How exactly can a bodybuilder benefit from powerlifting training routines? And do you have to be fat to suceed in powerlifting?

Maybe you should look into it a little more. the fat guys are usually in the higher weight classes. when i compete in the 220's most of the guys have visible abs and crazy veins.

Powerlifting has added plenty of mass for people who take it seriously. my entire body has made good quality gains from it and i did nothing but bodybuilding the first 6 years i trained.

i suggest you try it and form your own opinion...many people think differently about these "fat" guys who are putting up big numbers.

the fat is due to most heavyweight powerlifters eating absolutely anything they want in mass quantities and not burning many calories during training due to low reps, the squat, bench press and deadlift are great bodybuilding movements but you have to perform them as part of a bodybuilding training program and eating program, if you do that your body will take on a more functional, athletic muscular look.
