The rule is pretty simple.

How does announcing you are gay compromise one`s ability to carry out their duties as a soldier? Does he all of a sudden become ineffective?
Also, what happens if you are gay in the military and someone else OUTS you?
-
what is with all your gay threads? no pun intended

Nobody in the military wants to be showering with homosexuals.

Aren't they showering with them already?

LOL I want to go take a shower with the women in the womens locker room at my gym are you in favor of that? I would like to be quartered with a bunch of females and be able to see them walk around in their underwear change clothes etc do you support my right for that? I do believe i would get arrested for that gays should not get preferential treatment.

I want to be able to change in the female locker room and smell all the fishy snatch in the air!
Are you alright with this?

I could care less... What someone does sexually in their bedroom should not define them as a person..
-
Nobody in the military wants to be showering with homosexuals.
So if you shower in a open room with a gay dude, hes going to put a knife to your throat and force you to have sex with him? Or will he prob shower like he normally does and go about his day?
-
Yes.
so what should we do?
-

or will he have to oppurtunity to check out ppl who he might find sexual attractive naked? ::) you really are fuking ignorant if you see a difference in that and me showering with women against their will which im sure you wouldnt approve of.
-
Dude's Korean...no sympathy... ;D

Just because you wouldn't have any problems showering with gays doesn't mean others would like it.
There are just times when not knowing is better. Also, Clinton failed us and the military miserably with this policy. No official policy, while holding everyone to the same conduct standards, would have been better.
-
Nobody in the military wants to be showering with homosexuals.
Exactly, in the military you are in close close contact 24 hours with your fellow armed men.
If you feel uncomfortable and suspect all sorts of motives that make you unease it affect your performance.
Anyone here who had a gay person work closely with them knows how it feels, and if some of the moron posters here don't understand it than just think of it as working/serving with a really ugly & fat bitch that you need to shower with and be in close personal contact against your will everyday and all day long.
-
I want to be able to change in the female locker room and smell all the fishy snatch in the air!
Are you alright with this?
You are attempting to project a link between your desire for self arousal and sexual objectification with the concept of a gay man serving in the military.
You failed. Try again when you can actually formulate a reason or argument with some substance behind it.
It's a real pathetic stretch when the only argument you can come up with is dishonoring a citizens desire to serve his country by attempting to dilute his service from patriotism down to just a desire to share the showers with other men.
If that were the case, you wouldn't have gays wanting to serve the military, they would just buy memberships at the local Y.
-

{LOL} Man are you ever twisted? How the heck is what gays in the military are experiencing preferential treatment?
They are forced to hide who they are, ...while non gays are permitted to shout their proclivities from the rooftops.
If anything, it is non-gays who receive preferential treatment, ...unless of course you consider being fired and dishonourably discharged a status to be covetted?
And your argument is doubly stupid because they are already showering in the same locker rooms as non gays. ::)
-
I like how all the talking points in regards to anything "anti-gay" always seem to come down to the base element. Gay sex.
Rather than actually define merits or valid issues with why gays can't serve their country as well as any straight man, they go with the standard fall back line rooted in "gay sex and showers" etc..
Seems they are more concerned with gay sex than actual gay men are.
-

I applaud you all for pointing out the errors in their logic. Astounding work!

So if you shower in a open room with a gay dude, hes going to put a knife to your throat and force you to have sex with him? Or will he prob shower like he normally does and go about his day?
I doubt it, ...gay men are notorious for their taste?
I had a guy use that same argument a couple of weeks ago, he was going on and on about how "gays shouldn't be allowed to marry because what if one of 'them' wanted him." It was all I could do not to burst out laughing. With the exception of Coach, I haven't heard of very many people who choose to marry at the drop of a hat. They usually enter into some sort of relationship first. I informed him it was for this very reason, that I felt he was safe from the prospect of ever having to enter into a gay marriage. What I didn't tell him was that the other reason he was safe, was because he was butt ugly and a complete loser! You'd have to tie a T-Bone around his neck just to get a famished dog to play with him.

I agree. It was a cop out, ...but it was the best he could get under the circumstances.
I guess he figured a half inch forward, ...was better than gaining no ground whatsoever. :-\

Why don't you come out of the closet already? You're obviously dying inside, just do it.

Ironically..nobody here will actually have to deal with gays in the military but me. First off its a stupid idea, Don't ask works fine...once they come out of the closet u will have tons of problems. There are enough issues with 19 year old testosterone fueled males in the army as it is.

I serve in the military and I would have no problem serving along-side homosexuals.
Some people need to grow the fvck up.
-
Yeah...doing what. I've had to deal with it and as an Officer it takes way to much time energy and money to deal. Don't ask works fine....I've known gays serving, as long as they stay in the closet, its fine. Further, there are alot of christians in the military that will and have a huge problem with this.

Two weeks is all I can do. We stayed at a great 4 star hotel with a massive buffet. They had a huge table of all kinds of sushi a table with all the different kinds of korean dishes.....a table for kimchi...a pasta bar cook to order and a grill with chicken, beef and some seafood. It was great but after two weeks, i was done.

I'll try to ask tonymctones' question again but word it in a different way:
Is it alright to be able to shower with a group of people of the gender you are sexually attracted to? Yes or no?

Ironically you are not the best person to be dealing with Homophobia, me thinks !!

Imagine that. Kicked out of the Army for violating the rules. Shocking.

I'm sure there were a lot of Christians who had problems with blacks coming into the Army as well.
-
Its not the same issue....I have no idea what kind of units u've been in or for how long but this kind of thing won't be good for moral. Plenty of gays serve, leave the issue alone.

that comment was in general towards the gay community not specifically towards service ppl...They as in service ppl are showering with the same sex under the impression that all are straight. You really would have no problem with me showering in the same shower room with you jag checking you out?

Would any of the proponents be fine with unisex showers/bathrooms?

There used to be tons of gays in my gym back in Germany. NEver had an effect on anything. Who cares?
-
Yeah...doing what. I've had to deal with it and as an Officer
Interesting. Because in the past you have made the same typical comments about "oh gays having sex" that is prevelant here to justify your own homophobia towards them serving in the military.
-
There used to be tons of gays in my gym back in Germany. NEver had an effect on anything. Who cares?
so you would be in favor of letting me shower and chill in the womens locker room? Problem is its preferential treatment wouldnt you agree?
-
Obviously yes.
Alright that's fine, but to be consistent at least let me shower with women in the military so that I can smell all of their fishy vaginas.
-
Obviously yes.
so your in favor of males being to go into female locker rooms and shower and change in them? just to be clear
-
so you would be in favor of letting me shower and chill in the womens locker room? Problem is its preferential treatment wouldnt you agree?
I don't care. If you read you would see that in the sauna area it was unisex.
None of this shit affects me so I don't care.
-

I would love that! It would give me the chance to fuck some of them and eat their snatch before they take a shower.
-

I did read that actually...if the women felt uncomfortable with being ogled by me as they change or shower would you support my right to be there anyway?

There is no such thing as a gay German. All the gays there moved to France long ago.....

thats not the point what so ever, whether or not any sexual interaction takes place is irrelevant. The point is that I would get arrested for going into a womens locker room and watching the shower or change so why not gay men in a mens locker room?
-

You really don't like gay people, I get that. Honestly I don't know where you are coming from. Shit doesn't affect me so I don't care. You have big arms though, that's good.

I'm actually going over to hang out with a gay friend right now in fact.

You can get a get sued for sexual harassment by looking too long at a woman chest, why it should be different when a gay man try to ogle at your cock? It's worse! Since you can't do anything about it, you're in the locker room and you need to shower and change your clothes, he's abusing the law.
Might as well send pedophiles to work at kindergardens after they get release from jail ::) Same shit!

Every few years someone comes out of the closet and demands attention. They joined knowing what the rule was but somehow everyone's supposed to get all worked up and give a shit.

Sexual harassment has nothing to do with gay issues. It has everything to do with female dominance in society. Pedophiles are not the same as gay people, horrible analogy. The gay issue is just something so irrelevant to my life. I have gay friends, never think about it for a second. More important things in life to think about.

It's a great example, you don't like it because it's againt your argument.
I'm assuming that you have no idea how closely soldiers are on a daily basis. Having someone that his close physical presence bothers you can severly impact a unit performence.

It's not that I don't like it but that it is irrelevant to my life. I don't care about the issue but think that it doesn't make a difference. The British and French armed forces don't have a policy like this and they work fine, why not in the American armed forces?

Classified British Government Study Finds No Problem with Gays in Military
Click here to download MS Word version
13 November, 2000 - SANTA BARBARA, CA. A classified report by the British Ministry of Defense is one of two new studies to conclude that London's January, 2000 decision to lift its gay ban has not harmed military performance, cohesion, recruitment, morale, or discipline.
The Ministry of Defense has not yet acknowledged the existence of the report publicly but Ministry officials released a summary of its findings to researchers at the Center for the Study of Sexual Minorities in the Military (CSSMM) at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Martin Fuller, Director of Personnel at the Ministry of Defense, told CSSMM researchers that "we've had very few real problems that have emerged, and people seem to have, slightly surprisingly, settled down and accepted the current arrangements. And we don't really have the problems that we thought we'd have."
The Ministry report marks the first comprehensive assessment of the lifting of the gay ban. Commanders from each service were asked to comment on the effects of the policy change and a Whitehall source who had access to the original, unabridged report told University of California researchers that "The report looked at all aspects, operational effectiveness, unit cohesion, and there has been no impact."
Results of the classified report are consistent with a new 70-page University of California study released this week that finds that Britain's decision to lift its gay ban has not harmed the military. The University of California study is based on a review of 101 articles, book chapters, and documents and interviews with 25 academic experts, military officials, soldiers, and journalists.
Both the Ministry report and the University of California study will be addressed at a December 9 conference at the Commonwealth Club of California in San Francisco. The conference, titled "Don't Ask, Don't Tell; Is the Gay Ban Based on Prejudice or Military Necessity?" will include three experts on the British case: Professor Christopher Dandeker, Chair of the Department of War Studies at King's College, London; Rob Nunn, an openly gay officer on a British submarine; and Steve Johnston, the President of Rank Outsiders, a gay veterans' association.
Twenty-three nations currently allow gay soldiers to serve openly. According to CSSMM director Aaron Belkin, "the new studies of the British military are embarrassing to the U.S. Pentagon. After years of citing the British case to justify its own practice of firing homosexual soldiers, two comprehensive studies now show that the lifting of the British gay ban has not had any of the negative consequences that military leaders predicted."
The Center for the Study of Sexual Minorities in the Military (CSSMM) is an official research unit of the University of California, Santa Barbara. The Center is governed by a distinguished board of advisors including the Honorable Lawrence J. Korb of the Council on Foreign Relations, Honorable Coit Blacker of Stanford University and Professor Janet Halley of Harvard Law School. Its mission is to promote the study of gays, lesbians, and other sexual minorities in the armed forces.

For homophobes, the only thing that worries them more than the thought of some queer staring at them and finding them is attractive is the fear that the queer will look and find them UNattractive.
Yes, their resentment and fear come from inner securities that they are not attractive enough to appeal to a faggottyish nelly queen while naked.
Life must suck when you have that much low self esteem.

Sung by gays and frat boys worldwide....

Just think... If this guy would have just kept his mouth shut instead of trying to make a scene and push his gay agenda... He would still have a job with the Army.
Lesson of the story: Keep your mouth shut.

I'm talking about two major points.
1.This report was not confirmed to exist, from my brief browsing of your post (I'm a little busy now).
2.Studies like that are mostly BS, always take a sociology studies are a very loose description of reality at best.

I get it, you don't like gay people. That's fine.

He is being fired for either being too dumb, or too arrogant and confrontational. He knows full well what the rules are. The rule is "Don't ask, don't tell". There is no rational reason why he could not have answered the inquiry with saying that was non of the interviewer's business. He could have said that he didn't care/intend to address that question/policy. In that way, he does not deny, untruthfully, his own sexual orientation, AND he does not make it a confrontational issue that he obviously has an agenda to have changed. What Choi did was, purposely, out himself, knowing full well what this would result in. I don't give a rat's azz what his orientation is. I do give a rat's azz about someone aggressively trying to rub their orientation in my face. The current policy deals with behaviour, not orientation. It seems to me that is the best way to deal with this contentious issue. Long answer short, Choi CHOSE to fire himself. He could have served 20 years and never said a word.

Hey HH,
You ever get that extra egg?
-
HUh?

What a stupid argument.
So says the people too insecure with their own sexuality that they have to worry about the sexuality of others.
Reality must sting at times.
-
Isn't that wat you were bellyachin' about in Korea?

You really can't be that stupid in real life.
-
Hhahah yeah....I got em to give me 3 eggs a day. They gave up arguing about it. Koreans are notoriously cheap, even when ur supposed to get something free or its Uncle Sams' stuff...good friggen luck. Our hotel had an amazing buffet that came with our room rate. The koreans were dismayed at all the food we'd choke down..30 plus guys every night.

If so, at least not stupid enough to worry about what some queer is going to think of me should I ever have to share a common shower with him.

Coming to the conclusion that I care about "some queer" proves you just can't get the point so I won't waste the time.

Hmmmm....doesn't the DoD have a homosexual conduct policy, in which homosexual conduct is spelled out, in no uncertain terms? Isn't there some kind of statement page, in which the reader has 10 basic items, stating that the applicant recognizes certain parts of the DoD policy rules?
I believe they have to initial each blank by those items and sign their names on the dotted line at the end.
-
I get it, you don't like gay people. That's fine.
Yeah... this statement really nails it ::)
Nothing like some lame sociological study that was never even verified to exist to prove a point ::)
So tell me what is the subject of your MA? I really hope that with your research standards it's not an exact science.

I study linguistics. There is much debate as to whether it is a exact science, my branch, Syntax is claimed to be but I am skeptical.

Well I don't know much about linguistics but Sociological studies are random at best, they got so many variables that can't be accounted out that it's just silly to even try and form an absolute law and conclusion from them, now add that your study was never even confirmed to exist and you get nothing but a long and meaningless post.
Now you see what I'm talking about?

I didn't cite that as an 'absolute', merely as a counterexample. That is your conclusion. Social issues can never be resolved with absolutes. Gays in the military is not an issue I care about much. Our empire and overseas spending is, but it is interesting how such side issues as 'gays in the military' serve to distract from out bloated military budget, our empire of bases and engaging in wasteful wars overseas that drain finances and destroy lives.

You must. Otherwise you wouldn't care what he thought of you in the shower.

Not going to bother reading all this jibberish. Little turd knew what he was doing when he "admitted" it. Not news.

Oddly..yes.

So you don't mind using what is practically a lie as your counterexample?
An UNCONFIRMED "research" ::)
