am i the only one? i love all kinds, regular, chocolate, strawberry, 2 percent, whole, great stuff.
-
I used to drink lots of strawberry, but too much makes me sick to my stomach
I still drink milk though.
-
no milk when you grow up your supposed to drink BEER!

most underrated food for a bodybuilder, awesome for bones too.
-
I love the 1% milk! And now Costco carries a 3-pack of organic, 1% milk with a long shelf life. But my husband doesn't trust it or something, and won't really drink it, so I'll have to go with the regular stuff. My college roommate used to mix full-fat Nestle chocolate milk with CoCo Puffs and eat it for dinner. It looked kind of foul. My mom never let me have the junk cereal. She was a meanie.
-
I'll have some every now and then. But then again, I don't really trust the Kuwati Danish Dairy hahaha their shit is probably rife with disease.
-

Human milk is the ultimate growth supplement.
Do you know how dramatically an infant grows in size?
It's obtaining a steady supply that's a bitch.

I am lactose intolerant....so milk makes me shit my pants.
My options are to either buy lactose free milk or use the lactase tablets, but even with those I still get some discomfort.
Overall, I love milk in my shake (2 cup milk, 1 cup oatmeal, 2 tbsp PB, 2 scoop ON), but I just can't afford $3 for 1/2 gallon of milk.

$3 for a half gallon??? Where do you live? In some place where cows are rare? I'm on Long Island and a half gallon is, oh, about $1.60 or so.
-
Probably Aldi's.
-
i just paid 3 bucks for a gallon at Schnuck's yesterday.
-
where on earth are you paying that? i live in the same city you do and i don't pay anywhere near that.
I live in Salt Lake City - which is not particularly expensive for a city of its size. A half-gallon of organic goes for around $3.00.
-

It's $3 for 1/2 gallon of lactose free Milk. Mind you, this is at wal-mart it is $3...go to Schnucks or Dierbergs and it's $4+ ::)
Regular milk is $2 for a gallon.

oh ok you're talking about organic, fucck that shit, just buy the good stuff.
-
i just paid 3 bucks for a gallon at Schnuck's yesterday.
Schnuk's is a fucking rip-off. Hopefully, they go out of business.
I would rather shop at the wal-mart supercenter with my shirt off.
-

Oh, organic, okay. My bad. Yeah, I won't even buy organic in the supermarket. It can cost like $4.50 a half gallon in the supermarkets. That's why Costco was so great - 3 half gallon 1% organic milk containers for about $8 - that's the best deal I've seen so far. I just get the regular Tucson and hope my DNA doesn't get warped. I'm trying to slowly go organic - buying organic stuff as I use up my old stuff. Depends on my budget. It's like, do I want the regular broccoli for $1.49 or the organic broccoli for $4. Anyway, I'll be planting my garden soon enough and be eating my own veggies for a while.
-
I only drink 1% or 2% but I can easily drink a 1/2 gal. at a time if it is cold. I too love strawberry.
-
2 pints every day with my whey.

hahahahaha, i like Shnucks but you're right Wal Mart supercenter or Sams is the best prices, i love Schnucks beef though.
-
yeah milk is great....... hmmmmmmmm chocolate milk :)
-
I drink 2-3 cups a day when bulking. 1 or less when cutting
-
Nothing better than an ice-cold glass of whole milk. :)
-
i remember reading that Mike Matarazzo used to drink a couple of gallons a day of whole milk when he was younger.
-
Oh, organic, okay. My bad. Yeah, I won't even buy organic in the supermarket. It can cost like $4.50 a half gallon in the supermarkets.
I feel ya.
But at some point I made the mental leap to understanding that this is what real milk costs. What the huge dairy conglomerates are basically doing is subsidizing part of that cost in exchange for you consuming their antibiotics, growth hormones, and god knows what other chemical hellbrew. That's not my idea of a smart trade. :)
So, like any other thing that's good but pricey, I enjoy organic to the extent I can afford.
-
I only drink milk from the tap.
This is my current tap. light Chocolate milk and loving it.
PM me for the full sequence.... my cock is in a couple of frames but I'll black it out.

Why bother with 1% when you are already as big fat ass. Go for whole.... no better yet drink pure cream.

Sure do. let's see...

no milk when you grow up your supposed to drink BEER!
Epic plagerism from Pumpin Iron.
I drink at least a 1/2 gallon or a gallon a day. All the premate protein drinks are casien protein. Wake up, that means milk. "I was fooled too" until 10 yrs ago.
Milk is fantastic for protein, and tastes great. Mostly 1% or skim I drink. Everynight with dinner for sure, 2 big glasses. And my physique shows it too.
-
Sure do. let's see...
damn, thick all over, awesome body on this one, where'd you meet her?
-
I drink milk daily, I prefer skim chocolate....

Milk sucks....you might as well just drink sugar water. To quote the Great One Arnold..."Milk is for babies"
-

Don't be angry Buttsuck, not everyone has a taste for man-milk like you do. Don't hate yourself.
-
I drink about a litre a day
-
Milk is the shizznit !
can wait to drink it again
off-season I drink half a gallon daily
-
I'm slightly lactose intolerant, therefore I only drink skim milk in moderation. Too much milk and unpleasant things happen. :(
-

Dude, Arnold was the king of misinformation. He was drinking whole milk by the gallons
-
I eat skim milk powder 6 tablespoons at a time and wash it down with liquid creatine, but that's 'cause I'm waaaay hardcore.

Why dry skim milk and not real bottled?
-
Milk sucks. About the only thing it's good for is making whey protein.
-

It's easier to carry in my fanny pack.

I drink milk, even though Arnie said "milk is for babies."

-
You can't beat a glass of cold milk.
Not a fan of chocolate milk, if I want the taste of chocolate, I'll eat chocolate but strawberry Nesquick is ok.
-
I drink shitloads of milk.
Easy protein and calories.
Cheap as hell too.
-
most underrated food for a bodybuilder, awesome for bones too.
Milk has ZERO effect on bone strength due to the fact the calcium is only absorbed in an ACID medium. Milk creates a BASIC medium.
Hope that helps.

When trying to put on weight, I can go through a gallon a day. I LOVE whole milk.

Calcium is ONLY absorbed in an ACID medium. Using a BASIC solution to absord calcium is slightly comical.
Remember all the commercials telling the masses to take TUMS for it's calcium? Well, smart guy......they pulled the plug on that B.S. because Tums creates a BASIC solution in the gut, thus not allowing for calcium absortion.
It's best for YOU to talk "Dumb"ells. Your completely out of YOUR league here.
Hope this helps.

Three to four gallons a week, skim milk, $1.89 a gallon at costco. All that BS about sugar is such a crock of shit. The only reason you would worry about that is if you are competing and we all know 99% of everyone on here is not shooting for the stage.

the first bodybuilder I ever saw was at a campground when I was about 12 years old and he used to walk around everywhere with a gallon of milk, and he was constantly drinking it. This guy was jacked and had very low bodyfat.
I believe milk is great for putting on weight if you are a hardgainer, but should be avoided by those needing to lose weight like myself and I love milk. Plus sometimes it doesn't agree with me.

Sounds like this BB I used to know named Mike Hamilton. I was about 12 or 13 he had to be about 20 or 21. He was jakked even by todays National Standrad he could hang with the best of them. He was ALWAYS seen holding a 24oz of Dean's Chug-A-Lug.
Here's something to make Lord Sf hungry...
Giant glass of whole milk w/ 2-3 slices of pumpkin pie with a little whip cream on top and about 50 nilla wafers on the side.
Possibly better than pussy!

haha, you still dieting?
-
casein was found to be the only protein that was anti-catabolic and prevent muscle breakdown. Whole body protein brakedown was inhibited 34% after casein ingestion but not after whey protein, whey protein produced a dramatic but short increase in plasma amino acids. Casein produced a prolonged plateau of increased plasma amino acids, thus producing the best nitrogen retention and utilization. Before drinking milk take a digestive enzyme and take on other digestive enzyme after, same with the cheese. Milk and cheese contains casein
and sum whey, whey is bed for you can cause acid reflex.
NO WHEY IS THE WAY TO GO.
-
haha, you still dieting?
Yes, Sir! Can't you tell? Tomorrow is my shceduled 'cheat meal' so I don't know WHAT the fk to get or have.
Maybe sushi and ice cream. Maybe 2 double cheeseburgers w/ fries and apple pie from McDonalds.
No...maybe a giant stack of pancakes w/ sausage and bacon w/ scrambled eggs.
Wait...maybe I'll go to Hooters. No. I know...I got it. No nevermind that won't work...I want White Castles. Hmmm. That or lots of garlic bread.
Fuck. See? It's like this every Sunday. ;)

Milk is the Great American Myth.
Does a body good...
Its a poor source of calcium (believe it or not), it wont do a god damn thing for building strong bones lol. You are better off eating some spinach leaves. It causes digestion and allergy issues, and there are MUCH better sources of protein than drinking large amounts of milk (which does odd things in your system I might add). To sum things up, humans are not meant to consume milk past infancy. The enzymes needed to digest it properly are gone once we grow older. Arnie was right, milk is for babies. I just laugh when I see some of you mindless sheep make posts like "milk is great, i drink a half gallon a day!" lol thats so disgusting.
Most of the shit about it being so great for you is marketing. Calorie for calorie, vegetables are better sources of calcium than milk and cheese. Dont get me wrong, its not evil. It wont hurt you in small amounts. I think low-fat yogurt is a fantastic addition to the diet. Milk is just severely over hyped. I have some skim with cereal and occasionally a small amount in a shake. Otherwise I avoid chugging large glasses of it. Btw, a key to actually utilizing dietary calcium is upping your D3 intake. Most people are deficient. Take at least 1000ui a day. Doc's are now starting to recommend this and its becoming mainstream.
....and all you fucking dolts gulped it right down! good to the last drop!

Cornell-trained nutritionist Amy Joy Lanou, Ph.D., and co-authors show that dairy products do not promote bone health in children and young adults. Physical activity does have a positive impact on bone health, while evidence linking bone health with dairy product consumption is weak, at best.
The level of dairy product consumption in the United States is among the highest in the world, and yet osteoporosis and fracture rates are also among the highest.
Elderly South African Bantu women don't have osteoporosis, despite having a large calcium drain from nursing an average of 10 children. Their diet contains only about 440 mg of calcium, less than half what Americans consume. It appears they are protected by their low intake of protein (50 g daily, compared with 91 g by Americans). Eskimos, on the other hand, who consume a very high protein diet (250 - 400 g) and far more calcium than Americans (2,000 mg daily), have the highest rate of osteoporosis in the world.

I drink about a gallon of skim milk every day and a half or so. That is all I drink when I eat.
-
I can only imagine what the guys who say they drink 1/2 gallon a day look like. If you like the bloated, skin thick as Bologna look then drink up.
I quite drinking milk a year ago and have found I feel much better actually quite amazing how much it has helped. Will once and a while have a piece of cheese on burgers though, but have found avacodos a great replacement for the cheese on them.

What is it with the thick skin thing? seriously? I have heard that before and you are right...even when I have low bodyfat I do seem to have thick skin without a lot of vascularity.I also eat a lot of low fat cottage cheese.

Thanks for the links, Enigma. They discuss calcium leaching from a high protein diet. They do not, however, make mention of calcium absorption in acidic and basic media, which was your original assertion.
Milk has ZERO effect on bone strength due to the fact the calcium is only absorbed in an ACID medium. Milk creates a BASIC medium.
Do you have any links to articles which discuss the Ph of the gut, it's effect on calcium absorption from milk, and the Ph level created in the stomach from milk?
From one of your articles - I always get a kick out of it when they bring up...ahem... the eskimos. ::)
"Eskimos, on the other hand, who consume a very high protein diet (250 - 400 g) and far more calcium than Americans (2,000 mg daily), have the highest rate of osteoporosis in the world."
Clearly, the Inuit should quit dairy farming and return to seal hunting, since all that milk they drink isn't doing any good. ;D
-
In theory, the Enigma is correct in his assertion that calcium must be ionized at a low pH to be absorbed. Antacids can reduce calcium absorbtion, but not necessarily eliminate it. The ionized calcium exists in an equilibrium, and a certain % will still be ionized.
In practice, calcium from milk has high bioavailability. Even achlorhydic patients (they don't produce stomach acid) seem to absorb calcium from skim milk the same as normal gastric pH control subjects. (Recker RR. Calcium absorption and achlorhydria. N Engl J Med 1985;313:70.) The theory is that milk peptides may have a solubilizing effect less pH-dependent.
There is a growing body of evidence and research that suggests a protein found in cow's milk (bovine serum albumin) may illicit an autoimmune reaction in humans that maybe a contributing factor to Type 1 Diabetes and Asthma. I don't want to say there is a "conspiracy theory" going on here, but the diary industry is a multi-billion dollar industry and they go to great lengths to persuade/market their products just as the supplement industry..."milk does a body good right"? :P
-
I agree I too love milk, sometimes too much. I used to drink a gallon a day, and I know the boys in Arnold's day (most of the Venice Beach "crew) used to drink upwards of 2 gallons a day. I do know though that Ted Arcidi got major complications from drinking milk and had massive amounts of calcium deposits removed from his joints, like pounds worth.
Anyways, milk will always be one of my favorites.
-
l love it, but don't drink enough of it! :(
-
Wow, huge topic for the nutrition board! Loads of responses. Guess that shows how controversial milk is. I think milk is great stuff, loads of people are intolerant of it. IMO if you're even slightly intolerant of milk its not an option, if you're not its good stuff, within limits obviously. Everything is a poison depending on the dose ;)

OJ is a much better choice than milk, for higher % absorbtion of calcium.

Only if it's fortified. Tha amount of calcium in OJ is less than that of milk, and OJ does not contain vitamin D. If you can recall, vitamin D is required for the active transport of calcium across enterocytes on the luminal side. There was a study (albeit not perfect study) that showed absorbtion was identical between fortified OJ, skim milk, and calcium carbonate tabs. If you really want I'll try to dig it up for you.

Wow!
You can post it up if you want, but I only wanted Enigma to go digging because he was giving me such a hard time. ;D
Good stuff that I never knew before in this thread.

If you drink commercial milk, organic or not, it's still garbage. Once you pasteurize it, it's just sugar water basically. They put yelllow dye into it to keep it white because after it's been " cooked", it's a dark grey color...f#cking yummy!!!!! Plus all the vitamins and minerals have been killed....save your money!!!
Stay away from milk unless it's raw.....

Here is the study that shows equal absorbtion between fortified OJ, skim milk, and calcium carbonate tabs. The study suffers from the same drawbacks as all nutrition and sports med type studies (i.e small sample size, limited controls, short time horizion...etc etc...)

The one I posted earlier from NEJM has far more significance because it challenges the conventional wisdom that calcium must ionized to be absorbed.
Cheers ;)

Correct, I was referring to fortified. I should have been specific in that matter.

what about breast milk? I drank some of that by accident once .
