Bob and Dan: Weider Radio?
« on: May 15, 2006, 07:29:20 PM »
I spoke to Peter about this - this was never his intention at all. There is an agreement with Pro Body Building Weekly and AMI, since they sponser it, that the AMI athletes appear on that show only. It is simple. There is probably an agreement with Muscletech too.

Dan and Bob- Is it true that you guys are now sponsored by AMI?

Does this mean you will only have AMI/Flex athletes on, or still include muscletech or MD guys?

Are AMI/Weider athletes now banned from doing any other radio show?

Will you guys still be having Wayne DeMilia on the show after the NOC, as you originally said you would?

Thanks!

Now 240 you know the answer to that question.  Chick is a weider boy true and true and they will stick to what those weider brothers want. That dude has too much power to bump heads with, why else do you think Arnold put up with him all these years, its b/c he looks at him as a father figure  that is bunk along witht he weider princples.    my 2 cents.

Weider/AMI athletes are no longer allowed to go on any radio show besides this one.  There can be 50 BBing radio shows pop up in the next year, and guess what?  ANyone you see in FLEX will not be allowed on any of these shows.

Good to see the IFBB and Pro BBing Radio is more concerned with their contracts and keeping control, than GROWING THE SPORT.

Wayne Demilia lets his PDI athletes compete where they want, and speak where they want.

This kinda reminds me of Betamax/VHS.  Betamax, by Sony, had better tv recording tapes.  but they wouldn't let any other companies use the technology.  VHS was "open source" for manufacturers.  We see who won.

Likewise, IBM let the PC technology out, and let any manufacturer build parts and software aps for it.  Big company Apple held all the technology close.  IBM now sits on 95% of desks in the world.

In the end, the fans will tire of waiting a week to hear a pro BBer speak, and only getting to hear a certain guy onve every 3 months, while a Lee Priest and Rhino and Vinny and Vince Taylor can have their OWN weekly show which will be far more interesting.  The market will close down the IFBB monopoly eventually!

Dan has never struck me as a sell-out.

I hope what 240 is alleging isn't true.

Say it ain't so, Dan, say it ain't so.

Ron - please tell us that you'll never get up control of GetBig to The Man.

Getbig is meant to be a place for everybody - just not too keen on some psoters spewing out everything negative. No - there needs to be a place to discuss topics.

As for Dan, and his radio show, I asked him the questions, read the interview...

Cool. Have the PDI do it. You and OnlyMe can be the co-hosts! Set it up!

Dan is a pretty intelligent guy, and was pretty forthcoming when I emailed him.

Unfortunately, from what I have read, it's about keeping control, and not growing this sport.  It's short-term horizon issues, period.

If the IFBB cared about reaching the biggest audience possible, they'd have Phil Heath doing local radio shows, interviews on various websites, and happy to do interviews with everyone in order to capitalize on the COlo Pro win and increase overall awareness.

Unfortunately, it is not about that- it's about controlling his appearances, limiting his exposure, and retaining dominance in the field.  Pro BBing Weekly, while they retain their own independence, is now serving this agenda, and cannot argue that.

Why do they insist on calling BBers "athletes" and BBing "a sport".

At one point Bob compared the IFBB and PDI to the Masters and the US Open???

Both are part of the PGA Einstein.

There are some similarities between bodybuilding and sport and the use of the terms 'athlete' and 'sport' simply makes for an easier conversation.

Don't take it too seriously, mate.
