Williams, who is playing in the CFL while serving an NFL suspension, underwent surgery late Sunday night to repair a fracture to his left forearm. Williams was hurt in Toronto's 26-23 win in Saskatchewan on Saturday night.
Williams, 29, joined the Argos in May after being suspended for the entire 2006 season by the NFL for a fourth violation of the league's substance abuse policy. Toronto signed Williams to a one-year deal after first getting permission from the Miami Dolphins, to whom Williams remains under contract for two more years.
The injury prompted speculation that the Dolphins would step in and try to have Williams' CFL tenure cut short. But Argos president Keith Pelley said he expects Williams to return to Toronto's lineup this season after sitting out four to six weeks to let the arm heal.
"We're very confident that Ricky will be back, it's just a matter of when," Pelley said. "That decision, however, will be made by Michael (Argos coach Mike Clemons) and his staff.
"I've not spoken to anyone with the Dolphins but their medical people have talked to our medical people about Ricky's injury."
"We're very supportive of Ricky and the season that he is having in Canada," Dolphins coach Nick Saban said in a statement Monday. "Hopefully he will have a speedy recovery, and we feel certain this setback will not affect his future as a football player."
