i almost seriously injured myself while squatting cause my spotter (who i picked cause he ws also training legs) ws staring out at the lake outside the gym window while i ws squatting..<chantilly VA golds>
i pretty much half squatted ..half good morninged out of the hole..
my left lower ab hurt bad after but feels fine now..we'll see how sore my lower back is tomorrow..
i didn't even finish ..i just grabbed my keys and slow walked out of the gym pissed off.. >:(

That sucks. I've had several injuries from crappy spotters.
Now if I ever need a spotter, I make sure I grab someone I recognize, or at least look like they know what they are doing.

anyhow..friday.. and once i hit 275 for 10..i'll ask for yours..
and the 405 by end on june is also still on :)

i've been pushing legs hard ( 3times/week..high freq low vol)..despite my blabbing on here (cause i trust my legs and muscle mem) i actually only started re training legs 3 weeks ago ;D i'll do it though.. :)

rack..that ya kinda walk out of..my spotter had the cage..he ws doing these partials in em..and i didn't wanna be bothered with loading and unloading his weight..he had 355 on.. :-\

never blown a shoulder..but wayy back when i actually has some size..i severly strained mine trying 225 seated barbell for 4 reps..
(side note..my bench wasn't much more about 225 :-\..yeah i looked funny..big legs calves..big shoulders ..thick back with no width..and no chest or arms :-\..)
i could get 185 easy but 225 buried me on rep 1..my right shoulder still clicks..and this happened 7ish yrs ago..

It dawned on me a long time that if I needed a spotter I am probably doing something wrong.
yes, yes, I don't go to total failure..I just do one more set

lesson to take away from this experience: trust catch bars and a rack over some stranger.
i never ask a some random person for a spot on squats. i use the rack and dump the weight if i have to.

every guy in the gym "over lifts"! they get maybe 2 shaky reps in and then spotter does the rest of the work...typical monday night (chest day) at most gyms.
every fucking guy loads up the bar with their max weight, barely bends their knees 3 or 4 times, this is what passes for a set of squat these days.
Vince Basille once wrote that he say Surge train chest. He said that he never went over 2 plates, he just did set after set after set for a very long time...no need for a spotter..no ego lifting

my reps are textbook shoulder width or slightly shorter than shoulder width (depending how strong i feel) reps..no belt (till i hit 275) ass to the floor on every rep back tight, reps..

lol..fuck no..i did the bulgarian training platz and leo costa junior were promoting(94..95??) and that had me do a weight (275 back then) i could handle for 12 to 15 reps..with 30 seconds of rest between sets for 6 sets..i could only keep up with that shit for like a few months..
my college grades started to drop and i always felt i ws gonna blow my hearr cause i had to take like a 100 mgs of eph plus a cup of coffee before i did that..and after i'd always shake so bad and crash so hard..
never again man..fuck no >:(

fuck no man..i remember lying in the college locker rooms after those workouts with a wet towel over my face honestly thinking that i'd messed up my body in some way perm ..and for real...
actually it ws around the same time that every fucking leg day with my partner rob became a torture session..100 rep leg presses with 600 lbs on the thing..i never went for more than 30 quick ones in a go..but we'd rest pause the rest..which eventually led me to quitting training altogether..i started fearing and hating going to the gym..everytime i'd go i'd end up with a fever or heart palpitations or something..i've realized..such workout once in a blue moon are fun to brag about..but mentally ..nahh..maybe i'm a puss..never again..

I hate those fvckers, its happened to me 2-3 times already on the Squat. Being strength oriented it pisses me off even more cuz the fvcker destroyes a PR attempt that I will have to wait another week to do over! I get insanely pissed when that happens. Why'd u remind me >:(

um, because it's a good idea to push your limits. without a spotter you'll stop early. i always get a spotter when i get to my heavier sets.
besides, sometimes things go wrong. a few weeks ago i had 385 on my shoulders and stepped wrong, nearly fell over but my spotter helped keep me upright.
in other news, i'm glad you'll be putting up the video of 225x10 and all, but... gah. for an ex-powerlifting juicer, 225x10 should be a shoulder press, not a squat. :-\

what do you guys think of the front-squat. i think its better for the lower-back. reglar squads put too much tension on the back, on frontsquads your back is vertical all the time. i already eliminated deadlift, because of a lowerback injury. some excersisesarejust not worth it. you just have one back in life.

sting ray..excellent device..used it once..not much for a fan of front squats..i prefer machine hacks with my toes raised so i have the weight on my heels..you'll hit the meat of your muscle everytime that way..

i experienced that a spotter is just good for the last rep, on failure. i dont think one rep is gonna make a big difference.

yes i just started doing hacksquads 2 weeks, and i already got new visible cuts and mass on my outher quads, its great. i also put my feet real high otherwise my knees hurt.
i put em midway with my toes raised..you can put something under your toes if ya want..and if you do you'll actually feel a contraction in your lateralis independent of the rest of the quad..orr it'll be much harder in your lateralis than the rest of your quad...
of course have your toes out<ish> and bring your knees together in a sizzor like motion..
of course..you cant use much weight when you r targeting like this..

a few months ago i asked one of the "personal trainers" to watch me on my last set of squats, this guy is actually one of the cooler more knowledgeable guys there so i figured that he knew how to spot, i took the weight out steeped back with my right foot and then with my left and i fuccking stepped on this clowns foot with my left foot, i'm lucky i didn't fall.

personally I that people should use the smith machine for squatting, it allows you to get a much deeper bend and also crank out more reps

I always use the smith machine, mainly as the gym i use doesn't have a squat rack or even stands you could use for squatting :'(

i almost seriously injured myself while squatting cause my spotter (who i picked cause he ws also training legs) ws staring out at the lake outside the gym window while i ws squatting..<chantilly VA golds>
i pretty much half squatted ..half good morninged out of the hole..
my left lower ab hurt bad after but feels fine now..we'll see how sore my lower back is tomorrow..
i didn't even finish ..i just grabbed my keys and slow walked out of the gym pissed off.. >:(
Rule of thoumb:
Never ask someone to spot you if they don't have anything to show for it. At least if they look like bbdr's, chances are they are experienced and they can spot you. Live and learn, bro.

dont ya think i knew this when i ws purposely getting myself into this..my upper body is suffering though..i do a light all upper body when and if i can get it in..soo i'll still look like a pencil neck above the waist.. :-\
good news though..although yesterday i felt the twinge in my left lower ab only my exterior obliques are sore ???
and i ckecked in the mirror..one side dosen't buldge more than the other..lower back although sorish is ok..soo tonite its hacks and leg presses and light calves :)

Yeah, even after Milos' killer leg workout I'm not sore (the more I say that, the more nervious I get for our next leg workout cuz I just know he's gonna murder me and humble me). I love doing legs. It's my favorite body part.
But I won't do 405 any time soon. Sorry PF!, I'll stick to what makes my physique grow, not my ego.

my gym is mostly guys...soo no ego training..
anyhow..i'm all for quality of contraction...i've been preaching this on getbig even when i wasn't training..but some take it too far..
there needs to be a balance between the 2..ie progressive resistance and progressive quality of contraction..
ie a balance between how heavy ya go and how effeciently you can train the muscle with a given weight (of course the latter being easier with relatively light weight)
once one gets used to using heavier weights..... 4 months later the same heavy weights can be used as your squeeze weights..

When I can't do full reps on my own I do partial and negatives. Of course you don't really need a spotter for that. Haven't used a spotter in over 10 years. You know exactly how much you can do on your own WITHOUT a spotter and with the decline in the popularity of bodybuilding fewer people train hardcore and know what the hell they're doing. I'm gonna trust some jagg off who's talking on his cell to spot me while Ive got 400+ pounds on the bench? Pass. Also it's annoying to have people ASK you to spot them and I'd rather not feel obligated to return the favor. I'll get a few more reps with a lighter weight on my own, thanks :)
