Franks Zanes abs and overtraining....

Today i had a very interesting thought i dont know if this has been discussed or not. so i was smokin a blunt earlier and that does a damn good job at provoking deep thought and all the while i was reading about frank zanes ab training. tales of him doing situps in the 1000s of reps. seems like obvious overtraining and i thought maybe this had a correlation with his extremely tight waist. is it possible for a person to overtain their abs/obliques to the point to where they shrink?? the question is can you overtain your midsection to point of shrinking ???

how the fuck can you overtrain abs or anything? Do you while at work tell your boss you're done typing cause you dont' want to over train your fingers? Muscles are meant to work.

the crucial factor in developing a trim wasitline is eliminating all intra-abdominal fat.  Developing the abdominal wall and obliques will not expand your waistline

well training breaks down muscle and im wondering if you just keep breakin the shit down it will shrink. making your training detrimental so that your midsection shrinks.

Well Zane and this guy had the smallest midsections.. this guy did 2000+ situps a day.

Then again Flex wouldn't train abs at all until a couple weeks out 2 exercises 3 sets of 30 reps.

Cyclists train their calves 4-7 hours/day  : do they calves disappear ??

Its not a myth at all. you can train the body to the point to where it cant heal itself to its previous state or anything beyond that. . . it just gets weaker.  its called overtraining.

this might sound like im taking the piss but i read about a year back,i think it was in MD that the one and only dave palumbo used puposely try to overtrain his abs,and it didnt work for him :-X
you might be able to overtrain them if your natural(i dont know)but if your juicing im pretty sure it would be extremely difficult to overtrain them and would probably have the opposite effect of what your trying to achieve

i would have to agree,if you place enough stress on a muscle it will adapt.a marathon runners muscles adapt by getting smaller to be more efficient to deal with the task at hand..but they arent bodybuilding and it probably wouldnt be classed as overtraining,just adaptation.i dont think you could target one muscle to get smaller while aiming for all the others to grow like you do in bodybuilding.probably the only way to bring a bodypart down is by not training it at all and hope it atrophies to bring it in line with other bodyparts.there may be a way to overtrain your body (if you could call it that) if your not consuming enough calories but that wouldnt be bodybuilding it would be body wasting

If overtraining makes me look like that, count me in. But i see where you are going with this. Im not so sure u can overtrain abs. But im a fatass who hasnt seen his abs in 7 years so what the fuk do i know

You can overtrain when using resistance loads. Cyclists train for conditioning and performance and rarely use load resistance for training....HUGE difference!!

Serge Nubret trained 6-7 days a week for 3-7 hours a day.
John Grimek,Clancy Ross,Steve Reeves did Full body Routines,working every muscle 3 times a week training time about 3-5 hours.  Sometimes they even upped it to 6-7 days a week when training for a contest.

They all looked great and the Natural ones were as big if not bigger than the naturals of Today.

So again, can you provide me of an instance of a known bodybuilder overtraining?

Don't forget about Arnold's 8 hour a day workout and also Lee Haney was probably doing at least 4.

That was along time ago and even though those were difficult workouts, chances are they did not either know or realize they were overtraining. On the other hand training a bodypart (not the entire body in one workout) can easly recoup within 48hrs provided the nutrition is there to support it. I personally think HIT is crap because it provides too much recoup time in between. Basically overtraining is burning out, your body doesn't respond anymore to training, no pump, fatiqued, joints and muscles constantly ache, hard time sleeping, no drive to train......those are some signs of overtraining. If you think over training is a falicy, work the same bodyparts everyday for about a month and see what happends!
