Title: 2008 NPC Metrolina - May 10, 2008
Post by: Melvin Goodrum on March 14, 2008, 08:45:22 AM
Training is going great although pretty brutal.   I did change the tuna to tilapa and salmon.  One thing I will point out is that my quads have some pretty deep cuts in them right now so I can't wait to see the end result  The posing routine will be worth watching folks as it is 3 minutes long.  I'll have to get permission from the promoter to add the extra 1 minute and 30 seconds  but if I don't get it then I have a shortened version.

This year there will be a lot of top NPC competitors at the event so if you're looking for a great show to attend this year and want to say hey to me and Billy Guns, you better book your hotel in Charlotte NC.

Guys like Vince are the reason I don't go to local bodybuilding shows. There is always some "local" clown that enters the show year after year, looking the same if not worse, every year.To make matters even worse they guys usually bring a whole bunch of the people in the crowd with them who cheer for them.So now you have this train wreck on stage posing, while 50 of his drunk friends are in the audience cheering and encouraging him to pose even longer.
The friends who come see the show might even were his name on there shirt even, like "Team Vince",lmao
I am figuring these people must be co-workers because most of the time they are fat, drunk, and must not know a dam thing about bodybuilding because they are cheering for the worst looking guy in the show.
That like cheering for the horse at the Kentucky derby, that has 3 legs, no tail ,and is last place all the time.

This "local competitor, always has a really bizarre routine which usually includes, dancing, bad moon walking, pop locking horribly, the robot, and incorrect signature poses of past champions , that look horrible.
They really get into there posing, flexing are hard as they can, yet not a muscle or a vain shows, all you see is this smooth ass body with a ton of oil on stage.Yes they put on a ton of posing oil to make up for there lack of conditioning, some put on so much oil, they shine couldn't literally blind you.

So to all you "local "competitors, who do the same "local show' every year, please diet this time, or make some improvements.Nothing is sadder then seeing a guy do the same show for 5 straight years in the same weight class, and not gain an ounce of muscle. Then act all pissed of because he was robbed, he thinks he should have taken 5th place instead of 9th place.'I had bigger legs then that guy' or my arms are alot bigger then his",
There excuse for being smooth is I over car loaded, or I was really ripped yesterday I dint know what happened.

I stopped judging bodybuilding shows 5 years ago because of these jack asses, because after the show they want to argue with the judges about there placing  .Along with there family members and drunk colleagues. To make matters worse, they always think they are right, and they never, I mean never listen to your advice.
Good luck Vince, but trust me, I bet after seeing your pics from the show you won look any diffrent then you did 4 years ago ,smooth, bloated, bitch tits, and flat.
Look on the bright side Queen Vissy, can dress up in a cheer leader get up and cheer and scream for you, lmao

Vince, have you ever placed ahead of another competitor?

Nope, and its partially what's driving me this year.

I'm training 6 days a week and I'm doing it on a 1200 a day calorie diet.  I'm pretty moody and have eaten enough fish to grow gills.

My goal is always to win the show but also to come in better than last time.   I've never joked around on any contest or complained about not placing so I don't know what the hell GetitinNY is even talking about.  I'm not the "local competitor" and the fact is that there are people that have shown up much worse than me at a bodybuilding event.

Yes, I will have a lot of friends in the audience cheering me on....something that NY trash doesn't have.  Sorry if your life is a lonely shadow....lol.

Oh and JaeJonna, you're fat and no-one loves you.  And quite frankly, you got your ass PUNKED BY RHINO!!!!  He made you his gay bitch..... :D

These people are hilarious, I could tell you stories for days. Most of these clowns go to extremes with last minute preparations. They think that drinking red wine and taking  Niacin will bring out there vascularity, lmao. It does help but you have to be under 8% bodyfat first. They are the ones backstage giving everyone else advice about dieting and nutrition, lmao. They tell  other people there "secrets"that they use, the last week before the show. You seem them eating rice cakes with jam on them, then eating peanut butter, "trying to fill themselves out".Then they put Hot Stuff on, along with Pam, Baby oil, Thiomucase, Preparation H, what ever else they can get there fucking hands on to give them that "ripped look".Some of these clowns to were so much shit that after they get off the stage the 'towel boy' has to come out with a mop and towel to wipe off the stage.
To make matters worse this "local hero" is using holding alot of water, so he sweats like a bastard, so it makes even more oil poor off of his body on to the stage.
True story ,from about 15 years ago ,one guy who was white as a ghost, so he decided to put on a shit load of tanning stuff, last minute. This guy was Italian and looked a lil like Stallone, lol.So when he started posing, he started sweating really bad and the tanning stuff was running off of his body and face, like mad.The funny part was when it was running off of his face it looked like blood, so he looked like Stallone in Rocky 1, so everybody in the audience was sayling "YO Adrianne, lol

These people are very loud and talk to everyone who will listen and are in a great mood  until they get there placing. Then reality sets its, lol. They get last place, then they get and attitude, and tell everybody they were robbed, or the reason why there smooth is they over carb loaded. Then tell every one how shredded they were on Wednesday.
Everyone thinks they look ripped when they are standing alone in front of a mirror, at the gym..
You should hear some of the stories I hear, like I laid in bed for 3 days, and zero carbs,I started taking Dandelion root 2 weeks out,the stories are hilarious.
These people also are"kitchen chemist" always making some weird concoction or a miracle pill that will get them ripped, lmao.In the end you have this smooth guy, who cant pose, and makes an ass of himself every year.
Insanity: making the same mistake over and over again, and not learning from your past mistakes.

Vince if you are only taking in 1200 calories, you just going to get up on stage looking "skinny fat".You not going to be any leaner, just smaller, and smoother then you were before.
Vince why dont you try rotating your carbs,  or zig zagging your carbs seriously.Monday take in 50 carbs, then Tueday, maybe go 75, then Wednesday go 150, Thursday go 125, Friday, go 100 then Saturday go 50, then Sunday Crb Load 300-350 grams. This will keep your body guessing, and will keep your metabolism going.
On your load car days, keep your protein high , like at around 350-400 grams, and the high carb day drop the Protein down to 150 so your muscles can relaod with glycogen.
Now this diet isnt written in stone but atleast you will be heading in the right direction.

My contest diet approach is based off of Mike Mentzer diet routine and its working for me very well.  His approach was that a calorie is a calorie.

All the stuff you're talking about equates to about 3000 calories and the reason I am not doing it is because I did that approach the last time and it really didn't work for me quite well.  It worked better than the Metrolina event but overall I think if I cut caloric intake to a lower level I would lean out more and that's what's happenning.

I'm looking pretty sharp and for me that's all that matters.  I'll let the end result speak for itself and I'll continue to fine tune it in future events.

So basically you are overtraining and overdieting....at least your consistent!

This is ecatly why I love going to local , regional NPC shows!
You get to see some freaks, some decent physiques and some clowns.
I remember judging an NPC show in La, years ago. This one cute college age babe, was in her first fitness  contest.
She did her routine and looked a fish flopping around on the beach. She tried a flip and bam, falls right on her back. Then she tries another move and wack, she falls hard right on her belly, etc. By some act of GOD she avoided serious injury. Her MOM was near the front row and I swear she was groaning every time she flopped .

Blokes like Melvin are a gift to local bb contests. This guy has no shame and gets up there and gives the audience his best. That stuff is priceless. Will someone get his classic, trademark routine on YouTube so we can all enjoy Melvin at his very best.

Watching novices, etc., is like watching Karaoke. The really bad ones entertain the most. Don't ask me why this is true. I love it when these beginners go up to the judges after the show to find out what they have to do to improve. Sometimes the audience gets behind these beginners and for some strange reason these guys believe they are appreciated. Well, they are but not the way they think!

I truly believe Goodrum is Autistic.  There is no other answer.  And I love the line where he says he s going to ask the promoter if he can pose for n extra 1.5 minutes.  I love it.  To bad some Getbiggers can't go to the show and bring some pea-shooters and nail Goodrum while he is posing.  It might help his placing.  And Vince what gym in hell would hire you as a personal trainer.  And a better question is who the hell would hire you to train them.  Why weren't you at the Olympia?

The same friggin "local competitor' year after year, same weight class, same body, same build, the onlt thing that changes is they get really creative, and buy flashy colored posing trunks.I was judging one show and this "local competitor " decided to wear yellow posing trunks, that year, which is great. But when you wear light colored posing trunks, you should never touch your posing trunks, when you have Pro Tan on your hands, other wise it stains your posing trunks.
Well this guy must of has a bad itch or something on his buttocks, because he was wearing these yellow posing trunks, with brown Pro-Tan all over his butt, to the point it looked like he shit himself. It was truly a mess.I felt bad for the guy.Imagine getting pics back from a show, and seeing that you looked like you shit your pants, lol.
Another thing this" local competitor" does, is try to dance in there routine, when they cant dance to begin with. There is nothing worse then seeing some idiot on stage trying to do the "Cabbage Patch" ( a dance from the 1980's ) and do it incorrectly.
I dont know if these people are just drunk or stupid, lmao.I think they mistake the people laughing at them as cheering so it encourages them to pose longer, and do more silly shit, lmao.
Lastly the "local compeitor" does, is they pose really really hard, to the point they make these weird ass faces, yey no matter how hard they pose, not a vain or a muscle shows.
All you see is this smooth ass greasy monster, on stage, making a total ass of himself on stage.

Vince as far a friends go ,I have had alot of friends attend the shows I have done, because when I competed, I actually came into the show in "contest shape".Meaning at 3.5% -4% bodyfat, at every show.
My first contest I did, I weighed 210 lbs, got 4th place, the second show, I weighed 216lbs a year later, and I won the whole dam show. That was the Natural International. Then I won the Natural Worlds 3 years later.
Can anybody imagine Vinces cheering section????????????
He will have Queen Vissy, in a cheer leading get up,aswell every homo sexual and transexual from within a 500 mile radius attend the show.I have nothing against homosexual, I beleive live and let live. But you know Vince and Queen Vissy are going to put up posters at all the local bars and tell all there freinds to come support Vince. So if you are a straight man, and you are a bodybuilder, you might not want to attend this show. You might just want to "sit this one out".`

I've always found that when folks like you talk about gays in your manner indicates that you are a closet homo.  The fact that you mentioned seeing Vissy in a cheerleading outfit TWICE concludes my hypothesis that you're getting a fat chubby from thinking about seeing a man in a cheerleading outfit.

Why do you keep bringing up seeing my boyfriend in a cheerleading outfit for ???  Does it make you horny or something.... :D

In any event, you've drugged your way into your contest and you cheated in natural events as well so why even bring that up.  I've competed clean and healthy and I simply get better with time and training.

Vince I am a very happily married straight man, who has beautiful wife, and a great life.
The queen vissy in a cheer leading outfit, was just a joke, dont take it so seriously, ligthen up.
As far as my drug use, I was totally drug free up until 2002, every natural show I did polygraphed tested EVERY  athlete, and urine tested the winner in every class.
I competed on anabolics from the years 2003-2005, and was very open and honest about my anabolic use.
I haven't used an anabolic is over 2 1/2 year, and I still weigh 245lbs, and I am fairly lean, I am right around 7-8% bodyfat.
The bottom line is I believe natural bodybuilders are "real bodybuilders", because they dont just rely on drugs to build there bodies.I am not bashinh guys who use anabolics, but the reason I stopped competing is because its literally chemical warfare out there.
The person who uses the most drugs and the best drugs, will usually win.
Yes alot of its genetics, how hard you train, and how much cardio you do, and how good your diet it.
But when your only using $1500 worth of anabolics for 12 weeks, to do a national show, and your competitors are using $5000,-$10,000  worth of anabolics , the odds are against you
.I dont care how good your genetics are, or how hard you train, you cant beat anabolics.
So Vince even though I joke with you, I do respect the fact that you are natural, and continued to remain natural even though people have made fun of you and doubted you.

There is way too much anecdotal opinion about what builds muscle. Bodybuilders who lose can always claim the other guy took more gear. How would anyone know who took what and what was responsible for the gains and condition? Training must surely be the most important factor.

We used to have a local suburb contest that was for our 'gym members. Guys took gear for this show, too. Even some of the juniors. We eventually discontinued holding these shows because we didn't want to encourage steroid use.

Vince B how hard you train is a big factor, but at the national level, it is not uncommon for guys to use 40-60iu's of isulin, and go through a bottle of GH in a week.
I know alot of guys who use atleast a bottle of test a week, 2500 mg
When I did use anabolics I never used insulin, or GH, and I never went over 1000 mg of test a week even when I got up to 290lbs.
I know alot of national level athletes, because I have either know them or have endorsed them, so they are open with me about there anabolic use.

What most guys use getting ready for a show
GH, some form of testosterone, Winstrol, Anavar, Primobolan, Trenbalone,Cytodren,Clenbuteral,Arremedext, Haloteston,
,These are just the most popular, and they use all of the above if not more
some throw in Masterone, Privron, aswell as insulin, and some even go as far as use anadrol 50

Thanks, GetitOn, I know the mentality of muscleheads so don't doubt your claims. What a sad sport that this happens. What bothers me is that belief in these substances becomes accepted as knowledge and it becomes widely practiced.

We can only imagine the evolution of drugs used with each individual. If a guy competes year after year he will eventually understand what is behind the success of winners and do the same thing.

In the old days guys were afraid to use 2 Dianabol tablets for 8 to 12 weeks. Look at what this sport has become! Why would anyone fool around with powerful hormones like insulin and growth hormone just to get an edge in a bodybuilding show? It just shows what the egos of bodybuilders require because the return is small for the huge investment in drugs and risk involved.

Haha...Howie...me and Katz don't even run fitness anymore in CT...last time we had it, we had an entrant whose routine consisted of her running, as fast as she could, from one side of the stage to the other.

And back again.

And that's all she did.

That's cool and although I compete natural, I don't condemn anyone using especially since I not only used but also made and sold gear as well.  I stopped doing all of it in 2001 because the laws were changing and quite frankly there was too much fake shit floating around to deal with.  The ends never justified the means.

It is the reason I've changed my diet and training routine.  I assessed that the current diet routines were not for natural bodybuilders.

Funny thing is that I was reading today over Steve Reeves Contest pre-contest meal plan...

Breakfast- 4 raw eggs blended with milk, wheat germ and honey.
Lunch - Cottage Cheese with raisins
Dinner - Swordfish and Large Salad

That diet added up to around 1000 calories in my opinion and he weight trained harder and longer and ran on the beach for a few hours.

All I have to say about my current diet is that it is working very well and that come contest time, I'll hit my mark of 179 pounds.

Last show you kept mentioning how great you looked. Didn't work out.

1200 calories a day every day is not the way to diet to hold muscle while burning fat. You will lose a lot of muscle. You could probably right now up your carbs so your calories are around 2000 or even 2500 and you will burn more fat from an increase in your metabilism and even build muscle.

You are like the guys GetitonNY is talking about because you arn't listening to someone who knows what they are talking about.

Anyway whatever without some new 'contest' shots what are we all going to laugh at

Even funnier is how you put a legend like Steve Reeves in a topic about you.  That is about as black and white as you can get.  Do you honestly think if you follow the diet of Steve Reeves you will look anything like him.  Most blacks have great genetics.  you were dealt a fucked up hand when you born.  You should learn to live with it instead of trying to be something you will no way in the world ever achieve.  You may have entered a couple BB contests but you are far, far, and even farther from being a bodybuilder.  Do you even understand that you lessen the quality of the BB show when you enter.  It immediately turns into a farce and joke.  i can't believe a promoter would actually let you enter a contest.  I may look like shit now but at least I know it, you on the other hand think you look good enough to actually compare yourself to guys who actually train with weights and diet.  You are NOT a Bodybuilder when are you going to realize that.  And don't put Steve Reeves name in a topic about you.  It really fucks up things.

Nice try Melvin.  You never showed up at the Arnold.  If you did, I am sure you would have gotten your ass kicked by a plethora of people whom you have talked shit to and then backed down.  Besides, I dont think your 1986 Grand Am could have even made the drive.

Regarding the web site.....nice try again.  His shit is so over played.  Besides, you owned yourself with that one.  You try and bash my profession yet your business plan has a chiro investor/partner, no?  You have used chiropractic when you fell UP the stairs.  And lastly, you should read what he says about your whole metaphysics doctorate.

Goodrum...  you've never gotten yourself into true contest shape.  Unless you're doing something substantially different than what you've done in the past, you'll just make a fool of yourself again.  Why not hire a trainer that knows what he's doing to help you?

He needs a 24/7 trainer that controls every last morsel of food he puts in his mouth. The Mentzer diet is retarded but there's no way he's that low on calories or he'd be at least somewhat lean at contest time.
