opposed to?

By even making a statement like that, you've already compromised your credibility.

Hmm... AMI pays a competitor a lot of money per the exlusive rights for interviews and photo shoots. Since Phil Heath is an AMI athlete, this applies to him too. He gave an interview on a radio show detailing his experiences on the Colorado Pro, etc, something the magazine would of liked. Is it a concern for the magazine who he talks to sure. Perhaps they wanted the story and interview.

I don't agree with it, but unfortunately, it is the same with many organizations out there, from television shows, to actors, to music, to sports. Tre, you are in Los Angeles, you should know this.

When you are ready to pay for an athlete and become a sponsor, then you have the right to dictate what you want in the contract.
