*note-ladies feel free to start a log here. This board is heavily moderated.
Yesterday I started training again. My primary focus is weight loss right now.
I did 40 minutes on the treadmill yesterday. Thighs felt a little sore today. I went to the gym hoping to do a longer session, but instead did exactly what I think I shouldn't do...which is start on the treadmill at a fast (for me) pace. Thighs sore and sore and sore, stopped after 20 minutes
Back home to eat a small steak with Jack's steak sause. No bread, no cheeze, aw. ZMA supps a hour or two later.
-
Just yesterday you started? I thought you were keeping updates on the X Board for a while.
Keep up the good work. What's your diet looking like all day long?

No running on those treadmills - crank up the incline and walk at a good pace...

your primary goal is weight loss...............yet you ate a steak with steak sauce?!?!??!??!!?!??!
limit your red meat to once a week (no sauce!)
let me know when your ready to get serious with your diet!
-
I ate a teeny steak with jack daniel's steak sause...I ate three eggs too that night...why cause my thighs hurt and I knew I had to slam some protein'
I ate a powerbar today, my Animal multipak with a small grape juice, and have been munching on trail mix. That's not a lot of food
plus I did an hour on the treadmill. I just try to get my heartrate in the target fatburn zone, so how fast or how slow I go isn't important
That steak was five oz tops, tops I say
-
More veggies, less sugars and simple carbs, more protein!

Your food choices are all wrong!!!!.........jack daniels steak sauce = too much sugar/sodium
powerbar = "glorified candy bar" sugar/carbs too much crap in it
grape juice = sugar
trail mix= sugar/carbs
all you "foods" are junk foods

Isn't Medford obese? All she has do is cut calories, and she will lose fat. No need to make the diet difficult, she's not a bodybuilder.
If the diet is difficult she will give up, like 90% of all people who want to get in shape eventually do.
-
*edit* I removed the post. No baiting and flaming here. Thanks. Medford
What did I tell you before, if you want to flame me take it to the gossip forum. This is not the forum to bait and flame others.
-
ya ha ha
that's right all I'm doing is cutting calories
the grape juice is sugar...it's supposed to be. I have low blood sugar and I bottom out in the mornings
the powerbar is to avoid restaurant food...I'm not bodybuilding, I'm doing an hour of cardio and nibbling all day long. Plus my ECA stack. I'm trying to be a non obese person. I've got enough muscle for now. I need to strip off a lot of fat. So far it's working, since my diet was so horrible before and I didn't work out consistantly.
Initial fat weight =X
starting weight on the diet is X+5 lbs today (lowest weight in years was X-17 lbs)
Weight today was X-2 lbs. So I'm down 7 lbs in a month and a half.
:)

Dont weigh yourself too often, it will mess with your head at this point. Once a week weighings should be good for now, let how your clothes are fitting you tell the story.
You might not be BB but that would be a good way for you to eat to lose fat IMO High protien, moderate fat and low carbs should work well. Keep at the cardio hit the iron at least 3 times a week and you will get there. Thats if you really want to, once the results start coming it will snoball for you
Keep up the good work! :)

Nothing wrong with eating fast carbs post workout.
And nothing wrong with some sodium either, it helps the body retain water. Just make sure to get other electrolytes, such as potassium while at it. Magnesium too.
Red meat is good, Medford just needs to up her veggie intake, cut out all her refined carbs (if she's eating shit like French Fries and Pizza, that has to go).
And replace it with whole grain products.
And, veggies.
Then she will be good to go.
Red meat, fat fish, fish, low fat ham and poultry, that's just good food.
Getting diversity in the diet is something many bodybuilders miss out on.
-
ya ha ha
that's right all I'm doing is cutting calories
That's good.
the grape juice is sugar...it's supposed to be. I have low blood sugar and I bottom out in the mornings
If you drink grape juice, the blood sugar will go up very fast, and then go down again. The blood sugar will activate fat storage, and you don't want that. :-\
Solution:
You need low glycemic carbs such as oatmeal porridge, whole grain bread et al.
Eat whole grain bread.
the powerbar is to avoid restaurant food...I'm not bodybuilding, I'm doing an hour of cardio and nibbling all day long.
Make sure the powerbar has no sugar.
Plus my ECA stack. I'm trying to be a non obese person. I've got enough muscle for now. I need to strip off a lot of fat. So far it's working, since my diet was so horrible before and I didn't work out consistantly.
Don't try. Just do.

Good luck, and see you in about 40 lbs.

Alot of good info in here already Medford, this should motivate you. Keep up the good work!!
:)

Aside from weighttraining 3x per week I'm thinking about doing a spinning class. It's spinning on heart rate, not primarily for condition. For fat loss it might be good.
-
well I went to the gym today and did an hour on the treadmill. I was kinda sweaty, it was good. again, just monitering heartrate to stay in the fat burning zone
I take the grape juice about 5 oz and 1 to 2 oz of pomegrade juice with my animal pak in the morning and I nibble on nuts and trail mix. Dose the ECA once or twice a day. I don't think less than 8 oz of juice is a bad thing. Bear with me people. I know some of you are scratching your heads saying WTF but as long as what I'm doing works it is all good
I am not weight training. Time is a factor, and I'd rather do an hour of cardio a day than anything else.
I weigh myself CONSTANTLY. It keeps me "in the zone" and anything less than weight X is encouraging. Remember I was as high as X plus ten or more pounds at one point
A lot of it is mental. If anyone is into heady reading, pick up Aneorexia as a Metaphor for Our Times by the same chick that wrote Fat is a Femenist Issue. It goes into detail about historical cultural expectations on women's size through the times. Good stuff. Gives insight into our culture and women's issues.

Stop "nibbling all day long",eat every 3-4 hours (fish and rice, chicken and rice etc)
cut out the rice and replace with green fiborous carbs last 2 meals of the day ,brocoli, cauliflower etc, give yourself 2 cheat meals per week (meals not cheat days!),you will lose fat and retain muscle
it's not easy...............if it was everyone would be in great shape!

Actually,,,,don't listen to the above,,you can still nibble, but use smarter choices. Your not a bodybuilder like Laura Lee, so you dont want to eat all your meals fish and rice and chicken and rice. Try instead of snacking on celery with lowfat peanut butter, and other smart snacks,,you still incorporate a few meals of chicken and rice, but eating every 3 hours those meals is plain wrong. You will drift from the diet, you need to keep it interesting. Almonds are good for snacking in moderation. Lettuce is good to snack on. Sugar free pudding for a sweet tooth. Don't listen to Arvilla, he can't even get his diet down ..lol..good luck Medford.

Thats Proof? You are over 6 feet tall but look more aneroxic than kate Moss. You dont know a thing about bodybuilding, Tiny. Your color is awful. You want Medford to look like that. You are seriously one of the most delusional people I have ever seen. Your like 50 years old, why dont you do something except argue on a message board. Medford, dont follow his advice. His diet advice is not a smart diet for you. It is not made for you. You need someone to evaluate you before just throwing out advice like Arvilla. Arvilla isnt that bright, remember that.

I think Mikes advice on this matter is good. Not sure whats up between you 2 guys but his advice to Medford was good. Have to admitt when i heard med say she was "nibbling all day" I was concerned also, WTF does that mean.
Sorry but Medford is doomed from the way she is responding in this thread. I predict it will NOt happen for her. She is not ready to lose the weight yet.
-
Medford is ready, but she can't do a diet mainly for bodybuilders. She needs some "snacking" or nibbling otherwise she wont stick by it. No offense Luv2 Hurt, but your a bodybuilder like Laura, that diet is not going to help Medford. She needs something that she can stick by. it needs to be interesting for her. Fish and chicken day in and out is not the right diet all the time for someone like that. A bodybuilder yes, not medford.
-
This is the type of diet Meddie should be following. It doesn't have to be a BB diet, but it should not be a sugary drink and trail mix diet either. :)

I disagree big time. There are many ways to lose weight, but that doesn't mean all of them are "right."
She can eat a high protein diet, without all the carbs and not be hungry all day...she does not have to feel the need to "nibble." The key is not starving yourself by eliminating all fats from the diet, then there is no need for things like grapejuice or "nibbling."
Prime examples, of the people I advise and train, the majority of them are middle aged women, and the ones that actually lose the weight are the ones who eat the way people are advising Medford on here.
My favorite example, my mother. She has been eating like this now for 3months, and has lost 35lbs. She never feels hungry, unless she goes to long without eating one of her meals...which never happens anymore because she figured out that this was a bad thing. She still needs to lose about 20 more lbs and I'm trying to help her understand that she needs to get into the gym to make this happen, and she will, but so far she's lost the weight without it, so this type of diet does work...and it works well...mom is looking and feeling fantastic!
I will admit this, a lot of these women are very hesitant to diet like this, butcause on paper it looks miserable...but that's only because they are so used to comfort foods. Once they get into it and see it working, which only works if they stick to it...they all seem to adapt very well.

I hear what your saying. It does not have to be a hardcore BB type diet though, just small frequent meals. I agree if the diet is to restrictive and hard she will not stick with it. Thats why I hate the saying "Im going on a diet" Sounds temporary, it needs to be way of life by changing eating habits.
It seams to me if people would just control portion sizes that would help them a lot.
I do hope Med loses the weight and reaches her goals, she will feel a lot better when she does.
-
She wont stick to a diet that is the same day in and out..look at jenny craig meals...they are a variety..what you gonna argue with a 100 billion dollar company,,Medford needs a diet that has a mixture of all foods but portioned right.
-

Sure, go ahead and look at Jenny Craig dieters and while you're looking, find out 3 things.
1. How many of them that do lose weight are actually primarily losing muscle tissue...and just because you're not a BB does not mean that you don't want to keep what muscle tissue you do have.
2. How many of them actually lose weight period?
3. How many of them actually keep the weight off? Because diets like these are not lifestyle changes, they are temporay relief at best.
-
so are yo yo diets like fish and chicken day in and out,,,bottom line,,she needs a diet built for her. Not all snacks of course, but she needs some snacks mixed in with a healthy diet that is a variety of foods..even something for a sweet tooth,,,
-

I have to agree with JediKnight.
You're talking about getting Medford on some kind of keto diet.
Why not try to change her eating habit permanently, learn her to eat a more healthy, balanced diet, that she will enjoy?
Get her to include more veggies.
And the bullshit about excluding proper carbs from the last few meals of the day... What's the point in that?
Keep the carb intake moderate, eg ~50% and the protein fairly high, cerca 20%. And obviously 30% fats.
But stick to the right kind of carbs.
JediKnight has the right idea. It's about giving Medford the tools to stay the course.
Medford has lost weight in the past, but always bounced back.
-

I bet the reason Med cant stay on the diet IS because she eats too many carbs. This has her on a blood sugar level roller coaster, with fat storing insulin spikes. Feeling hungry all the time and a lack of energy. Get your body to start burning fat for energy and you will be surprised how comfortable the diet is while loosing weight.
As to the tools Med needs to stay the course thats a whole different story. Most of that is in her head, yes psychological. People have all kinds of behaviors that make and keep them fat. Not saying these are Med but depression, low self esteem, boredome, reward eating, patterens learned as a child, obsessions with women in jail for murder......oh JK on the last one ;D....sorry Med.
To be honest it also seems she came on here and asked for advice but when given some she already has her own mind up and is not open to anything else? Why ask for advice when you already have it all figured out??
-
I ate a teeny steak with jack daniel's steak sause...I ate three eggs too that night...why cause my thighs hurt and I knew I had to slam some protein'
I ate a powerbar today, my Animal multipak with a small grape juice, and have been munching on trail mix. That's not a lot of food

That steak was five oz tops, tops I say
Medford, that is not "food". Those are excess carbs and sugars. And 5 oz is not a tiny piece of steak. I am bringing my bodyfat down for a show and I am only consuming 4 oz of protein (6 chicken, 1 fish, 1 lean steak on occasion) per meal and I eat 8 meals (one is a protein isolate shake - no carbs, no sugar).
And as far as the treadmill goes, it takes 20 minutes at a good pace (3.5 - 4) to bring the heart rate up. No need to run. Just keep adding to your incline (adding more and more each day...you're body will get used to the pace and the incline). Also...try not to hold the bar/rails while doing so...otherwise you are pretty much just assisting yourself and not allowing your legs to do all the work.
You can do it Medford. It's hard work though, if it wasn't....everyone would be in tip top shape. ;)
-
Medford, have you ever had so many guys arguing over you at one time?! ;D
Prove the doubters wrong!!

I am so happy the Medford thread is turning into such a hot topic! I should give myself a stickie! I will continue to read the heated debates. I actually had a cheat meal today, but it's not the end of the world. Also, I like training on the treadmill. It's too soon to lose anymore weight, but I do "feel" lighter if that makes any sense.
Instead of going to the gym today, I got up early and worked on the driveway. This consisted of chopping up a pile of snowy ice with an ice chopper and shovel...it was a good workout. I had the one cheat meal today, but am back on the diet.
I still take the ECA stack twice a day, and I personally feel this is a very effective aide.
The driveway looks a bit nicer. It was a workout, even though it was cold, I was sweating under my hat and all.
The key to ANY successful diet is SIMPLE: EAT LESS AND EXCERSIZE MORE!!! That's really all there is to it. I'm not dieting for a show or anything, but if I really progress I will pop up some pictures. It's only been since Nov 1st so give it some time.
Thanks for the support and interest, and keep up the heated arguments! :)

You had a cheat meal? No offense Medford, but you have been on these boards long enough to know what a weight loss diet consists of and according to what I have been reading....you really haven't even started dieting yet. You're eating trail mix, protein bars, drinking juice, adding steak sauce to steak. What was your "cheat" meal?
-
Arvilla..you look like Jack and Shit little man. Medford, you just have to portion your meal different,,you dont have to cut it all out,,You can snack AND eat clean but in such a way that you keep it interesting for you to stick by, you dont need a "bodybuilders" diet, you need an everyday diet that suits YOU. Good luck in your training,,remember Laura Lee has bigger quads than her brother Mike Arvilla,,you dont want to listen to his advice..he is just cocky about being 50 and placing 2nd in a show where there were 3 people over 40.
-
I meant really that I slipped up for one meal.
I really think that just by consistantly eating less, and going to the gym (or shoveling, which is long and hard work) that I'll be successful.
it's not like I'm going to look like THIS anytime soon
-
it's not like I'm going to look like THIS anytime soon
What about Barbara Fletcher, she's 4 feet and 9 inches short! :)

YES that's fantastic! These are great motivational pictures
A WORD ABOUT THE DIET:
You guys jumped when I said I had a steak. Here is a comparison for you:
PRE DIET:
the small steak, a roll, about five slices of american cheeze, and MAYO on both sides of the bread!
DIET:
the same small steak, with only a little bit of steak sause. This is why I think I can lose weight with what I am eating, COMPARED to the horrendus amount I was eating before!

Yes control the portions, eat frequently every 3-4 hours to keep blood sugar levels stable. Excersise and watch the weight fall off. 5 peices of cheese has more calories than the steak you eat. What do you live in Wisconsin or something ;)

Yeah me too. Cool you are going I bet the results of the hard work are starting to show, this is great. Stick with this, sounds like your liking that girl in your mirror more already :) Its gonna keep getting better. Before you know it you will be shopping for that new bikini.
-
It's not really "showing" except I did drop some pounds. I'm still going though. I actually like the workout, and the feeling it leaves me with. I just do the treadmill, and am trying to reduce the diet some.
-
went for an hour today.
-
Awesome job Medford. Maybe incorporate some "machine" weights to wake up your body even more. Keep it real light. Also find some good ab machines and try to really put some tension in your ab/stomach region, this will help to restrict your stomach more and actually make it smaller over time.
-
I was thinking of either lifting, or going back to practice karate as a second workout each day. But I'm not ready yet

This is a good idea, more muscle will help raise your BMR, that way you will burn more calories just sitting there. I know your not BB but this will help you big time in your fat loss goals. Nothing major maybe just whole body circuits 3 times a week, that would not take long, maybe 15-20 mins.
-
yeah...I'll work on it
-
I agree, I was going to suggest some weight training. It will boost your metabolism for up to 24 hours after you train, allowing you to burn more calories, sometimes more over a 24 hour period than cardio. Plus, the muscle you build will burn more calories just by existing on your body instead of fat.
Are you planning on sticking to a diet through the holidays next week?
-
sure. I was eating bad bad food and big portions, so it doesn't take much to cut that down.
I am planning on going to the gym tomorrow for an hour...gym closed Xmas.
-
up early and at the gym for an hour on the treadmill. Just keeping the heartrate in the fat burn range
went to Wal-Mart's and bought (among other things)
white grapefruit juice
three new pairs of sweatpants
Skipped Monday and Tuesday was Christmas, so back into the routine
note: I looked in the mirror today and, wow! My arms look all ropey and powerful. I'm not ready to post pictures yet, it's only been two months, but like she said, I am starting to like the girl in the mirror. Picts maybe come spring?
-

Cool! keep it up ;)
-
1 hour of cardio, thats awesome Medford. Keep up the great job.
-
Awesome Meddie, pics would be great! Keep up the good work. The New Year is the time to make resolutions and stick to them!!
:)
-
only forty minutes of cardio today. my joints felt sore last night and I almost didn't go this morning but I am glad I did. Forty minutes on the treadmill, it's liveable.
-
Hi Meddie! Oxygen Magazine is great for information and inspiration!
Also, do you have an IPOD or walkman that you can use when working out? If my workout partner doesn't show up, using my IPOD will keep me there until my workout is done (usually :-\ ).
Crystal Method type music is great for cardio and then harder stuff for lifting IMO.
Keep up the good work Meddie :)
-
I find the music, or listening to the TV, a distraction. Right now I just moniter my heartrate. I suppose ideally I'd listen to my German language tapes in the future, but right now I just concentrate on making an effort.
I'm sort of getting into the whole sweaty gym workout things now. I look forward to them. I'm planning on going tommorow after work ( I might just lift if my joints are sore again tonight) and Saturday morning and Sunday morning too.
Felt "lighter" today, would swear my pants were a little loose, wore a belt.
-

Yeah! Busy Child :)
-
Yeah! Busy Child :)
;D
-
I tend to listen to rammstein. or my 80's and 90's cassette tapes. I have about 500-600 cassette tapes mounted on a rack on the wall
-
;D
Man I can never get youtube to work well for some reason >:(
But I did crank that up and give it a listen, great training music :)
-
Cassette Tapes?!?!?!!?! :o
-
Cassette Tapes?!?!?!!?! :o
Yeah and just as cds are going out of style Meddie got her first CD J/K :) To go with her new VHS machine.
-
some date back to high school (you do the math)
I have a whole rack of them, 500 or so. I'll post a picture someday.
I didn't go to the gym...but now I FEEL like I should go...I wanted to catch up on some things.
Definately tommorow and Sunday though.
-
today was actually a lifting day at world's gym
did bench press, dumbell press
ran the rack with a dumbell curl set
and did two sets front and both sides on the Neck Machine with 70 lbs.
(I'm no pencil-neck)

LOL medford don't waste your time with the neck machine...get more bang for your buck with something like squats, lunges, or some additional upper body work!

Agree, not a big fan of women with big, thick necks.
-
my neck is pretty thick naturally, same with traps: lucky for me I have naturally wide shoulders. the whole effect makes me look like a short and squat powerlifter.
ended the year with a bang and did a whole hour on the treadmill. no workout today due to abbreviated hours at the gym and my work today. I must say that things are coming along nicely.

Great news this is gonna be a good year for you :)
-
thank you. I must say that I haven't gone to the gym this consistantly in quite a while. I'm a little bummed I have to take today off due to the short gym hours and my being at work, maybe that's why I did a full hour yesterday
I feel lighter. I think that my tummy has gone down some, my legs have firmed up a little. I still got stubborn fat to lose, but I'm on the downward trend and not the upward trend, so how it happens is how it happens
My ephedrine came yesterday. Yum. I think maybe ten people PM'd me for the hassle free site. Some sites sell fake ephedrine. Beware.
I was thinking of chopping this up into two threads. the first will be Medford's journey with my comments and everyone's comments and inputs. the other will be Medford's log with only logged workouts.
Thank you to everyone who typed in here. It's working because I'm working it.
-
Keep it up Medford...patience and consistency!!
Seriously though, if you have limited time to train with weights, don't spend it isolating things like your neck muscles...go for bigger, compound exercises that are going to work multiple muscles and make you work harder and burn more calories! :)
-
yeah the neck is just for fun
today I think I was distracted by worrying/thinking about going for my car inspection sticker after my workout
only did 30 minutes on the treadmill and it was a slow pace
I also tried doing my back WOW I haven't done back in years, and correctly isolating the lats was weird, they felt strained and I quit after three sets
its going to take some time to get the lats up to par
on a good note, I feel more bodybuilderish, I know it's been only two months but I am getting more and more into it, looking forward to workouts and mentally planning them
-
You should take a look at some of the training threads on this board (Back training, glute/lower body, arm training, etc) to get some ideas for workouts. :)
-
I actually bought the three Bob Chic bodybuilding DVD's from bodybuilding.com, they are excellent.
Sally sent me her routine too. Lots of stuff to learn
-
skipped two days of gymwork, was up this morning feeling drained. think I may need recovery time? checked the scale, OMG
dropped three or four more pounds and didn't even know it
checked by trying on a pair of pants I had that are one size smaller than the size I've been wearing the past two years
holy smokes they fit...not a great fit but I could put them on
well, now, gonna really tweak the diet...success breeds success...I was in the greengrocer's section of the supermarket today, don't think I have been in that section before (blush)
got some sensible stuff to snack on
I am shocked at progress and am greedy to make the needle on the scale go down lower

Good work, I figured if you got to the seeing results side like you are then it would snow ball for you.
Just stay consistant with your work outs, I would doubt you are overtrained in any way. Make yourself go when you are supposed to.
-
I think I'm exausting myself. Came home today and saw another pound gone. Working 40 hours plus an extra day at another job, plus going to the gym 5 to 7 days a week. Just need some rest
diet went awesome today though.

Maybe you should cut down for 3 to 4 times a week. Stress is a slow killer, and bad for dropping fat and adding some muscle. Rest is good.

Diet is probably 80% of it. I'd like to see more about your diet...what does an awesome diet day look like?
-
low sodium v8 juice with ammino acid tablets
4oz grape juice with AM vitamins
ECA stack with white grapefruit juice
celery sticks with natural peanut butter
tiny can of white chicken packed in water
broccoli salad (raw broccoli, extra virgin olive oil and chopped garlic)\
skim milk and whey protein shake with a banana
nighttime one apple with a vitamin C
(those are the foods with some varience, also a post workout Anabolic Window shake after I lift sometimes)
and water, water, water, water, water
-
Medford, you rock, you are doing such a great job. I like that diet also. Your keeping it clean but still keeping a variety. Keep it up and we all are proud of you! :) Don't forget to stretch.
-
That is looking much better medford. I'd love to see you at least substitute real fruit for the fruit juice, and keep all of your fruit early in the day, maybe eat something other than an apple before bed. You're definitely on the right track, though...keep it up! :)
-
Hey Medford, they have this "sugar free" juice from Tropicana and Minute Maid that's pretty good. It goes down like water but they have different flavors, like , sugar free lemonade, orange , and fruit punch.
-
I like the broccoli salad idea, stole it from work.
Um...the juice in the am is only about 4 to 6 oz, just to boost my sugar till food hits me. I have hypoglycimia.
The grapefruit juice is to boost the ECA.

I cant really tell when are you eating those foods listed. Is each listing a meal?
I gotta say I dont really like the looks of it. But if its working for ya then I guess. I would just wonder how you can stay on a diet like that for long? There does not look to be enough protien in there or calories for that matter.
Nothing in there is real food, what do you hate to cook? Shouldnt food look like a meal on a plate? With maybe a half potato, chicken breast and some veggies. No wonder you are tired.
Just my 2 cents
-

I'm a cook! Really!
-
I'm a cook! Really!
So since you do it at work, you hate doing it at home?
What kind of stuff do you cook? Whats your signature meal?
-
pizza (brick oven) and a few italian dishes. Best one is the Gratinati (tri colored tortalini's, formaggio mix, chicken and tomatoes baked in the oven till golden brown)
-
Yumm Pizza, pasta no wonder you have to keep the will power up.
I will make a chicken pasta meal that I like from time to time. I use.
1/2 lb Brown rice pasta, I like pene
1.25 lb seasoned Grilled chicken breast cut into pieces
In a large bowl add olive oil, sea salt, course ground pepper, Italian seasoning blend, dash or 2 of garlic and onion powder.
Add half pasta and half the chicken to bowl and mix. Add grated parmesan or blend of type cheese and mix in.
Add more olive oil, seasonings and the other half pasta, chicken and more chesse :) mix up.
Cover put in micro to heat more for 90 seconds or so. Remove, drizzle small amount of olive oil on top add a few more shakes of chesse, toss and enjoy! Very good cold too.
I dont measure stuff just go by instinct LOL. This usually is 2 meals for me. Yes its far from diet food LOL.
-
yeah it kind of kills me to go blend whey protein with skim milk then lug that to work...
hey just did 45 minutes on the treadmill...worked up quite a sweat...(yes I showered after ::) )

sounds so good..i am gonna have to try that,,it's not that far from diet food,,its healthy, u got your carbs, protein, some good fats,,and you get a really energy paked meal,,,i liek that,,,i am gonna make some and keep it, ready to eat in my fridge,,ty...
-
My upper body overpowers my lower body, and I still lack defenition

Thanks it is very tasty. I don't eat much pasta now a few too many carbs for me, but a might do it here and there for a change of pace. I found that the tomato based pasta sauce or as my Grandma used to call it "gravy" gave me too much heartburn sometimes, so i came up with this.
Yep it is pretty healthy if you go light on the salt and cheese :) I have been thinking about adding some broccoli to it also.
My upper body overpowers my lower body, and I still lack defenition
Keep with it and you will amaze yourself i bet!

Yes it's only been two months. That's it. Hardly a drop in the bucket! Gimmie till springtime, when all that snow melts, and I'll show you some improvement!
-
Like Luv said, I'm not to thrilled with the looks of that diet, but to echo, if it works then great. Either way, I'd cut the milk out completely...skim or not, it still has a lot of sugar in it, and that's not good for anything.
The biggest thing I don't like is your diet is almost all carbs...there is hardly any fat or protein in it. I know, some will scream that Medford is not trying to follow some strict BB style diet. Well, that's fine, but every diet needs those nutrients in it.
More then anything, I hate seeing the fruit juice in there...it's simply not necessary and has zero benefit other then taste.
-
what's your idea of good protein
ie...egg whites, plain chicken, other?
gimmie something to work with here
-

Those are all fine choices...also, lean cuts of beef, such as fillet or top round a few whole eggs mixed in there (a lot of benefits with whole eggs) good fish protein, tilapia, flounder, cod...salmon for a bit of fat...protein powder should always be isolate IMO instead of concentrate...concentrat e is pure garbage and a waste of money.
-

egg whites, chicken, beef, turkey, salmon, tuna, : good protein
good carbs: brown rice, multigrain pasta, potatos,
Medford, just make meals for yourself for the whole week like Rip it up said, that way you have them ready to eat,,remember it's still ok to have a snack here and there but make sure you are getting your daily intakes of everything..remember ,,mix it up,,you dont always have to eat chicken for every meal..u can have turkey burgers on the barbecue,,or salmon from a sushi joint,,... it doesnt have to be boring..goodluck,
a few good choices: terriyaki chicken bowl,,, chicken, brown rice, brocilli, terriayki sauce
beef bowl:: beef, brown rice, veggies
turkey burgers with cheese
chicken and pasta
use 6 oz of chicken and a cup or 2 of rice with each meal
try to cut back on the juice and maybe try some other sugar free juices, but you dont have to cut out completely,,instead of drinking a full cup of juice,,pour a half cup of sugar drinks when u need them,,but otherwise try and stay away from them,,after u start drinking sugar free juice,,u wont wanna go back,,it taste good,
tuna with lowfat cheese
salmon with a baked potato ,,,,also try and drink a protein shake daily..
snacks::: celery with pnut butter, low fat yogurt, fruit, veggies, almonds,,
maybe get a wok,,,cook all those things in it,,portion them into ready to eat containers,,then u have a bunch of meals for the week,,
-

IMO, protein powder should preferably be blends, with at least some caseinate in them.
If you're going to drink them between meals, and at nights.
It will keep you full longer.
Medford, try to eat more more fish, and like Arnold jr writes, add a few whole eggs every other day to your diet.
Mix it up.
If you eat a little more good fats such as olive oil (eg use it with a salad), you will have a much better control of your low blood sugar.
Fact is, if you have low blood sugar, you should probably avoid any kind of fast carbs, that would get the blood sugar real high, and then send it CRASHING.
Stick with slow carbs, protein and good fats. Perhaps even buy a book on Glycemic Index, and how to eat according to it.
-

Do you have control over your calories? Do you count them?
Good work btw Medford. Debussey = glad to see you walking the talk. Keep going. :D
-
I will admit here, that the serious and good advice on a few threads has been a very useful tool
That's why I am open to suggestions (that make sense)
FACTS:
1. I started overweight. I was not overweight in h.s. or college. my weight gain was self imposed as an adult
2. The weight gain happened over a period of 10 to 15 years
3. I only started training (regularly) two months ago
4. I only tweaked my diet over a two to three week period (at first I was ravishingly hungry from going from zero to almost an hour, of excersize)
-
can someone turn the sideways pictures?
-
Great info in this thread...and great pics Medford! Next time, bring the camera a little closer!! :D
You're doing well, and you would benefit from incorporating some of the diet suggestions, esp with regards to protein. Find a nice chinese restaurant and have them steam a filet of fish for you...it's fantastic all by itself if it's nice and fresh. The local Chinese restaurant here does steamed red snapper that's tough to beat even when you're not dieting.
Keep with it...the more results you see, the more motivated you get...that's the way it goes. So things are just starting to get good now.
-
those are some 20 year old picts. I wasn't fat forever, just as an adult.
off to the gym now.
-
can someone turn the sideways pictures?
I'm sure someone can...where's knny when you need him? :D
You were an adorable little girl!!
If you weren't fat from birth, then it's all about lifestyle and habits, and it will be no problem for you to acheive whatever physique you want. :)
-
;D
-
;D
That first pic is actually a hilarious pic. ;D

Red Sox Rule Baby!!
-
yeah note the panelled walls...obviously I was in a house of ill repute.
Those are my Pearl Harbor weapons...one oz vodka, one oz midori, pineapple juice.
the Red Sox shirt was a gift...it was hard to wear that stuff before they started winning!
-
Good thread w/lots of good info and suggestions. Keep it up Meddie :)

I'm almost tempted to go work out A SECOND TIME TODAY...
That's very inspirational!
And it brings up a question I have for the "experts." :)
I know if you plan to do 2 cardio sessions and one lifting session in one day that it's better to do your cardio sessions hours apart. But what if you need to do all 3 sessions (2 cardio plus weight-training) at one time? Is it actually detrimental to the body? Would taking in a protein shake help or is it better to just skip one cardio session that day?
-
cardio this am, just came back from Worlds throwing some light weights around (and soaking up the atmosphere too)

So your saying do cardio, weights and another cardio session? I personally would just skip the one cardio that day maybe make the one you do a little longer. Also, but you probally already knew this STella do the cardio after the weight training, always.

I think the biggest mistake dieters do, is when they bite off more than they can chew (pun intended).
If they get on 2 cardio sessions a day, and 5 weight workouts a week, they may either get overtrained and injured, or mentally drained.
Gotta pace themselves, and focus on eating right.
-
I did the two workouts cause it was my one day off
but I am taking today off as a rest day.
started off good, with a protein shake in the am, and my multis

Yeah, I'd agree that's over-doing it for someone who is on a "normal" pace for weight loss. It can definitely lead to overtraining, fatigue, and injury.
If you've only got one session in the gym on a given day, best to do the weight training first, and then some cardio, or all cardio.
During the hardest time of my contest prep, I'll do one cardio session in the morning and add 30-40 mins MAX of light to moderate cardio after weight training in the evening, but it's not necessary to do that when dieting like a normal person, and it's not the kind of pace that anyone can keep up for a long time. It's true that NUTRITION is the primary influence, so that's where the most focus needs to be.
-

I'm of the opinion that pure whey isolate is just better protein. However, you are right, when taking protein powder you want it to "last" more then 15 seconds...that's why adding in fats to your shake is a good thing when using whey isolate...it slows down the absorption of the protein.
It's kind of a win/win sort of thing....you're getting the best protein in terms of powder, and it's absorbing slowly, not instantly..
BTW, what you said about her controlling her blood sugar, I agree...perfect advice.
-
you know, I had a moment of weakness where I thought I was going to order some burgers. I didn't, but the funny thing was I was MAD at myself and dissapointed after I thought about it, as IF I ACTUALLY did order the burgers.
Rested today, plan on cardio in AM.
oh, and I only trained twice cause it was my day off. I skipped today. :)
-
hey once in awhile, it's ok to have that burger. Your doing great Medford, your doing an AWESOME job.
-
forgot one thing about losing weight
and a certain point, some guys start to notice/flirt with me
at first it creeps me out, after being ignored for so long
did 45 minutes on the treadmill today
am: ephedrine HCL 30 mg, asprin (I know, I know) and black coffee
hour later 4 oz grape juice 2 oz pomm. juice, one animal pak multi
to the gym, water water water
post workout an apple
have my protein shake ready and my 2nd and final eca stack I take with green tea extract and white grapefruit juice
and maybe I'll have that burger today? not sure
-
Have a lean burger at home ;)
-
ok I'll skip the burger. but really, things are going great. I think I have lost 15 lbs?
-

To be honest, no need to drink extreme amounts of water.
Just drink to quench the thirst.
General rule of thumb: The piss should be light yellow, not totally watery or dark yellow.
There is this ancient myth that drinking water will help with fat loss, but it only put extra strain on the kidneys.
Of course, drink enough of water. Don't go thirsty. And definitely bring a water bottle whenever you train, and sip a little on it.
But you shouldn't have to go piss once or twice every hour.
Hope this helps.
-
I drink a lot at the gym cause...well...I sweat a lot. Ick actually, soaks half the shirt. of course I shower.
-
Hey if the drinking water helps then I would just keep doing it. Better than snacking when you are not hungry. People can become hungry if they don't drink enough water. It may help blunt your appetite too.
-
I am actually tired today, thinking of not doing cardio tomorrow? why so tired? but did 45 mins today.
-
I am actually tired today, thinking of not doing cardio tomorrow? why so tired? but did 45 mins today.
You're tired because you are in a calorie deficit, and you are exercising. Are you getting enough sleep?
You should try to do something active every day, but you don't have to push it really hard every single day. Take a recovery day if you feel like you NEED it, but get a good night's sleep and see how you feel tomorrow.
-
yeah I do sleep like nine hours a night.
I think I might make myself run a bit tommorow...just because I can.
-
Eat some real food.
-

Good work. Make sure you have about 3 real food meals per day, they can be smallish about 500 cal each That and a couple supplement meals and you will be good to go. Im thinking about 2000 calories or so for now. That should give you enough energy.
Another thing that might be making you tired or low on energy is the ECA stack. I always crash from caffine pretty hard and while pumped while drinking it feel very tired and lethargic a couple hours later. I hate those stimulants like E and C they make me feel like crap. But do enjoy a couple big cups of striong coffee in the AM but am always done drinking it by 8-9 am. Even though by 10:00 I need a nap then.
Personally I dont think you need the stimulants, they run you down in the long run.
-
omg the ECA stack, I forgot about that...no wonder!
-
I LOVE the ECA stack. Love it love it love it. I think I'm just tired right now because I am midway in my work week. Time for bed.
-

Well it's good that you love it, but you're gonna have to power through the crashes. If you are sleeping enough, then keep in mind that the ECA will make you extra tired, and don't skip your workouts to avoid over-training.
-
hey you know what, I was legit-ly tired
slept for a solid TEN hours or more last night.
I skip workouts to avoid joint pain
today I think I'll go play with the weights after work rather than do cardio
-
Meddy take something for your joints with Glucosamine, Protease enzymes and MSM.
It works well, remember you are not that young any more.
-
true that I am not that young anymore
I took at least ten hours of sleep as a recovery. overall, things are going well and I am pleased with my success
perhaps in about six months I will get a professional photographer to take progress pictures, and I will post some "before" pictures so you can compare results

Medford, you don't need a professional to take your photos. Just have someone take regular shots of you. Those are the most "honest" types of pictures.

3 years ago I used glucosamine/chondroïtine for my troubled right knee. Used it for about 2 or 3 months, it's been good ever since.

good to know, and thanks.
you know what? I dropped another 2 pounds! THATS why I was so tired. Backing off a couple of days, because the weight loss is happening too fast.
If you're keeping track, total is minus 15 lbs since Nov 1st

That's not too fast at all IMO. You've been dieting 10wks if you started at the 1st of Nov. If you hadn't lost 15lbs by now then something would be wrong. Keep in mind, all of that 15lbs is not bf.
-
That's definitely a good and healthy pace for weight loss...keep it up, don't slow down!!

Definitely not too fast.
Just stick with it.
These are the critical few weeks, when the diet will make or break.
If you hang in there for the next 3-4 weeks, you will get through with it.
You have to focus on your goal, on being in shape this summer, and what a great feeling that will be.
How good you will feel. This is what you need to think about, at least a couple of minutes every day.
It will keep your mind strong.
Whenever your doing cardio, let your mind focus on things like this; the great payoff for all your hard work.
Good to hear that you're able to sleep well.
A long, deep sleep prevents the body from being stressed up, and keeps the body in a healthy state.
And as usual, keep eating the healthy carbs, plenty of fish and chicken, ham, et al.
Veggies.
And another tip: Use seasoning. Such as garlic, pepper, salt, et al. Spice up the food, make it more enjoyable.
Let me re-iterate: Don't slow the weightloss down. Keep it up.
If you continue on this pace, you will be able to (realistically) lose some 30 lbs more before summer.
If you do that, you will have changed completely.
And remember, onlyme has already lost 55 lbs... ;)
-
wow hedgehog that was a fantastic post. I should print it out and carry it with me

I agree that was a good one. Very motivational and also points out that healthy food does not have to be bland.

That was an awesome post. 8)
Now Medford, do what he says!!

onlyme reports that as his weightloss. I couldn't keep up with numbers like that. I will, however, get right back into training today, my little break has cost me.
and I'm too embarrased to have this thread a sticky :-[

You're a much smaller person.
Percentagewise, I'm sure you're fairly close.
Just keep the focus on the goal.

Don't really know if its true but read somewhere once that ham/pork is a poor choice of protein. They said the quality of the protein was poor.
I sure did love the Honey Baked Ham I had for Christmas though!

I've heard the same thing but never by anyone that I would hold too much value in their opinion. After all, "THEY" say a lot of things, lol!

I am amazed when I look in the mirror or weigh myself on the scale. Still have many pounds to go. You should see the before pictures :-X right now I look okay. Just okay.

when we gonna see you on America's next Model?
-
I'm not a model. But, I would like to really do what I can with what I have.
Prep day: got my whey protein shakes made. need to make broccoli salad.
doing the laundry for the week. thinking about getting a few more workout gear outfits
Today is kind of a moment for me. I've had these pants that are two inches smaller in the waist than what I've been wearing for a couple of years. It's finally time to wash these brand new pants then take them down to the tailor's and have them shortened. I think I am at the point where I can finally start wearing them. My waist size and fat ass have always been my major weakness, but with my recent weight loss over the past few months, I am feeling great, and not only am I going to get the pants that I ordered more than a year ago tailored, I'm also getting psyched about only wearing them for a short time until I need an EVEN SMALLER size pants!

Thats great! Yeah buy yourself a couple new things now cause it will feel great. But dont go crazy cause you will like you said need even smaller clothes in a couple months. :)
-
Congrats Medford, keep up the good work. This is just the beginning! :)
-
yes I think I am at the point where I will look into being a bartender. I wanted to go down a size first. I'm going to give notice at my one job in a day or two. I'm going to try to expand my role with the other job, go back to trade school, and practice our house specialty drinks (I have had the workbook for months)

Bartender??!! This sounds terrible.
-
bartender. my grandfather was a bartender. I want this.
Back in the gym after more than a week layoff. Did a nice and easy 30 minute treadmill workout to get back into it.
-

I agree. Ham is the last meat I would choose for a protein source. And yes...love Honey Baked Ham. Haven't had that in over 3 years. :(
-
Um, I am so glad that I did a light workout today. I would stay away from ham, although I hear green eggs and ham are good, from Sam I Am.
-

I didn't realize you had taken more than a week off!! I hope you stuck to a tight diet during that time.
Get back in there with a renewed energy and motivation to take it to the next level!
(P.S. Ham may not be ideal for a bodybuilder's diet, but I think ham would be fine for you to eat on occassion, minus the cheese and mayo, and perhaps the bread. ;D Just watch the sodium, which shouldn't be a problem if you are drinking plenty of water.)
-
yeah it was a tough week. back in the swing of things now, didn't gain any weight from the week off.
-
bartender. my grandfather was a bartender. I want this.

Regarding the ham:
As long as it is the low fat kind, ham is an awesome and healthy source for protein. Sliced, smoked ham, or minced ham in salads eg.
Don't get bored in the gym, a 30 minute treadmill workout is perfect. Great job.
And get a few weight lifting workouts in, but remember to pace yourself, if you get too ambitious, with some 9-10 workouts a week, you will soon find yourself with another week off.
It's much better to get 2-4 workouts in per week, be realistic about it.
And then don't let yourself go with the diet.
Regarding the bartender job: I think it's a great idea. If it's what you wanna do, go for it. But be aware that working late will make you more prone to put on fat, so you will have to be even better with the diet.
But I'm sure you can do it.
-
solid advice. 30 minutes is hardly a warm up though. I'm shooting for 5 or 6 workouts but can live with 4 per week.
I'm surprized I went down a size. Dropping the new pants off at the cleaners to be hemmed today. ;D
-
keep up the great work Medford.

Not to mention the lifestyle of a bartender is about as far from a fiitness lifestyle as it gets. "Goodie I get to be around abnoxious drunks all night!" I hope they have a no smoking law in your state or you can add 2 packs worth of second hand smoke to the deal every night.
Do you drink much Med? Have you ever wrestled with drinking issues in the past?
Im sorry but bartender just does not seem like the "I'm getting my life together type job" You mentioned trade school? What is this about? Kind of wondering how old you are?
Sorry if I seem cynical.
-
I also think it will be hard to keep healthy if you are a bartender.
What happens if some one tells you " and one for yourself" or wants to down a few shooters with the muscular bar lady?
Remember you are 40 now so you better start looking after yourself.
-

It's pretty hard, but possible. I know a bartender that's actually in good shape. It needs discipline, it's not easy.
I work out 3 times a week with weights, and added a spinning class on top of that. Gotta be a superman before the summer arrives. :D
-
couldn't believe it when I stepped on the scale. Wow. 20 down, many more to go
-

Congrats Medford, that's awesome! 20 is a big milestone...at this point, you're over half way to losing 40. 8)
-
Keep it up.
-
The next 20 will be the test. I was exacty 20 pounds lighter when I worked for the department of correction and went to the academy and finished training with a 5 mile run

Don't forget the mirror. If you're still 5 pounds heavier but your mirror tells you that you look good, don't bother with the last 5 pounds.
-

It's about mixing it up.
The foods.
You're a cook, and I envy you for this.
You have the skills to cook great tasting food, and make big cookings for a whole week, with it being both healthy AND tasty.
Salmon, tuna, poultry, veggies, olive oil...
The training.
Weightlifting once or twice a week. Brazilian Ju Jutsu or some other martial art, dancing. Climbing. Volleyball. Start up the day with a brisk morning walk.
Sleep. Try to get to bed at regular times.
Hopefully, you will already have noticed how your blood sugar levels are a little more even, and that you don't get that tired feeling as bad anymore.

cool. like those posts, good stuff
I am kind of pleased with my 20 lb loss. I am going to include more lifting in my program. got the dumbbells set up at home now and am using them, finally. I like the cardio, it's a great workout.
eating less is easier now. the results motivate me for more results
I might do a couple of pictures soon, not sure.
-
Medford, I am only about an hour away from you. I'd love to come down and train with you sometime maybe this spring or summer if you can get me into your gym!
Of course, we'd have to take pics for the board! ;D

cardio tomorrow in AM

Sweet.
What I also want to know is how is the diet going?
And when do you want to train with me?
-
I was impressed using the 50 lb dumbbells...shrugs is my strongest movement
you know, sally always said when she is out of prison she will train with me and I think NO WAY
Medford is inherantly lazy. Unless you want to train on the heavybag, speed bag, etc. then I work for it.
-
If you hang in there into the end of February (and February a short month! ;)), your appetite and eating behavior should've changed, so the dieting will be much easier by then.
And also add the fact that we're constantly getting longer days with more sun hours, which helps us stay more focused (always easier to diet in the spring).
You've done the hard part Medford, know it's time to hang in for a few more weeks, then it will be much easier to do.
Again, take time to cook, using whole-grain pasta, and use foods from this classic article, Power Foods, foods that are especially nutritious:

yeah I worked out this week but slipped up on the diet. I'm being honest. I think I became complacent. The only thing that makes me focused on diet is going to the gym regularly. I need to prepare food in advance. I'm going back on track though

must bump up the cardio. the weights are fun but the cardio should be a priority
-
must bump up the cardio. the weights are fun but the cardio should be a priority
Both are important. If you CAN weight train (meaning if you have the time), then you should.
Don't forget that you get more afterburn from weight training, meaning that your metabolism will be increased for a longer period of time after you train with weights, allowing you to burn more calories over a 24 hour period.
-
tomorow equals only day off
cardio in AM, gym weights at night...wooo hooo
-
Hey Medford,
when your ready, I wanna send you (2) tickets to a bodybuilding show of your choice. Let me know when you wanna go. Take who ever u want. maybe sally.

Medford, you should go to the New Englands in early May. It's the biggest NPC show around these parts. I think it's being renamed the Jay Cutler Classic this year, not sure though. Jay guest poses every year.
My hubby and I are on Team New England and we run all 8 of the NPC shows in New England...so just let me know if you want in, and I can put you on the list for any of them.
Let Jedi get your tickets for something like the Olympia. ;)
-
New England's early in May, let me know exactly when and where, and I'll go! I'll take the day off from work and everything.

Sunday May 4, I believe...at John Hancock Hall in downtown Boston. I put the link for the info about all of the shows in the area in the "Never" thread you started. It's a good show. I'll put you on the VIP list. 8)
Hopefully we'll have a chance to meet up before then. ;)

It's also another thing:
You're starting to become a different person, you're transforming into a more fit, smaller person, with a different body.
This is actually something that a few people will have difficulty facing at first.
It's the "fat shield", the "fat person identity".
You become somewhat a different person, and during this transformation, starts to ask yourself if you can be this new person.
Doesn't happen to everyone, but not uncommon.
Everything will be like before. It will just be that much better.

your primary goal is weight loss...............yet you ate a steak with steak sauce?!?!??!??!!?!??!
limit your red meat to once a week (no sauce!)
let me know when your ready to get serious with your diet!
Wait..I started back at the gym..and my goal is weight loss...I ate red meat 3 times last week in my salad and I lost 9.2 llbs my first week. Am I missing something here..Grant it I dont use steak sauce or anything but why red meat once a week..For the most part last week is how I ate...
for breakfast a banana or yogurt
for lunch either a piece of chicken or grilled pork chop with veggies(no sauce on anything)
for dinner salad with a piece a chicken or red meat in it..
-
yesterday I ate half bowl cherrios with 2percent milk
for lunch 1 can of tuna with 1 tblsp of mayo and evenly put the tuna with mayo on 3 different leaves of romaine lettuce.
For dinner I made chicken enchilidas..just one though a tortilla, ground meat and enchilada sauce..
oh yea and since i started at the gym. I get up at 5:15am and last week (first week did 35 min for 6 days) all cardio..this week I will up cardio to 45..
medford I hope you are doing well..I will say I joined weight watchers the same day I started the gym. For me its all in my mind. If I pay to get weighed I will loose weight.
-
Good for you newmom! Keep up the good work.
See medford, you are inspiring people. ;)
-
thanks rip, but it wasnt medford. I'm just bored at home..all my cleaning and stuff and gym is done. I already made salad for dinner so I was just trolling the boards and found this thread. My inspiration. Well I have a few. Number one is my daughter. I have to get in shape. She is fun to run around with. Now I'm not as tired. Number two, my physical results, not to mention, my weight got wayyyyyyyy out of control. Lastly, my 20 year reunion in end of august in san diego. I wanna take princess to disneyland. She will be 3 and I have to go on some rides with her. I dont even drink diet soda. 1 cup of coffee in the am and one in the afternoon and water. That is all I drink. It's going to be a long road, but I'm up to the challange. After just one week, I feel and sleep so much better. I'm actually sleeping by 10. I made the decision to go to the gym in the early a.m. because if I wait until 8pm after jacks has had her bath and we read and she is in bed, I'll be to tired. I wish the gym had aerobics and spin classes later at night instead of 5pm. But what can you do.

I know, I'm just tryin' to keep meddie motivated. ;)
That's awesome. Sounds like you have plenty of inspiration...the results you are seeing (especially in terms of how you are feeling) should help keep you motivated!

Let Jedi get your tickets for something like the Olympia. ;)
I was thinking of going depending on when it is..Isnt it in Boston

Yes, in Boston the first Sunday in May (May 3?). Let me know if you decide to go. It's a great show. :)

Check out www.npcnewengland.com We have eight shows a year in the area. Mike Katz's show down in CT in November is a really good drug-tested show.

You're staying in there, and that's good news.
Side note: I watched the biggest loser TV Show the other day, and I was very impressed with a lot of those contestants, and the show wasn't as degrading as I thought it would be.
Very inspirational IMO. Even for fairly fit persons like myself.
The take-home message is pretty clear: If they can - So can you.
Very good actually.

I'm doing very well. I'm at the gym at 5:30 every am..which means I'm up at 5. I'm up to 50 mintues of moderate to high cardio. Food intake is going super well. My second weigh in at weight watchers was -4.8 which brings first two week total to minus 13.6 llbs. Before I started the gym on 2/8 I was suffering from sleep apnea and in the process of getting my breathing machine. Now I sleep through the night and I dont even have the breathing machine and I dont think I will order one. I feel soo much better and have a long road ahead of me. As long as I keep doing what I'm doing. Thanks for asking by the way.

You are doing really good , and that's great news about the apnea , it's hard to sleep with that machine and you're already getting better sleep without it :D
WoW 13.6 lost in 2 weeks , goodonya ;)
I give you credit for all the hard work you're doing , it ain't easy being a Mom to a little one and getting up that early to begin your hectic day.
Have you been trying new foods , or altering some favorites to fit your needs ?
I'm assuming you just eat weightwatchers food but I wasn't sure ???
I hope you keep on doing this good and feel better and better . great job . Good Luck :)

This is the type of diet Meddie should be following. It doesn't have to be a BB diet, but it should not be a sugary drink and trail mix diet either. :)
http://www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?topic=170475.0
thank you so much - I have been trying to follow this diet and it is starting to work. I am 50 and have been working out about 3 times a week for a few years now. I had lost 40 lbs and have gained about 20 back. prolly from just being a slacker... but am trying to do cardio 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes each. and also have not stopped trying build muscle. I really appreciate your advice on this thread.

How's it going Medford??

good. going to the gym today and looking forward to it.
-
Medford, it's been more than a week. After seeing what you posted recently in the "post what you eat" thread, I think that you need to regroup, clean up your diet, FOCUS on your diet, and keep us posted with more details!
I want to come down and train with you, but you gotta make an effort too! Use this thread to hold yourself more accountable woman!!!
-
I think Mikes advice on this matter is good.
Sorry to say I told you so, but......
-
But what I dont understand about Mike's advice is that he stated to cut back on red meat..I eat 3 oz of red meat a day and since feb 8 I have lost 27 llbs. Grant it my diet is very strict and havent steared from it and train 6 days a week straight cardio
-

I agree with you, red meat is fine in moderation when losing weight. dang I will eat plenty of red meat while dieting for a comp. I think Mike's overall point was that generally red meat is lower in calories so this may be good on a weight loss diet. But for me leanish red meat will boost my metabolism, cause i try to get in a fat burning metabolism. And your 3 oz red meat will do just that (what is that 2 bites?) its when you start eating a lb of hamburger per sitting that you might get in trouble LOL, God do I know!!

I haven't given up hope on Medford yet...although I sure would like to hear more from her! >:(

Sorry to hear about your knees.Losing weight will likely help alleviate some of that pain.
You're not just working out ONE DAY per week, are you? >:(
-
I had to give my joints a chance to adjust...I was eating advil and drinking black coffee just to make it through each day. it was sad, I'd be balled up in a world of pain by nightfall. I think I have adjusted enough to start to work out again, I'm looking for gyms near work too

There's a gym everywhere Medford. Find one. Make IT your home away from home. :)

Medford will never make it. Just like I said on page 1. All I hear is excuses its been a long time since this thread started and no progress whatsoever. She should work on her inner self first.
I hoped she would have made it though.

I hate to say it, but I agree with L2H. >:( Nothing against Medford, but she has talked the talk since day one and not followed through. Medford, it's ok if you don't want to make this change, but it does bother me to see good people that really want to help you (Lori) get involved and look excited to help you, putting themselves out there to help you (especially when she's trying to get herself ready for her own shows) and you not truly make an attempt to better yourself/your health. You are wasting her time and her energy that should be focused on herself for her show.
We like you Medford, for you, not because you train or don't train. :)
So if you want to make that change (in your health/in your physique) then just do it and just do it for you. :-*

Ya know I wanted to say things along the line with Laura Lee. Medford, I was the same way, something always came up. But on Saturday I got stamped on my 26 weeks on weight watchers at 100 llb loss. I used to bitch about the way I looked while eating onion rings with ranch dressing or chowing on some mickey d's. Now I'm not saying your like that just pointing out how I was. Noone is busier than anyone else. People say I;m nuts because Im at the gym at 5am, but if I wait till after work I wont go. By the time I get off work, pick up jackie, take her home, feed and bath her its 8pm and I dont want to go then. I hope you get on track. After all, you helped inspire me. I hope I didnt come off mean, but I will admit how proud of myself I am and no matter what, you should be too

Meddie , it's a tough thing to deal with and I know sometimes it seems like it takes too much to accomplish our goals .. if you do anything try to live differently than you have been .. even baby steps will move you forward ;)
Eat better and drink lots of water , the black coffee is not good ... make yourself eat 4/5 small good healthy meals and don't get things that aren't good for you
You can control what goes in your body easier than people who have others to contend with .. if you consider how much effort and energy you spent trying to help Sally all this time , you will see that you need to do the same for yourself
Chin up Sue and carry on with tenacity .. walk , everywhere to begin with and take supplements for your joints not ibuprofen , try some SAM-e it will help you I think
Like Laura said "We like you for you" , but you can be a better you and feel happy with yourself .. I know you can ;)

You ladies are ON FIRE lately. :-*
-
I totally agree w8m8. We can control what goes in our body. As I am making things for my little ones bday party, I wanted to eat the chicken pasta salad myself, but I just kept veggies next to me and chewed on that. I had to change my lifestyle completly. I get weighed in today and should hit 104 llbs lost. Now I have no idea how much you want or need to loose, but I know if I can do it anyone can. I was the queen of eating junk and being super unhealthy. Now dont get me wrong, I still smoke ciggies, but I can do one thing at a time. Once I reach my goal weight (20 more llbs) then I will work on quitting smoking and yes I will have to go to weight watchers still, probably for a super long time. I realize I cant do it on my own, its helps me to stay accountable. I couldnt be prouder of myself, and I dont think I have ever said that in my life. Meddie, I know you can do it if you want it bad enough.
-
I'm a little concerned with the numbness in my arms. Now there's these lumps in the wrist that look like veins but they are not blue. wtf
-
Meddie go see a Dr
and don't mess around wasting time with numbness in your arms
or any lumps anywhere
please :)
-
yeah it's weird...my right arm especially is tingling and numb wakes me up and takes about an hour to get about 75 percent feeling back in it

Medford, I think you have ganglion cysts in your wrist:
http://www.emedicinehealth.com/ganglion_cyst/article_em.htm
They are liquid, and also called Bible Thumper cysts because people used to just slam them with bibles to squish them.
I had one once on my wrist, it was painful. I had no idea what it was, but it was a big bump on my wrist. I couldn't bend my wrist properly or move it in certain directions. They are easy to take care of...get to a doctor and they will drain it for you. It takes a few minutes in the doctor's office, and your wrist will recover in a few days. :)

I don't mind...I was away from the gym due to these stupid welts and my arm going numb, just easing back there now. Not nearly as much as I did when I started. But getting back to thinking more gym mindedly
-
Medford, have you seen a doctor about the "stupid welts?" They are most likely ganglion cysts, very easy to remove and recover from. Check into it. ::)

People who go see the doctor is a sign of people who take care of themselves, Medford will not be seeing any doctors.

You need to wake up and reliaze Medford is a MOD here, she should be putting up a better example for everyone especially here on a bodybuilding website. Shame on u Rip for actually going along with her crap. Even others see it. A lot of us put effort into Medford, wasted our time giving her advice and helping her. She let us down for the 1,000,000 time. It's utter bullshit. Now Medford is putting on a show so people feel sorry for her. This has got to stop. This has been going on way to long.Rip you need to stop sticking up for her and MYOB. You have done nothing to help her and are just agreeing with her crap.

Okay, but why don't you post your opinion with your original handle?

ALOT OF US? Who the fuck are YOU, with your two posts? The only reason you even have two posts is because I haven't deleted them yet.
EDIT - make that one post now. ;D
If you have actually read this thread, you would see that there is ALOT Of positive encouragement and helpful posts from me and other people on this board. Cut the shit... if you have a problem, post under your own handle. ::)
Otherwise, STFU and stop sending me nasty PMs like this one:
Hey do me a favor and MYOB. who the fuck are you. Some 105 pound lightweight who thinks she is the shit. Honey u need to do some positive to help Medford instead of sticking up for her. SO me a favor, go kiss Palumbos ass or something.

wow you can delete posts, how creative of you. The real world if full of criticism and u need to recognize that so people can improve instead of always staying at there lowest point. As for u, U need to STFU. Your just a big mouth of the boards here who cant even win the overall. U and "Carla" can crawl back into your holes. Your skin looks like a reptile. If you wanna gte brave, I know where you compete, I will bring it up with ur "soft" husband. Trust me, you dont want me to bring up that stuff Miss Rip. Shame on u for ur unrealistic points of view. Meford is still fat and u are still going along with her bullshit, by the way how is Jenny "I need a nose job" Cowan.
My prediction is you and your bold gimmick (with the cowardly original handle) won't last long here. :-\

You are a fine mod, Medford. I just wish you would get yourself back on track and post more updates in this thread.

okay so I went to the gym finally...make that two days in a row. but I let myself not go using work and the welts as an excuse, so I have a lot of lost ground to cover before I get 'improvements'

BUMP for an update from Medford. It's been more than a month! ???

Medford, TBH, all I see from you are excuses.
Excuses for NOT succeeding.
I've had a problem with my hip for a while - it hasn't stopped me. I'm sure everybody has some kind of excuse for not training, or not setting high goals, if they want to.
Most doesn't look for excuses.
But you do.
Get your ass back into training.
How about you just put in 100 workouts from today and then see where you're at when you're finished.

Yup! I'm training, doing cardio and dieting while battling cancer and sarcoidosis (of both heart and lungs).

Most of us do train while other things are going on. Whether we work long days, have a sore knee from running all the time but after a few minutes you dont feel it. Medford, you seem like a nice person so please dont take this the wrong way. I use to make the biggest excuses more than anyone. Now after 9 months of solid training and yes it was all cardio (doing weights now also). I now run 7 miles straight then up to 30 minutes on the stair master (yes the one that moves when you walk,,ya know the big isor machine). I get up at 430 to be at the gym at 5 and am there until 640. I used to think have to go to loose weight, Now I want to go and want to go all the time.. That is why I have lost 131 llbs which is half my body weight I have lost since feb 8th of this year. I was very disciplined. I bought some weight watchers cookbooks (I am now a lifetime member). I just made low fat oven fried chicken. and my daughter thought it was yummy, who knew cornflakes would make a great coating to chicken. I now weigh 130 llbs. Im shooting for 120. I fit in a size 2 gap jeans (I swear they must run big). If I can do it anyone can. I eat all my carbs before 10am. My 3 year old thinks im silly cuz i eat wheat pasta with a turkey sausage for breakfast sometimes. Medford I hope you stick to it. I mean I feel so much better, look better and care how I look. I mean medford I was a really big girl. I was 262 llbs 9 months ago. Joined weight watchers and the gym the same day and never looked back.

What a champion you are Laura. Not everyone can be a bodybuilder or fitness or figure. Medford doesn't fit any of those and probably never will as she lacks heart and dedication and drive and desire. But the sad thing is, thats probably how her life is also. Very sad. The only time her heart rate goes up is when she gets scolded by another "female", which makes me believe she likes it and uses that to make more excuses.

Get yourself some jeans from Nudie or Cheap Mondays.

After breaking my hand I made a special hook cast cast so I could still dead lift and bench.

LMAO Hedge..what the hell kind of jeans are those ( I must be old)...My daughter was with her dad this weekend so I was bored..went to mall to kill some time (I went to the gym twice already that day)..I didnt buy them because I want to loose another 10 more pounds. Besides I cant bring myself to buy $100 pair of jeans (not sure how much those jeans are). I have a little one that I am saving for college for and my retirement (only 39) but never to early to save for my old age. It has been alot of hard work and discipline. I have no debt and car paid for and paying cash for xmas presents and just have a few more things to get and Im all done. I hate to hear people say I dont have time or I wish I could. You can. Sure the first few weeks are hard but stick to it and its part of your life. Now all i need is to win the lotto so I can get a minor tummy tuck and boob job

Cheap Mondays are cheap, may not be available in all of US though.
Check out HM too, they got US stores and are nice and cheap.
Both brands have online shops as well.

Great work and determination fair lady :)
Congratulations and also thank you for being a great role model to your little girl , our next generation will have some issues , but I believe your little one will be a fine woman , just like you ;)
Wow! Have you thought about sending your story into Oxygen?

hell I wanna see her on WW TV commercials also instead of the ones whom I've seen a million times already .. She deserves it just as much if not more 8)

Thanks hedge ( we have h and m the mall near me)and w8m8..and your right w8m8..I dont want to teach my daughter good eating habits. She always says she wants to go the gym with me but she is a little young. She went to her dads gym with her and they let her walk on the treadmill. She told me all about it.
Hedge, eating less isnt everything. exercise is key (imo).
Medford, last night my right eye was really bothering me and figured my contact was the cause. I woke up this morning at 430 and could barely open it. I must have pink eye and it can barely open. I ran my 7 miles and did the stair master. But I still went. I will not make execuse ever again, there is no need to. Yesterday, the attorney I work for and I went to a local real estate agents office for lunch that we do alot of closings for, most of have bdays this month. I picked up 4 large pizza's for everyone and I got a salad. I had a half slice and ate my salad. Its just a matter of discipline. One agent asked me dont you want more pizza, I said no thanks, salad is perfect. They brought cake and they knew I wouldnt eat it and gave me a fruit salad, which was thoughtful and delicious. You can do iit Medford

I'm thinking this thread should be renamed "newmom's training log"
This Medford character is a lost cause and does not even work out or diet on anything but Budweiser and Doritos.

I agree. I have nothing against Medford, but I do believe that she would love to look and feel healthier, but I believe she lacks the strength and determination (and some people do...doesn't make them a bad person) to do so. I just wish she would either accept who she is (regardless) and be happy with it instead of trying to hype us up that she's going to do this or going to do that. Although it's nice to hear people in your corner giving you props or cheering you on...our opinion doesn't matter....it's your family and friends opinions that should really matter. :)

You know what.
I don't buy into that whole 'accept who you are' philosophy that's going around.
If you tell someone that they're beautiful on the inside or some other BS it's just being self righteous IMO.
Who are we to say that Medford can't improve?
Complacency sucks.
newmom has no better genetics for being fit than Medford.
Reason she's out of shape are she for whatever reason lacks discipline.
Doesn't make her a bad person.
But she got to fcuking snap out of it and change.
IMO, bashing won't help.
But neither will comments that tells about all the excuses she has for not getting in shape.

I agree, I know she can do it, I do think if she wants it bad enough she has to get out there and do it is all. Noone is better than anyone.

I'm not saying she shouldn't get healthy ... she definitely should eat smart and exercise. What I'm saying is that if she's going to do it, do it for herself. "We" don't matter...our opinions don't matter, because she doesn't know us. She doesn't need our approval or praise. I feel based on her numerous posts (especially in this thread) that she feels she has to act as if she's training hard to get any recognition, and in by doing so...she is psyching people out and wasting their time. I'm mostly talking about rip. Lori was coming on and giving advice and cheering her on...all while trying to get ready for her own show. Bodybuilding and competition is very time consuming and a pretty selfish sport. Your focus is and should be on you and getting your body into it's best shape for show...and Lori was taking time away from getting ready to help Medford out. Medford not taking this seriously or even trying (making all sorts of excuses) IMO was unfair to Lori. Even though I know Lori will probably say "don't worry about - no biggie" it still bothers me because I know how focused she has to be on herself.
So with that said...I remind Medford that she has all the power in the world to make a change...but if you chose to do so...do it, do it for you and no one else...and don't make excuses if you don't chose to do it...just live with it.

I agree with Laura. Medford pretends to take it seriously and hypes up others for support and advice but then never sticks to it after a lot of others gave there advice and time to help her.
-
Well thanks Laura, I appreciate that, but I really don't mind taking the time to encourage/support medford or anyone else...as long as they put the effort in on their end, which clearly medford isn't doing. It gets a little tiresome. Notice that the most activity her thread has seen in months is from all of us talking about how she keeps making excuses for herself.

I know you don't mind Lori, that's what I'm talking about. You are right there to help, even during prep...there is no need for someone to waste your precious time during prep if they aren't serious.

It's an excuse log now.
She pops in with the occasional sob story, we say 'don't worry honey' and everyone feels better about themselves.
It's a support group. :)

On a positive note, this is one of the more popular threads on the FBB board! :D
