Title: Saw Van Halen Concert last night - VIDEO PAGE 4
Post by: tjschoenborn on April 29, 2008, 08:13:10 AM
They were Great!
Took my son who is 11 to it. Was his first concert and he loved it! I was worried with them being older it would suck but was as good if not better then when i saw them years ago!
They play about 2 1/2 hrs nonstop! Eddies kid played bass and was pretty good, Eddie is an amazing guitar player! And Alex was also great! David lee Roth has not slowed down at all.

Great concert, if you get the chance to see them, do.

Eddie seemed healthy and was pretty active during the show, he had a 10 min solo that was really cool. Dude can make sounds with a guitar I never heard before.

What happened? Fatherhood!
I was really cool to be able to take Jake to his first concert. He plays guitar hero all the time so at 11 yrs old has a real taste for older rock.

And yes I hold Crystal's purse! LOL

ahhh....van halen....

too bad they're just a shadow of what they used to be...exact same show every night of the tour, not just the same songs in the same order but all of the banter and EVERYTHING that they do is totally planned out.  There was a time when VH was a great spontaneous rock band....both with Sam and with dave but since Eddie flipped the fuck out in 1996 they've never been the same.

it's a shame really...too bad ed is a total loon these days.

They may have been more crazy and spontaneous back in the day but as far as the music I think they play better now as they are not as stoned as they use to be.

They may have been more crazy and spontaneous back in the day but as far as the music I think they play better now as they are not as stoned as they use to be.

VH today is not half the band it was in it's prime with either dave or sammy.  I've got hundreds of boots, ed's playing has been terrible for 90% of this tour compared to what he used to be able to do.  He's just off.  I've heard that the shows he's done since the tour has picked up have been really good but for the most part he's been way off and the extended solo spot he does has been terrible.  Even if you can't stand the stuff they did with Sammy go watch clips from Live without a net on youtube or the Toronto 95 PPV special and watch Ed play...he's just tearin it up back then...

Dave is Dave, he's doing a good job but what made dave special was his ability to tak to the audience, he was more of a personality than a "great singer" now he's not even allowed to do that cause ed and al call all the shots.

wolfie is servicable as a bassist but from what I hear there's alot of people who dont' even think he's really playing, rumor is alot of the bass lines are being pumped in.  I don't know if this is true or not but I have seen some pretty wierd video's.....

it's in Dave's best interest to keep his mouth shut.  what's he done in the last 10 years before this?  Diamond Dave could be the worst CD in the history of music and don't even talk about his no holds BBQ DVD.....that guy is a fruit.  It's simple, Dave sees this as his last shot at glory, he knows he blew it when he left in 86 and he needs one last shot so he'll put up with Ed and Al's bullshit...Sammy and Mike wouldn't, that's why this tour is happening.  Sammy has money coming out of his ass since he sold part of his tequilla company for 85 million bucks..he doesn't need to put up with Ed anymroe so they got Dave on baord to kick around.

wait until this tour is over...dave is gonna have a field day.

Ed's a nut, really......if you've followed them like I have you'd see it, the guy is a freakin kook.

I've seen VH 3 times on this tour and can definately say it's not the same thing night after night. All 3 shows did have most of the same songs but in different orders. Even Eddie's solos are different. I was rather impressed with how good the shows were. I wasn't expecting much from Diamond Dave and am a Sammy-VH fan more than Dave. Wolfgang is good but he's not Michael Anthony. Would be nice to have seen the original VH but it is what it is......now just waiting til August to the the Boss and The E Street bands final tour together

I ain't saying your lying and maybe I'm wrong but I've read a ton of reviews and the setlist is pretty much the exact same night after night, same songs, same order and from what i understand pretty much the same thing happens at the same time-dave brings out some big inflatable microphone or something  ::)

the only reason ed's solo's are different is cause he can't remember what he's supposed to be playing anymore :-\

here's the bottom line...vh is a shadow of what they were and what they are capable of being, try to find the bootleg of the atlanta show from the 04 tour, it is the most embarrasing conceert I've ever heard in my life and not because of Sammy or Mike or Alex...eddie is a complete mess.  I've heard he's been off and on, one show he's amazing the next he's waaayyyy off.

Ed flipped out years ago and he's never recovered and niether has the band.  What they've done to Mike is disqusting.

all the good times died the day Ed Lefler passed away, that was the start of the destruction of Van Halen, if Lefler was still alive this band would be no where near the mess it is today.

Yes i did.

I use to go to a lot of concert when i was young! (KISS, Billy Squire, Rush, VH, Boston, Stones, Heart, Ozzy...) I really liked the Vh concert, maybe it was because seeing the excitement on Jakes face of seeing his first concert of a band he loves. But anyway if they lost a step i did not notice or care, as Jake and I had a blast!

No your right Eddies solo spot is nowhere near Live Without A Net but it supposed to be abbreviated. He has said he really didnt want to do one at all but Al talked him into it.
As for oldschool VH, to a fckn T! Eddie kicked ass and nailed Little Dreamer. I have bootlegs of this tune from 75/76. That's long damn time to remember a song!

what I hear is from certified "vh geeks" and I have seen many clips of the shows I just didn't want to shell out 150 bucks to go see them.

I think wolfie is probably a very talented kid but I've seen video that is really "odd" looking when you watch his hands and listen to what is actually coming over the speakers but I'm not a bass player so I can't say for sure, maybe he is playing...part of me believes he is but again so many people point out so many odd things and I don't put anything past Ed these days...he's a kook.

I've seen a buch of vids of Ed's solo spot and some were horrible some were ok but he's fallen off so drastically...just his overall style of playing, it's almost amazing how much he's lost.

Interesting. As you were the first to *hunt me down* and quote me, initially, I'd say that you are the board fiend.

what do you hope to accomplish by following me around like this?  How long have you been on the board?  I've had run ins with guys for years and trust me....you're not very good at trying to get me going.  it's almost funny at this point that you won't leave me alone.  Even if you got over on me what do you think I'm gonna do?  stop posting?  why?  I don't care what you say about anything....you've only got like 700 posts and how many of those are stalking me from thread to thread?

all you do is make me  ::) ::) ::)

what do you hope to accomplish by following me around like this?  How long have you been on the board?  I've had run ins with guys for years and trust me....you're not very good at trying to get me going.  it's almost funny at this point that you won't leave me alone.  Even if you got over on me what do you think I'm gonna do?  stop posting?  why?  I don't care what you say about anything....you've only got like 700 posts and how many of those are stalking me from thread to thread?

all you do is make me  ::) ::) ::)
Well, to me, given your increasingly aggressive postal tone, I'd say that you are already becoming vexed.
Concerning your "follwing about the board issue." Again i make reference to my above post-you initially stalked me and decided to direct at me, a big 6 member, derogatory remarks, despite no prior interaction between us. Hence, you are the one doing the following.
With regard to my postal count. As i have mentioned before, it is postal quality, not quantity that counts. You more than anyone, who fills the board with hot air, should know that.
Finally, I'd consider attending some math and English classes if i were you. My postal count is in the late 580's (at the time of writing), not 700. Thus, you cannot either:
a) Read. or
b) Interpret numbers.

lol,

it was a guess.....you're a tool, bottom line.

I never "stalked you"  all I did was ask why anyone would consider you a member of the "getbig 6" and you had no answer so now you follow me around which is pathetic.

what exactly makes you a member of the "big 6" again?

oh, yeah....trust me I haven't been aggressive with you in the least, why would I?  It's a BB board and it's not worth my effort to get aggresive with you.  I ask why you're qualified and you have no answer so you start throwing around equations for me to answer...and telling me your life story.

pathetic.

Even more aggressive now shallow al?? You really need to calm down a little. Roid rage perhaps?
Anyway, the reason why I am an established member of the exclusive getbig Big6 club? Well, the big 6, *appeared* to save this forum, and enable 11th tier posters like yourself to continue to enjoy the board, and of course, interact with the members, as you are doing now, for free. The selection process to form it's members was just a natural gathering/conglomeration of the boards best posters, in terms of overall knowledge of the *sport,* together with our obvious wisdom of everything in general. On the basis of this criteria, the natural (and only) posters worthy of this then newly formed big 6 were Howie, 240, mars, gh15, donkey and myself. Personally, you have a lot to thank me and the other big 6 members for. Essentially, without us, this board sinks more quickly that a canoe with a big hole in it. That is simple fact.
Finally, i again address your increasingly aggressive respones. Calm down Shallow al, you really must learn to calm down.

Your post's enthral me with great amusement.
It is the ever present sign of a man who is lacking in the genitalia department, where he has to use big words, even though he has no idea of the meaning, to make up for what he has down stairs, or more accurately in your case, does not have.

I am aware of the meaning of the vocabulary that I use. Perhaps you should have a dictionary handy when you read my posts, in the event that *big* words (for you) such as "me, see, use, it, can" etc appear, and you struggle to decipher there meaning.
Finally, form the wording of your response, are you implying that I am a female poster?

Perhaps it's a big clitoris, perhaps  it's a small penis.

Either way, I feel sorry for you  :(

I shall give you a reprieve from causing you embarassment by exposing your intellectual short comings for one night.

But we shall duel again.

If you are still up, what part of NZ do you live in, the north or south island? I've seen that places in southland (on the s.island) has cheap housing.

Yes, nutter imbreeders are horrendous. the type that a tourist could find himself in the wrong place and get eaten or something. Stranger things have happend. Is wellington okay? Modern technology, nightlife, gyms etc? Are the house prices high, with respect to the wages?

Best night life in the country.. courtenay place has quite the reputation  :o
Arts capital of nz also, with numerous events yearly, if you are that way inclined.
About 5 or 6 good gyms, all reasonably priced.
House prices are ridiculous, although there has been a dip in the market recently and there is a school of thought that within a year or two, there will be houses going at bargain prices.

I'm not the most arty kind of guy, I must admit.
Scary for you, I am considering applying for residency there. Only considering, nothing definite, and would not be for a few years if i did.  Like most places in the world, maths teachers are in short supply, but with rising house prices, they can't get a place on their own wage. I've heard renting is quite cheap over there though?
Do you get good weather in wellington? What are the NZ women like, cold like the brits or easier to score with?

so point me towards one of your great posts so I can witness what your talking about.  240's a good guy, I've been on the boards for years and have never had a run in with him, mars and I are cool, gh15...don't agree with some things he says but have never had a run in with him and I dont' have an issue with donkey kong that I know of.  I dont' really know howie, all those guys seem to contribute to the board but you pretty much do nothing but brag about how smart you are...then you don't back it up :-\

you teach math...great.  good for you, what does that have to do with posting on a BB board?  You're life must lack anything of substance because you feel the need to justify your existance on a BB board which is actually pretty sad.

I don't get how you think I'm being aggresive...I mean really, you've run out of ammo so quick you have to resort to that?

you practically posted your life story when I questioned you before and posted all your credentials in the teaching field, why would you feel you have to justify your existance to me?

I'm an 11th tier poster?  wow, how will I live with myself?  Go over to the training journal section, I haven't touched my journal in weeks and it has how many views?  over 7,000 or something like that...not bad for an 11th tier guy.

The women! My word.... Fact: New Zealand has the most permiscous women in the world! World average is something like 6 sexual partners a lifetime, New Zealand girls, 24. I have lost many amount of self respect for myself with the way I have used many a female for sex... however it has been revealed that they find being sexually active empowering. fair play to them i say.

Renting is cheap. you'll get a good deal anywhere in the city.
Climate wise... 20-27 in summer. 5-10 in winter.

Now, let us rewind the tape a little, shallow al. Who was it that previously commented on the *length* of my posts whilst trying to justify myself? I wonder who (see our first exchanges)?
I do not (using your own words) "brag" about how smart i am. i do not feel that I present that persona and I do not feel that I act in any sort of arrogant manner.
As i have mentioned before, it was a moral duty to *join* the big6, and hence save a rapidly sinking ship. As a general all round good guy, it is my nature to act as a saviour.
Finally, your replies are becoming ever more dark and aggressive in tone. Shallow al, it is only an internet bodybuilding board, there is no need to become irate to the extreme whilst posting on it. My advice to you would be to take a good few deep breaths and clarity will cascade throughout your being.
As a stress reliever, perhaps you could return to self-hitting your training journal to generate more (alledged) hits. Hey, a few thousand more and you may be promoted to the 10th tier. However, if you carry on in your current aggressive manner you could find yourself demoted.
Good old shallow al hey?

well you still haven't answered the question or pointed me in a direction where I can "witness you're great posts"

I questioned you in a thread earlier this week, that thread is pretty much gone from the main page I think-I didn't check the entire page-you suddenly appeared in this thread attacking me for no reason, when i ask you to justify your position all you can do is say I'm being "aggresive"...lol.

Evidence of great posts:See any post that I have produced. They are full of deeper meaning that someone with your low IQ could not even begin to unravel.
I am by no means like an incarnation of the names that you mentioned (squadfather et al), but, as an official member of the big 6, i am something that you will never be-a first rater.
Finally, i comment on your aggressive nature as that is what is being presented before me. i can only comment on the evidence that i have at hand. Your feeble and childish displays during our initial encounter did not display aggression, just idiocy that soon descended into surrender when you ran away at the thought of engaging in dispute with two getbig big6 members. Your behaviour is now aggressive. Nice to see that i am influencing you so much.

It's an easy question...where's one of your stellar posts?

of course you would quote one of VH's cheesiest songs.  You're like an autistic kid or something, you're just focused on me so much, did I really offend you that bad? Have you even left your computer today or are you just hitting the refresh button waiting for me to reply.

EVHalen was only considered good as he introduced to the masses the technique of "tapping." Like you and this board, he is just hot air. The VH albums typically had the odd good tune, with the majority being fillers.
Van halen, as a guitar player died with the advent of the neo-classical fusion of Malmsteen, Toney Macalpine, Paul Gilbert (racer X, wnet on to Mr. Big), Vinnie moore etc, most of whom were discovered by a Mike varney (if you are aware of this era, shallow al).

1) White boards are used thesedays, not chalk/blackboards.
2) You have anger management issues. You cannot control your temper and you become ever more aggressive and bitter with each new *writing.*
3) You stalk me and I can not help but conclude that, in some weird, way, due to my position amongst the elite, you have become an obsessive fanatic about me. Steady on now, shallow al. I would say that you have certain issues that you need to address.
It is only a board shallow al, albeit it one that I grace.

what issues do you believe I have?  I was minding my own business in this thread and poof!  there you are with the same lame shit over and over again.

why would you think I'm losing my temper?  just saying it won't make it true, just like saying your a member of the "big 6" won't make that true.

Milwaukee
Ed's solo was great! Everyone seemed to be at thier best! I am no expert at this so if he missed a note or two i would have never known.

read some reviews...I see Dave did the old "I forgot the fucking words" ::)

it was funny when he did it at the US fest back in 83 but now it's just contrived and seems cheesey.

As I have mentioned in the past, this is the area of the *average or below average* ( a category that you fall into) getbigger that amuses me the most. You clearly must see me as the superior being that I am, hence your need to thoroughly dissect each part of my glorious writtings, in the search for errors. I have also explained before, that, despite the fact that I (and the other big6 members) may seem infallable, we are not.

I am a mathematician, not an English whizz. However, as you can see, my construction of sentences, punctuation and vocabulary are, like many things about me, first class.
(my grammar can occasionally be a little weak, too. See I am a superior, but fundamentally honest guy)

Calculus is a beautiful subject.
Given your good grade, differentiate, using the product rule:

sin(4x^2)cot(2X), (differentiating with respect to X)

(Note: The notation X^2 reads as:X raised to the power of 2, IE, X squared)

You may wish to recall that cot()=1/tan(), and that we can express tan() as sin()/cos()

The answer to the queston that you could not solve is:

1/sin(2x)[8xcos(4x^2)cos2x-{2sin(4x^2)/sin2x}]

I made use, whilst differentiating via the quotient rule 1/cot2x=cos2x/sin2x, of the identity: sin^2()+cos^2()=1

Better luck next time.

yeah, ed's a kook these days.  I've read a few people think he's got some wierd multiple personality disorder or something, I don't know about that.  what I do know is the eddie we see today is alot different than than the eddie I knew 78-93ish, he started to change in 95 and really flipped out in 96, the band has never recovered.  not even close.

sammy still puts out decent stuff from time to time but it ain't VH.

I just listened to dave's last solo album "diamond dave" the other day....it could be the worst piece of crap ever recorded, makes VHIII sound like the Beatles White Album :-\

I  still have a soft spot for eddie,he still is a legend,i watched live without a net dvd, yeah thats a good spontaneous show, and wicked non stop guitar solo...

As spontaneous as Van Halen can be. Isn't that the one where Michael Anthoney does his obligatory beer drinking? Yawn. Just like the band.

have you ever seen the 95 toronto PPV?  awsome show, beginning to end.  the RHRN DVD isn't as good, too jumpy for me but the performance is good as far as audio quality.

I haven't listened to that song in ages....nobody rules these streets at night but me...the atomic punk!!!  I think in the old days Dave and Mike used to share lead vocals on this, I'll have to go back and check sometime.

yeah, I'll agree with that but I think Dave was running his course...his whole sctick would have gotten old if he had stuck around..who knows?  Ed was still pumping out great music up until 95, I'm sure Dave could have worked with alot of it but there was just too much tension.  Sammy came in at the perfect time and did a great job IMO, nobody has ever changed lead singers and done as well as VH-I don't count AC-DC cause Bon Scott died...lots of othr bands have tried and failed.  Sam and Ed were a great team when everything was going good....so many good songs by both lead singers...too bad they wasted the last 10 years.

I've seen ed like 10 times live and I never thought he sounded bad with a wireless...I don't get where he's coming from with that.

With the ears, it's REALLY hard to tell what someone can have going on in their head.
Eric Johnson can hear batteries lose their charge in his pedals...so he swaps them out every couple songs when recording. Beethoven, Bach and Mozart could write huge orchestral pieces in their heads, without having an instrument in front of them. They just heard the sound(s) in their head and wrote it down, knowing how it would harmonize with the other pieces and what those pieces were playing.
I wouldn't doubt Ed can hear a difference. Sometimes cords to the amp are made from a economy material, and the cord tends to make your tone sound really "tinny" or thin. I can hear the difference in some- if I'm paying attention and actually care. I'm sure Ed has some monster ears outside that kook brain of his, and personally I think playing with a cord is better.

What matters more, the playing or the entertainment of it all? (This is a trick question...many people will trip themselves up answering it!)

lots of rumors are going around that ed is actually loosing his hearing, maybe that has something to do with it.  Ed's tone in 91, 93 and 95 was great IMO, I didn't see him in 98 but I heard a ton of boots and it seemed good to me.  In 04 he used a cord but some of the boots I've heard sound terrible, not just playing but on a sinic level...

oh, well....it's not like he cares what I think about his cord :-\

I did like it alot more when he would move around onstage like in the Live without a net vid, or even the toronto PPV, in 04 he didn't get around as much cause of the cord.
Title: Re: Saw Van Halen Concert last night - VIDEO PAGE 4

Albert Collins, Rod Piazza, and George Smith all got around with cords. They had people feed the cord while they were walking through the clubs playing as the people looked on. I'm sure Eddie wouldn't have too much trouble finding someone to do the same.

Tone, the tone you heard in the years you stated, could have been what Eddie was going for. Then changed his direction in sound. I know he used to use that Mighty Mite strat, or was it a Kramer (both?)? Then had the guitar that Peavey made for him, right? I'm not the expert on EVH you are! ;) But that change in guitar could not have really changed his tone, but more or less the direction he wanted to go towards. An opportunity really, to get out of the same routine- no matter how good it was/is.
Wes Montgomery had a similar problem playing octaves, Hendrix burning his guitar, and the Who destroying their equipment.
When life starts imitating art, it's a scary thing. :-\

in the early days ed made his own guitars, in 86-88 he played a Kramer guitar and used his old marshal amp, in 91 he experimented with a saldano amp, he did a couple of appearances at NAMM with it-I just know the names, don't really know what they mean.  In 91-93 ed played a music man EVH model and used a peavy 5150 amp, that sounded great...too bad ed got caught screwing the owner of music man's wife so in 95 he hooked up with peavey to design the wolfgang, basically it looked pretty much like the musicman but it had a "drop d tuner" installed in it, ed also came out with a 5150 II amp and he used the old kramer 5150 and marshal amp on a couple of tunes on balance-I know he used it for aftershock (great song).  The amp was rebuitl by a guy in holland...can't remember his name....

in 04 Ed switched to charvel's which he would paint up and then they would sell them so if you look at pics he's playing a ton of different guitars during that tour, now I think he plays charvel on this tour..,.I'd have to double check that so don't quote me on it.

in the early days when ed built his own guitar I think he used charvel's and put humbuckers in them if that makes sense (I really only know this stuff from reading interviews, I don't know anything about guitars), in fact charvel wanted ed to endorse them, he didnt' even though he used the bodies and maybe the necks...there's pics of ed taken where he put tape over the charvel on the headstock cause he was pissed at them for running ads with his name....

let's see...ed's played a stienberg guitar-dont' know if that's the actual name but he used it on summer nights and get up, it's got a trans-trem on it, he's also played a ripley whcih is a stereo guitar (Top Jimmy and From Afar from vh III).

that's what i knwo about ed's gear, in 04 and on this tour he's using a 5150 II amp I think....David Cook from american idol had a EVH 5150 amp setup on monday....yes i'm that much of a geek that I noticed that.

ed used a wireless at least since 86, don't know about the previous tours, I'd have to chekc but I'd guess he was using one since at least 82.

Let me as a guitarist help you out here.
Back in the day Eddie had two very valuable Gibson 335's. He loved the tone but couldnt stand the body. He did purchase a Charvel body and a neck from Lynn Ellsworth.
Routing out the bridge pickup he stuck a humbucker in where the single coil used to be. Thus we all now can have a Strat body guitar with a humbucker in the bridge position.
Would someone have eventually gone there? Probably but it was Eddies innovation that got us there. He wanted the sound of a Les Paul type guitar in a Strat body. Neccessity is the mother of invention.
I'm not  100% sure but I think the "shark" guitar was a Gibson Explorer. Yes Ibanez makes them as well. Claims he took a chainsaw to it but I have a large blown up close poster of that guitar and you can see he drilled then cut. Doesnt matter. Anyway he removed the pick gaurd and gave it a paint job. Never recorded on it. Wait, he did record on it. Runnin W/The Devil was recorded on that guitar before he butchered it up.
After he butchered it he claimed the sound was ruined.
He's an ignima for sure. An oddball at best socially. Honestly I doubt he's from this Earth sometimes.
Once in Lakeland Fl on the 5150 tour with Sammy I was 4 rows back and watched the man basically re learn a song and playing it elsewhere on the guitar due to two strings breaking thus throwing most of the others out. That's an understatement of fretboard knowledge....

good info, it's harder for me to talk about the guitar stuff just because I don't play so I know the terms but not really what alot of it means-I have no idea what  a humbucker pick up is compared to a regular pick up.  I do know alot about ed's equipment but I have to sit down and really think about it and it's more along the lines of what guitars and amps he used on what songs, I know the history of the things he did but again it's harder for me to really nail that stuff.

if you want to talk about albums, songs, demo's or the who's, what's, where's and when's then I can go for days :D

wulitzer electric piano through eddie's old marshall....cool song.

Biggest getbig idiot? Well, that is open to debate, but I bet that natural (aka shallow) al would attain a few votes.

you think so?  funny let's look at you for a sec:

-you've now been stalking me for days, attacking me for no reason
-you've made gay advances towards me
-you're a tool
-you know nothing about BB yet post on getbig
-you've never scored with a girl
-your life revolves around proving your worth to the world on a BB message board by posting all of your accomplishments
-you latched onto guys like donkey kong and mars
-your posts are moronic and it's the same drivel over and over again

either your a gimmick or a total tool...either way your a zero.

why don't we do this:

stop following me around and I'll pretend you don't exist, that way we'll just stay out of each others way cause these little exchanges are boring as hell for everyone.

this is probably one of my favorite dave lyrics....but I think glenn ballard actually wrote them, I could be wrong:

I know what your thinking
what your thinking is easy to see

I know what your dreaming
I've had those same dreams

reaching for the beat again (?)
looking for a sign
it was right here all the time, time, time

I am you and you are me

do you believe?
dont' ya trust me?
me wise magic

and then those great backing vocals.....just awsome.

mine all mine by sammy is pretty damn cool as well.

Forgive me father
For I have sinned
I've been through hell and back again
Shook hands with the devil
Looked him in the eye
Looked like a long lost friend
Anything you want
Any dirty deeds
He's got everything
Except what I really need
Keepin' me temporarily satisfied
But not one thing I tried
Filled me up inside
Or felt like mine
Mine, all mine
Yeah, the search goes on
The more I look
My world keeps getting smaller
Staring at the sun
Searchin' for the light
Almost ended up blinded
Some only see
What they want to see
Claiming victory
Oh, but that's not me
Give me truth
Give me something real
I just want to feel
Like it's
Mine, all mine
Oh really mine, all mine
Come on give me something
Something that's mine, all mine, all mine
Mine, all mine
All the words on the wall
Look the same in the mirror
Every riddle
Every clue
You got allah in the east
You got jesus in the west
Christ, what's a man to do?
They'll find a cure for anything
Just kill the pain
Numb my brain
We see a man
Speaking the word of god
Provin' to be a fraud
His own church applauds
Stop lookin' out
Start lookin' in
Be your own best friend
Stand up and say
Hey! this is mine
All mine, all mine, all mine
Baby, you got something
And I got something
And it's mine, all mine, all mine
Mine, all mine
Mine, all mine
Yes, I'm searching
Mine, all mine
Got to have it
Mine, all mine
Mine, all mine

They were Great!
Took my son who is 11 to it. Was his first concert and he loved it! I was worried with them being older it would suck but was as good if not better then when i saw them years ago!
They play about 2 1/2 hrs nonstop! Eddies kid played bass and was pretty good, Eddie is an amazing guitar player! And Alex was also great! David lee Roth has not slowed down at all.

Great concert, if you get the chance to see them, do.

They all grew up where I'm from (Pasadena) so in high school we used to go to all the backyard parties where they would play.....and party. But the real question were they better than GARTH??? I took my 10 year old who is a Garth fanatic as I am and we had a blast........best concert I've ever been too and that includes Zepplin in 1980.

Yep, those too. Hey Lisa, have you ever been to First Cabin on Huntington Dr.? Michael Anthoney sits in once in a while with "The Priests of Love" sometimes. He's also has big pic of him in Peppers Mexican restaurant (we were there Sunday...one of my favorite places ;D)

In all honesty, probably not... In his genre he is the icon right now and he's well known outside of it.

GNR could have been that big, but a certain Mr. Rose was too busy being a prima donna.

wulitzer electric piano through eddie's old marshall....cool song.

you think so?  funny let's look at you for a sec:

Shallow al, i shall address your ludicrous surmises and idiotic comments in no particular order.
First, may we recall the fact that it was yourself that initially (to use your words) "hunted me down," and decided to undertake an attack on my person and supreme postal ability. The fact that a certain amount of exchanges have indeed occurred since your initial attack does not constitute the ridiculous allegation of board stalking. Clearly you must have been intellectually intimidated by me in the first case, hence your initial personal assault. Moreover, I address the fact by poseing the question:Would these exchanges be currently occurring if we subtract your initial attack? I think that we both are aware of the answer to that question.
Second, with regard to the so-called "hitting upon you." Indeed, I have made the occasional comment on the belief that you may have possessed a sense of humour and do not take yourself too seriously. Clearly I am wrong on both counts. Furthermore, your odd reaction to this aforementioned banter raises the question in my mind that perhaps you are uncomfortable with your sexuality and perhaps you may have "something to tell the board" perhaps? My reasoning concerning this matter is buttressed by the fact that you often make reference to any success that I may have (and have) with members of the opposite sex. This indicates that you may indeed be covering up your true sexuality by constantly feeling the need to address females and simultaneously, convince yourself that you have no "problems," whilst keeping the board *off scent* of the truth. As stated, this is an hypothesis, but one in which seems to be bolstered by evidence.
Next, I am an authority on the *sport* of bodybuilding, as can be deduced from a sample of my previous posts concerning the subject. This answer can also encompass your next allegation, that that I have allegedly "latched on" to the posters donkeykong and mars. Indeed, the aforementioned posters are members of the getbig big6 and by definition we are all especially skilled in the area of bodybuilding knowledge and overall wisdom of life in general. I have by no means "latched on" to the said posters;we were chosen for this task.
Finally, with regard to my life "revolving around a bodybuilding internet board," the most succinct answer to that I can provide is: no it does not. I suppose that I derive a certain amount of pleasure performing my role (together with the other big6 members) of being ambassadors of the forum, and it does bring a wry smile to my face when seeing your respones become ever more aggressive and desperate in their context. However, those points do not in any way indicate that my life "revolves around the board." Remember shallow al, you have over 6000 posts. Now, who's life did you say revolves around a bodybuilding board??

Hmm, al. I like a lot of the songs and Sammy seems like a cool guy, but I gotta go with the Diamond Dave era. So over the top and raunchy, less ballady and 'mass-marketed.' I'm old(er) and I can still remember the summer when 1984 came out...it was pumping out of every car window and everyone had those huge ghetto blasters throwing the songs out over the waterfront. The sun was shining, the girls were unsiliconed and I was still unjaded. It was glorious.  :)

Jeeez. My post was more a nod to nostalgia than studied rock criticism -ie. 1984 is not a seminal album but is still played today and I have fond memories of it. But, I suppose, as usual, the point of your post was - yet again - to show everybody how 'intelligent' you are and how stupid we are. Man, your gimmick is enervating.

On the contrary. My post was just my opinion. The album, 1984, as per Van Halen in general is hugely overrated.

VH during the Sammy years had alot of good rockin songs.  Ed was really into keyboards during the early Hagar years and the record company ran with that, VH did a total of 8 keyboard songs when Hagar was in the band and all of them were pretty much released as singles. So instead of hearing some of the great rock songs they did like Judgement Day, 5150, Seventh Seal and so on people got to hear Feels so Good and Love Walks In.  I like the keyboard stuff cause it shows a different side to the band and it made them very popular and sold alot of records but I wouldn't have minded hearing the rockin songs on the radio.

Wow. You really know your VH. When I think back, I really like the first 3 albums, especially the first - a real rock declaration! Looking back at the later VH albums, and the '80's in general, too many groups went MOR to the point of inanity - ZZTop took that that to its apogee when they turned their cool Tres Hombres Texas blues into arena robot rock.  :-X

thanks.

the thing with van halen and hagar is this:  Sammy always did ballady songs when he was a solo artist, not so much cause he was using them to just sell records he just did them.  Ed was really into keyboards when sammy joined.  Dave didn't really dig the keyboard stuff and Sammy didn't have a problem with them.  Warner bros really jumped on the keyboard orientated stuff and it was huge at the time.  Why Can't this be love, Dreams, Jump, I'll Wait, Love Walks in, When it's love and the rest were all huge songs and sold tons of records for the band.  If you notice as time went on Ed kinda moved away from the keyboards-FUCK only had one song (even though 2 more were recorded for the record-The Wish and....I think the name of the other one was You never know but i could be wrong)...anyway I think if Dave would have let Ed play keys earlier it would have been more spread out and not so concentrated in the Sammy years.

the story goes that ed started on piano, he was so good he won like 3 state titles in cali and he couldn't read a note of music, he just watched his instructors hands and did what he did.

threre are tons of good rockin songs from the hagar years but that era isn't really associated with those by the general public, listen to a song like judgement day or 5150...those are just great songs.
