NO ONE in the world before or since could have pulled as much pussy as a young robert plant
-
Seriously, though... how do we embed vids now?
-
I think Plant was the weak link in Zep.....if they had a lyricist who wrote about more than wizards and trolls they would have been better IMO

Led Zep was great, the music is the best for what it is. I think that plant may have been the benefactor of much pussy but hardly what Elvis got.

Best rock & roll group ever period point blank...And if you never listened to them on shrooms you have never really heard them...
-
Zeps great, but Floyd is better ;)
-
no way is Zep better than Floyd, albeit I never listen to floyd
-
Take a listen to "Time" from Darkside of the Moon

My favorite Zep albums are Physical Graffiti and Houses of the Holy. I prefer Sabbath to Zep.
-
Oh man Lats, throwing sabbath in the mix changes things for me..Zep and Sabbath..hmmmmm both are in my ipod

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOM!

Oh man Lats, throwing sabbath in the mix changes things for me..Zep and Sabbath..hmmmmm both are in my ipod
The first 4 Sabbath albums are really hard to beat in my book. The first couple Deep Purple records are up there too.

Hey newmom, what you think about Alice in Chains? I hate to admit this, but I'm a pretty big Rush fan

Alice in Chains, loveeeee them. Rush, they okay. Lately for the past few years, thrash/death metal is my choice. But I really like all kinds of music. I mean one cd in my car is rascall flatts, then Ill put on System of a down, so go figure

I'm going to see Them Crooked Vultures at Download this summer.
Should be pretty good.

I think she might have meant she never really "listened" to floyd on shrooms/acid which is the way it was created to be heard....I read some books on floyd...They were mostly tripin but if they created something sober (which was rare)and then ate acid and it didn't sound right they trashed it...so essentially everything they made was intended to be listened to in an enlightened state...

Yes Led Zep is the best, read about them and you will find out the John Paul Jones was really their guiding force.

X2....I think Plant was a pretentious dildo..he still is actually.
Imagine if you put Neil young, Bono, or Eddie Vedder's brain inside Plant's body
-
Led Zeppelin say they could be up for replacing U2 at the Glastonbury festival in June. The rock legends are amongst the candidates to stand in for Bono and co, who pulled out yesterday after the band's singer underwent surgery on his back. "I never rule anything out," said guitarist Jimmy Page when asked if they were interested in playing.

Immigrant song. VIKING POWER! ;>

If you want meaningful lyrics, then listen to fucking Bob Dylan (not knocking bob btw, I think he's brilliant)......but that's not what led Zep we're about.....it was the sound and music they managd to create....they dominated the 1970s, they spawned a million imitators and they're only second to the Beatles in terms of everything that makes a band great.....shit, even the word 'great' doesnt do them justice.....they were so good, that it was just meant to be...divine intervention....like Elvis and The Beatles......and that's your rock n roll history right there....Elvis, Beatles, Zep.....everyone ever since has been trying to chase these guys, but no one has managed to succeed.....
fuck, I'd kill to have lived in Cali in the early 1970s....seeing Elvis at the Hilton one month and Zep at The Forum the next.....and pumping iron with Arnie at Golds in between.....
damn, that's life right there....

Anybody interested in Jimmy Page as a musician and his role in Zeppelin ought to check out the movie "It Might Get Loud" - it is a pretty cool documentary that looks at Jimmy Page, Jack White and U2's The Edge in terms of their unique approach to the guitar and songwriting.
The portions devoted to Page were the most interesting as he retold Zeppelin era stories as well as played some of his best known riffs. I think this movie kind of flew under the radar in 2009 but is worth a look if you are a fan of any of the 3 guitarists featured.

I'm no expert but I dig White's playing. Will check it out. Cheers.

Obviously, I'm a fan of Thin Lizzy; Phil's narrative vocal style and the twin lead guitar attack, but their body of work can't compare to Zeppelin's.
Look at it this way. If Lizzy and Zep went out on tour together in their prime, who would be the opening act?
-
in through the outdoor was a classic and tragic ending to what could have been zep in the 80's as a still great band, they were on top of there game after some tough late 70's times, all in good shape but bonzo,if u see videos from the last show at knebworth sweden bonzo is very heavy but still banging away ,the others looked rested and in good music form.cosa came out with some reissues and some decent late 70's throwaway songs.cool band.

I love Thin Lizzy, don't get me wrong, but I always have a laugh when I hear 'Jailbreak' and the opening two lines: 'Tonight there's gonna be a jailbreak' 'Somewhere in this town.' If I was the sheriff of this town, I'd be positioning my men at the jail, not somewhere. ;D

Perhaps they were going to breakout via the sewer pipe and come out a mile away from the jail ala Tim Robbins in "Shawshank Redemption." :)

How's bout Lynard Skynard? "I was a cuttin' a rug down at a place called The Jug with a girl named Linda Lou, when in walked a man with a gun in his hand and he was looking for you know who. He said hey there fella with ya hair colored yellow what ya trying to prove? Coz that's a my woman there and I'm a man who cares and this might be all for you." Van Zant... DUTCH POWER! Oh yeah ;>

Great, narrative, down-to-earth lyrics. When Southern rock was peakin' America was actually giving the Brits a run for their money.
The Outlaws were actually my favorite mainly because of the guitar playing of Billy Jones. No one had a tone like this guy. He's the one in the vest playing the black Gibson.

Yeah Hendrix did "trow" down. No denying that, but Duane Alman was hands down the best guitarist of that generation. Ask Clapton.

I think she might have meant she never really "listened" to floyd on shrooms/acid which is the way it was created to be heard....I read some books on floyd...They were mostly tripin but if they created something sober (which was rare)and then ate acid and it didn't sound right they trashed it...so essentially everything they made was intended to be listened to in an enlightened state...
that's bullshit and hearsay. the only one who was really into drugs was syd barrett and they kicked him out relatively early on.
-
that's bullshit and hearsay. the only one who was really into drugs was syd barrett and they kicked him out relatively early on.
thats true, while floyd is "trippy" and "progressive" and may have been doing a lot of psychedelics around the time of 'saucer full of secrets' and 'piper at the gates of dawn'
roger waters was known to take music composition VERY seriously, likewise gilmour.........by the time they hit 'dark side', 'the wall', 'wish you were here', 'animals'.........they were not known to be one of those bands that were fucked up all the time
they were trying to compose material that was a whole encompassing sensory experience, as evinced by the album art, ultra-forward-thinking, stage shows, ect.........while drugs might be viewed by some as a facilitator for the enjoyment of floyd's music.......they certainly are not a prerequisite.......not for the band itself either
-
My friend is doing graphics for Waters' upcoming "The Wall" tour. Should be amazing.
-
i wish they would stop being pissy babies, and put the past behind them.......and do a solid tour for the fans who love them
one of them is already gone......they dont have all that many years left to be stubborn.....time is running out
-

You're right, but, this type of reunion usually occurs when the band members need money. According to my friend, Waters lives in a huge castle and drives a Rolls. So, you might not want to hold your breath.

no, none of them need the money
and yes, when people are in need of money they have a way of putting the past behind them
thats why bands like GnR and abba will never reunite......i think abba turned down 1 billion dollars to do a reunion tour

No accounting for taste. I've heard that too. A billion dollars but they didn't need the money. If it's true they should have just done the tour and donated it all to charity. Would have been a far better legacy than whatever their music has done.

I have a cool Roger Waters story....
Way back in the late 90's I was just getting into Satellite installs out in the Hamptons and i got an order from an R. Waters. Really didnt connect the dots at the time. Until i knocked on the door and Roger Fucking Waters answers it by saying "Hey Maaaaaan, how are you??" and shakes my hand.
He was cool as shit too, helped me move his big ass TV ....got me something to drink...tipped me a hunnred bucks too.
But the absolute BEST was when i was writing up his order in his office, he sits down in a chair right next to me with a guitar and starts playing Floyd tunes...I swear to fucking God. It blew me away. How many people can say they were sitting in Roger Waters house and he played some tunes for them??
PS...his GF at the time was fucking insane...5'9" swedish goddess that was flawless....but she was a fucking BITCH.
"is he DONE yet?.....really Roger"
-
Wow! Awesome fvcking story Groink! I wonder if he played "Dogs" for ya? But I doubt it though, since that song is over 17 minutes long ;)

And "Wanton Song."
-
Zeps great, but Floyd is better ;)
One cannot compare those two. They were two very different BEASTS. It's like comparing Zep to Purple, or Sabbath. All brought something different to the table. For pure unadulterated ROCK, Zep take the throne, HANDS DOWN.
-
And "Wanton Song."
great tune, great drumming there,,and the crunge,,,anybody see the bridge, where's that confounded bridge,,

He was for sure but got terribly worn out. These guys had a heavy tour schedule. Youtube some Zeppelin songs live. 95% of the time after 1973 Plant was worn. Jimmy and Bonzo excelled and carried them. The only reason they were so great is because Bonham could keep up with Page and they grew together. I have been a die hard Zep fan my entire life. No Jimmy. No band.
yep particularly in the later years lots nad lots of 35 minute blues tangents, drum solos and guitar shows to cover up for plants inability ot any-longer replicate the voice he had in the studio
everybody though he was just being inventive and giving the songs a different interpretation.......... .he jsut didnt have it in him anymore

I saw a recent Who concert on TV. Daltrey was painful to listen to.
The only guy from that era who still has it is the great Paul Rodgers.

Agree 100%. I don't know why he did Queen, probably money.
Free, IMO, the most underrated rock band, ever. The front three of Rodgers, Fraser, and Kossoff was second to none.

Bad Co. Now that's a man's group right there! Singing bout being an individual, taking no orders from no one, and doing it to your lady anyway dat you please :>

Led Zep was great, the music is the best for what it is. I think that plant may have been the benefactor of much pussy but hardly what Elvis got.
why quibble over it when you can have both
