very nice shot....but everytime I look a t a nice shot of Lou I can't help but think about the lost potential....he could have been one of the all time greats

He could have but he took the money and ran with The Hulk , I think I would have too
-
Maybe he was...eh...errrmm....... wise...after all. ???
-

He stated in People magazine that he was paid $1,500.00 per week for the hulk.
of course, to many of you here, that is likely life-changing $.

.

Wasn't he like just 23 years old or something in those pics? After Arnold retired I don't think anyone would have touched big Louie. Franco and Zane wouldn't have stood a chance.
-

yes if you excluded his back..

True, didn't he stop competing and started back in the 90's again. He could have done both, the so called "acting," and been Mr Olympia for god knows how many times after Arnold.
-
yes if you excluded his back..
You think his back sucked? ???
-
yes if you excluded his back..
Are you implying that Lou was the Nasser of his day? ;)
-
Are you implying that Lou was the Nasser of his day? ;)
to some extent yes.. both had similar type of arms/shoulders combo too..

.
Damn good pic there wonder how how much he would charge to autograph that?

You know by agreeing, you sort of took the fun out of my little shot there. ;)

Better get your eyes checked sport this back is better than Nasser

Back detail looks pretty good, actually. Something seems off about the shot to me though, and I'm not taking about the calves. Something just seems funky about his balance there.

epic editing your post about Lou's junk in the trunk.

Am I crazy, or is his posterior enormous there? Ok, I said it. Unless it's his lower body, I don't know. Something just doesn't seem to flow.

he could hae won 3 or 5 olympias when arnold left. he would have destroyed zane, franco, and
the 1980 arnold could have been 6-time winner arnold against 4 time winner ferrigno.
he left to make $ in acting. Can't blame him, but you also don't buy into that mid-90s pity party of 'i never won the big one' or crying after losing the masters O.
-

no not better than nasser of 1994.. post nasser's back from the NOC 94 and you will see.. also nasser's lats were wider..
i still see lou's back was small for the rest of his upper body.. his relatively narrow lats was taking a lot from his FLS pose..
-

Agreed, he was poised to take over after Arnold. He would have destroyed little Franco in 1976. Lou could have had long run on top. Seeing shots of his conditioning around the time of making his Hercules movie gave a hint of what he could have brought to the table.

It's a bit hard to gauge how truly large Lou is there, being no one else is in the shot. Would be interesting to see others side by side to compare.

Ahahahahah Nasser's back in 94 was wider than Lou's at 320 pounds ?? and you came to this conclusion how? your delusion knows no bounds

What was that dudes full name again?
-
Ahahahahah Nasser's back in 94 was wider than Lou's at 320 pounds ?? and you came to this conclusion how? your delusion knows no bounds
offfff... wider means you have to put in consideration the rest of him.. i mean to see his lats in relation with his other body parts and not separately.. sure nasser's was wider and so he had a better V taper.. most of lou's weight was because he was very tall and not because he was the biggest.. same as paul dillett who was tall and big but his back lacked a lot of size to go with the rest of him.. in 1993 dorian "looked" bigger than lou but he was much lighter so don’t tell me lou was 320 pounds and that was it!!..
here you can see that at its best nasser's back was better than lou's..

Dont know man maybe Holmes?

Back in the 70's that a ton of money. That isn't that bad in today money
-
He could have been Mr.O from 76 to probably 1990 and retire at just 38 years of age, just imagine the muscle maturity he would have developed had he competed at his best years non stop .....He never reached his potential....This was coming after 17 years !
BOOM

BOOM
Lou would never, ever touch Haney who was far too complete. Lou looked good in the 70's. He could have won from 76 until '83 (Samir was on fire in 83)if he came in ripped and balanced. In the 90's he competed 50 lbs heavier but the weight wasn't balanced. He had calf implants, a back that lacked thickness/ detail, small bi's and tri's, and shoulders. His waist had gotten much thicker competing at 300+. He looked like a mess. Take a look at the double-bi front and back.
-
Lou was the uncrowned Mr. Olympia while filming Hercules in 1982. Had he not stopped bodybuilding 1975, he would have been indestructible by the time Haney came around. He had at least 5" on Haney and a ton of weight.
MULTIPLE TIMES uncrowned champ right there.
-
Big Louie is a douche bag.

Lou, based on the pics, does seem to have a decided edge in detail and at over 300 pounds has the advantage in width, no doubt. Nasser actually looks decent there, I'll concede that.
-
Cue someone to post up the Tom Platz Quad shot with Lou looking like a tiny tit...

nasser's arms and shoulders are "relatively" bigger and his v taper is better.. then take a look at their lower bodies (hams/calves) to know that nasser takes is better in this pose hands down..
-
I wonder how much Lou got paid to appear in the new Hulk?

I don't see where you can claim his back is better and wider . and we're not talking pound-for-pound either you think by making them the same height that means his back is just as good? ::) they're not the same height , Nasser in 1994 wasn't wider than Ferrigno maybe when he was much heavier but then his back suffered for
In 94 he had a similar back neither have enough of a significant advantage like Dorian over the other but I think Lou is edging him out especially in the traps and Lou's back is more crisp

People can talk shit all they want but Ferrigno was and always will be one of the best in the business. To this day he's still in good shape for his age while everyone else has floundered.

Was the Hulk ever rated #1. I don't think so but maybe you can research that for me. When was that show? Was it after 76' I can't remember, can you research that for me too. And yes $1500 a week for a show back then was really good. The minimum weekly back in 03' was just over $2300. I think it goes up like 3% a year after that but not sure. Far above the SAG minimum if they even had one back then. If I remember right they weren't paying residuals for shows prior to 76'. Also, $6,000 a month is not a bad income. not super great but not bad.

And without the GH gut... :o
-
Why didn't Lou and Serge come back for 76 Olympia? That midget Sardinian got a free ride.
I know Lou was doing Hulk, but why couldn't he have trained concurrently for the O? I mean, after all, his role in the Hulk was all about the physique.
-
Better get your eyes checked sport this back is better than Nasser
Lou's physique could win the Olympia today...very nice back shot..and he is more striated than most guys today
-
Am I crazy, or is his posterior enormous there? Ok, I said it. Unless it's his lower body, I don't know. Something just doesn't seem to flow.
I think it's the posing trunks..they look awful..classic 1970's style
-
Also a lot of people don't realize that Lou quit just as there was a big leap in chemical inhancements...stuff like HGH, insulin, and before the chemical guru's...Lou basically worked out on his own in a basement without a training partner.....and he had only his father to guide him..if he had one of those so-called "gurus" like all the guys do today and he had access to all the stuff they have today he would have been incredible for his size
-

Excellent point and one that is over looked. Especially the chemical warefare.
-
Used to see Lou almost everyday at the gym back in the early 80's. I remember seeing him training just before he left to do the Hercules movie. He was HUGE. He trained in a flannel shirt that just him look incredible. He was pretty nice back then. I trained arms with him a few times. He had no problem you working in with him. I guess he is alot different now.

Lou did go to a gym and his basement for his lifting, but his father didn't guide him. That was all made up for Pumping Iron. After the 75 Olympia, Joe Weider offered to train Ferrigno in Cali, but his dad told him to give up bodybuilding and start in a real trade. He had training in sheet metal, and moved to Columbus, Ohio and worked for Purdie Metals. I don't know if he knew that the Olympia was gonna start being there or it was just coincidence that he took a job here.
A buddy of mine worked in a factory near the one Lou worked at, and the workers of both factories would eat their lunch together by some railroad tracks. My friend said Lou was the nicest guy, but that was before he was famous. My buddy worked out with Lou at Otterbein College's weightroom, and it took 2 or 3 guys to spot him on the bench.

You got a point since Lou lost like 30 pounds for his last show, considering that he looked great all year round 94' not only in gym pics, had he kept more mass he would have taken the Master easily that year (wich he almost did btw).

Lou Ferrigno for the loss
