King, the Montreal show (my take)
« on: September 04, 2006, 08:00:57 AM »
Ok, so a lot of you guys were totally happy with the 11th place King got last week but apparently some of you feel that the judges must have misplaced their glasses this week and for some reason decided to give him a gift.  I have ALWAYS been fair about how I have critiqued King's physique before and have never blown smoke up his ass as far as how he looked for any of his shows.  For some of you people that were at the show who feel you may have got a good look at what's going on, no one was closer to the competitors than the judges, with the exception of myself.  I was back stage for most of the show and got a very close look at all the competitors and I can tell you that King had the best level of conditioning in the whole show.  In fact I am not the only one who feels that way as a couple of the judges even made the same comment.  Flex Wheeler came up to King and me backstage and said that he felt this was the best he looked in years if not ever.  Jonnie Jackson and Darrem Charles both came up to King and complemented him on his improvement.

If some of you guys are going to make a comparison between King and Dennis Wolf, you could at least show a picture where King is hitting the pose and not just getting ready to hit the pose as I noticed in a few of them King is not yet all the way in his pose.  There's no denying that Dennis Wolf is a great bodybuilder--very wide shoulders, small waist, and nice thigh separation.  There are however a couple of things that held him back.  Dennis needs to work more on his lats and his hamstrings and he needs to learn how to hit a front double bicep pose correctly.  He holds his shoulders way too high which makes his lats disappear.  Dennis was very hard but lacked some of the fine detail necessary to place him higher, especially from the rear.  This is what separated Dennis from the higher placings.  Hopefully Isaac can post some close-up pictures of Dennis and King where you can see King's level of conditioning was far above what Dennis brought to the table.  This is the bad thing about posting pictures that are so far away.  It takes away your ability to see the fine striations and graininess of someone's physique.

Overall I think the judges' placings were very good.  Jonnie Jackson had finally come into his own with a great level of conditioning.  Good for him.  Very thick physique, nice lines, and a small waist.  He still needs to bring his thighs up in size and if he does so in the future he will place well at the bigger shows.  Darrem Charles seemed like a pretty nice guy so this is nothing personal but I was shocked at his level of conditioning.  Very deep separation in some parts of his physique but he has lacked the sharpness lately that is a trademark of his physique.  Gone were the striated glutes and separated hamstrings from past shows.  I was very shocked at how smooth he appeared in some parts of his physique.  I thought that Quincy Taylor looked great.  Quincy is a very big man and for such a tall person has a lot of mass.  His level of conditioning was excellent.  He had very thin skin.  Needs to bring up his thighs a little more to keep in the top placings in the future.  I ate breakfast with Quincy on Friday morning and he seems like a pretty good guy and commented that he's ready to do whatever it takes to keep improving.

King Kamali in the last week has made great improvements.  King has plenty of overall size.  In the future we are going to work on bringing up his thigh sweep and continue on improving his arms.  King knows that he needs to train more like a bodybuilder and less like a power lifter to make these improvements to his physique.  In the six days that I worked with King (not counting the day of the show), I was able to greatly reduce the size of his waist and as you can tell by the pictures his stomach was a lot flatter in most of the poses.  King clearly had the best glutes and hamstrings in the show and the separation and striations that he displayed in his back, especially his lower back, were the best in the show.  King already had a low level of body fat when I started to work with him.  It was just a matter of nailing the conditioning to bring out the potential that was already there.

On a final note, for some of you who think that King is not well liked or is disrespectful to his fans, you could not be more wrong.  When we got to the prejudging, from the moment we stepped out of the car, King graciously stopped for every fan and talked and took time to get his picture taken with everyone outside the venue.  This actually made King a little late for the prejudging as I was scrambling to put oil on him at the last minute before he was called to go out on stage.  After the show, King went up to one of the vendors and asked if he could use their table space for signing autographs for the fans.  For 45 minutes King signed probably close to 100 autographs and got pictures taken with fans.  King had a stack of 8 by 10 glossy photos that he was signing for the fans.  I was shocked when I realized he was handing these photos out for free.  He also handed out at least a dozen DVDs to various fans.  King did all of this for the fans for free at a time when he was extremely hungry and exhausted and could have been at a restaurant eating like the rest of the competitors.  No one knows how hungry King was better than I as I heard him say that he was starving more times than I care to remember and I almost put earplugs in ;D

So this is my take on the show.  This is coming from someone who was up close and personal with every competitor there.  Everyone has their opinion and this is mine.

what.

King almost always says that the crowd, Steve Weinberger, Chad Nicholls, etc. that the crowd had him highly placed after each of his dismal showings.  Why can't we do the same to him?

thanks for the insight, Disgusted. It's too bad King doesn't carry himself with fans online the way he does with them in person.

Basically an essay on backslapping.  Irregardless of what I think of King (and I'm sure he is a good guy to his fans) the pictures don't lie.  Wolf was better.  End of story.

People like you are a destructive influence on Kamali in that you don't give him the real deal.  Its that type of "friendly input" that has led to him embarrassing himself on a number of occasions.

It appeared that it was a good show as the top 5 really looked like they were battling it out . Johhny Jackson (by the pics) looked awesome and nailed his first pro victory. 8) He will be a force real soon  for top spots in bigger shows. What i don't get is why people are upset that Kamali did well? People seem as though they're taking it personal.    ??? ???

Disgusted,

I already posted plenty of comparison photos here on getbig. I didn't take the photos and I didn't re-touch the photos. THE PHOTOS DO NOT LIE. Why would we take your word for it? Who are you? An unbiased observer???

In my opinion the people closest to Kamali are the least trustworthy here.  Even more so than those who hate the guys guts.  Where as there is always a shred of truth even in the naysayers opinions, the friends of Kamali are always bullshitting  him into believing things that just aren't true.  You see it every time he posts on his site about a contest.  Apparently everbody told him he was great, every contest.

Its a joke.  I don't hate the guy but he didn't deserve to beat Wolf and with his midsection so bad I support his 11th placing last week too.

Let me ask this, from the photo's Brian Chamberlain looked pretty damn good and seemed to have some decent callouts, did he get overlooked?

I love how these apologists always come on and tell us how we just don't understand. You have to be there to be able to form a real opinion. The pictures aren't accurate. What bullshit. Anyone with eyes can clearly see that Wolf is superior. It's not even close. And talking about detail, give me a freaking break, Tamali has absolutely no detail anywhere in his arms, chest, delts, legs. Tamali was given a gift, plain and simple. Don't come on here and tell us we don't know what's going on. This result is a complete joke and we all know it. Don't make it worse by insulting us too.

Disgusted, with all due respect, you're hardly an objective, impartial outside observer.  ::)  King's your friend, and you put a lot of time into helping him prep for the show.  You deserve a lot of credit for bringing his conditioning in better that it has been in years, but even you can't fix his horrible structure, or reverse the gh and slin-induced Palumboism.

Botton line: King looked far better than he did a week ago, but there's no way in hell he beats Denis Wolf. He should have been 5th or 6th.

Damn bro, I think using the word "destructive" is exaggerating just a tad bit.  BTW I think you mean "regardless"  ;).

Hahahahahahaha Oh brother, I bet you are the kind of guy who walks into an asian restaurant which has a musclebear waiter and when he comes over to take your order, you say with a giggle, "Oh yes you big asian stud, I mean waiter, can I please have my favourite dish 'Cum of some young guy' please? I'm happy to 'extract' it myself" and shake your lower jaw after grabbing it with your hand. Hahahahahahaha gayer than Proctology.

I know you are alone.
When I was at your age, I was surrounded by both girls and gays.
Yet I dont discriminate them and I am not scared at gay. And i am married to a woman. You have more risk to be a gay than me. Because you are young. Walk around the world kids.

A serious question to some of you who think that Wolf should have beaten King: Who else do you think Wolf should have beaten?  Personally I would not have a problem with him beating Darrem.  I feel that Dennis's conditioning was better than Darrem's.  Darrem was way off form and I talked to a guy this morning who trains at the same gym as Darrem and is very familiar with his physique.  He thought his conditioning was terrible (his words).

King clearly had the best glutes and hamstrings in the show and the separation and striations that he displayed in his back, especially his lower back, were the best in the show
this is the part ive got trouble with, his lower back is as distended as his abs.dont take this as a personal attack it is a subjective sport after all.youve got to see this deformity havent you disgusted?

Bro I DO NOT take this as a personal attack and I am not trying to be a dick, but what the hell do you mean by a distended lower back?  Are you saying that he has tumors growing on his lower spine?  Or that his kidneys are extremely inflamed?  If you could see his lower back up close and personal, you would see how extemely thick and striated it is from doing heavy deadlifts.  His lower back does look different for this reason.
