Flex Magazine's Olympia Odds
« on: August 23, 2006, 11:28:04 AM »
With the Olympia weeks away, Flex Magazine's pre-coverage is in full swing. This month they declared their odds on favourites for the contest. The following are the athletes qualified and their chances of taking the crown:

Top 6

Victor Martinez: 5-1
Gustavo Badell: 4-1
Dexter JAckson: 2-1
Gunter Schlierkamp: 2-1
Jay Cutler: Even
Ronnie Coleman: Even

Top 10

Dennis James: 7-1
Lee "Priest" McCutcheon: 7-1
Branch Warren: 7-1
Troy Alves: 10-1

The Rest

Melvin Anthony: 10-1
Vince Taylor: 10-1
David Henry: 12-1
Mustafa Mohhamad: 12-1
Ronny Rockel: 12-1
Bill Wilmore: 12-1

Personally, I thought Jay's odds were a little high. They obviously put them at "even" to generate more excitement leading up to the contest. I also though Mustafa's odds were a little too low.

Flex is shite - I think I stopped reading that in about 1998 when I finally realised that all bodybuilders take gear!

Actually, the reason Mustafa will never win and consistently gets screwed is that he's a NABBA guy. He competed in the IFBB World Championship and then left for NABBA before switching back to IFBB. They never forget.

Anyone have the issues of 2005, 2004, 2003, etc?

I'd be interested to see if jay's EVEN ODDS are something new, or standard protocol.

I had an issue from 2003 I think, and it had jay and ronnie as odds even.  cormier and gunther were like 3 to one or something.

there is no way they will let Lee do the O. i highly doubt he will ever place in the top three at any IFBB show again.

The person writing this article, and the editor of FLEX, who is responsible for it being published, are persons without any sense of journalistic moral.

The odds are ridiculous - Ronny Rockel to win the Olympia, 12-1?

FLEX magazine has no credibility, and no FCUKING INTEGRITY.

The people working at FLEX should be fcuking ashamed of themselves, working for a publication that knowingly is putting out lies like this.

It's not FLEX's job to add to the excitement by making up fairytales. Journalism is about bringing attention to events, to people and stories. Tell it like it is, good and bad. When did FLEX ever do their journalistic mission?

Not to fcuking make things up. Why don't the collective staff at FLEX get together and write some Novel Bestseller - I heard JK Rowling won't be writing too many more Harry Potter's, gives room for more otherworldy stories. >:(

Imagine some new gym goers who picks up a FLEX. They would think that Ronnie is NOT a shoe-in for winning it, and that guys like Vince Taylor, Mustafa and Dave Henry has a long shot at winning it.

FLEX is POS.

The journalistic integrity requires attempts at unbiased articles.

FLEX aren't doing that. They work as an infomercial for Mr Olympia.

And that's beyond fcuked up.

This article took away the little illusions I had left about FLEX being anything but an unethical, no-integrity piece of shit mag.

Horrible.
