Silly post before yes, I actually met Sonny a couple of times, he was often at bodybuilding events in NZ and guestposing.... Nice guy, very popular and always made time to speak to everyone.

Meet Sonny in 1991 or so at the Grand Opening of Gold's Gym Honolulu. Very big dude. Really nice too. He talked with that Australian accent if I remember right. And I thought it sounded cool coming from a Samoan looking guy

I got his autograph at an expo a few years ago. Seemed friendly, and he was a great BBer.

I think Sonny smoked, had cancer, and chose to just keep plugging away rather than fight it.

kinda admirable... goes to teh question, would you rather live a good life, then fall over dead one day, or would you rather know when you're ill, have a chance at curing it, but also have a good chance at spending rest of your life in a hospital bed with tubes in you.

you guys are both right. We had some health issues in the house lately (baby on way- things get complex) and spent some time in the hospital. it really sucks at hospitals. I honestly think I'd rather spend my life having fun and being happy, then just fall over one day, than spend the last year, worrying all the time, looking at white hospital walls in an uncomfortable hospital bed, waiting to die.

i'd rather spend my inheritance at a brothel, and keel over whenever the good Lord needs me

He had no chance to fight it. From diagnosis to his passing was less than 2 months.

Sonny was samoan and from new zealand. the mix of his people's accent and the NZ accent produce a very very different accent to Australian. kinda like saying that the Canadian and Texan or Southern accent are the same....not even close.

it is english though.

messiah of muscle was one of his best friends.

he got done for importing or trying to import coke with his brother in melbourne as far as i know...

he went to jail for it and got sick in there...

the governement let him out when it was obvious it was terminal and let him die at home with his family.

bbing wise the guy came up VERY fast back in the 80's. One year he was like a novice middleweight then next year he was heavyweight mr australia!... obviously responded well to the gear

I always cringed when he did his front double bicep because he performed it so poorly compared to his lat spreads - he really got his lats out there.
