about seven years ago I was at the gym and I saw my best friends mom there training and minding her own business. She is about 5 feet tall 110 pounds. She was doing the tricep pushdown/sitting dip machine and these two juiceheads told her to hurry up and that this machine was for the real "bodybuilders". She was polite about it and got up. Since this made me sick I went over and talked to the meatheads about manners, one of him went into his "puffer fish" routine and talked about going outside. I told them I would be more than happy to after I was done training. Not more than 10 minutes later, someone working out told them who I was and they apologized to me and that was that. For two years, these guys kissed my ass(not that I cared). I would have rather seen the meatheads be nice to those who can't defend themselves, i.e. women. Anyway, sorry again for my rants, people like this dude are the fucking bane of my existence.

I wonder if he even realizes that there would be NO gyms if it weren't for the general publics memberships dues? And messing with a guy who is training with his son is just pathetic. The world would be a better place if more fathers spent quality time with their kids. I don't have any children, but I just started teaching my 12 year old nephew Martial arts at my dojo. He is severely overweight, so I think I might start taking him to the gym with me while he's out of school this summer. Totally off topic, but do you guys think he is too young for weight training? He is 5 foot 10, 260 pounds. Please no fat jokes, I love him like a son.

Ummm, he is 12 years old and weighs 260 and you are asking if he is too young to start weight training?

Not trying to be rude, but get him exercising ASAP. Mr.Intenseone has a business which somewhat specializes in kids training. Maybe he could help with detailed advice.

Start him off light, cut the carbs, cardio in the morning on a empty stomach and cardio after he works out at night. Gallon and a half of water a day and youll see a big dif.

not very original dude. My buddy owns the gym I train at and he says its ok for him to work out, but he is a serious meathead and probably thinks its ok for a 3 year old to work out. would light weights be ok? He wouldn't do cardio, I can barely get him to run the mats at my gym.

No, 12 is about right age to start training him.

I've got a niece in a similar situation. She's 11, but I know at the rate she's going, she'll be diabetic by the time she's 13. I've tried to help, but the parents won't do anything about it. Matter of fact, who do you think buys her all the junk she eats? Mom and Dad.

I don't see him enough to monitor his diet. He is set in his ways when it comes to eating and he hates exercise. He plays video games and watches tv constantly. We have tried everything, to no avail. He just seems like he doesn't care about anything. This is the third time he has showed interest in martial arts, he usually quits after a couple workouts. I am hoping it sticks this time, cuz I am sure the kids are cruel to him cuz of his weight and I want him to be happy. Taking him to the gym may be a bit of overkill, I need to take babysteps with him, ya know? I was just wondering if 12 is too young. I worked out at 12, but I was already 5 years into MA training and serious about conditioning.

same situation with me dude. My sister who is single works 60 hours a week and he(nephew) and my niece get shuffled between my dads, my moms and my house. Its hard to be the bad guy and not feed him what he wants, ya know?

I started at 13.. As long as hes not lifting too heavy, dont want to damage his joints. 260 at 12 years old, gotta get the kid motivated some how. I know its a little extreme, but my parents took all that shit away from me when I played nintendo and all that fun stuff too much.
