Van Halen deserves a top ten rating for sure. And yes, the tail end of the 70's. Zeppelin was unreal. All four musicians were so gifted at their respective roles in the band. Page was so cool and still is when he performs even today. Plant looks like an old frog these days but he one of the most gifted rock vocalists of all time. Bonham killed it on the drums. Just four super highly gifted musicians who fired on all cylinders.
-
Pink Floyd hands downs I hope this helps.
-
it was a different time. I saw Zepp twice before I started kindergarten. If you didn't, your parents may have been uncool. That said... The Who has to be on the top of any list and, remember, The Stones did their best work in the 70's.
-
7 and 12 should be swapped. Van Halen is one of the best rock bands of all time, granted thier first album came out in 78, but they're much more influential than whoever that is at 7.
-
VH is really an 80's band, same with Genesis, Rush, ZZ top, police, Scorpions. That's when they got big.
Priest and Motorhead are really metal. Black sabbath is too but I have no problem labeling them classic rock.

Whoever that is influenced Van Halen. Hell, Van Halen covered Budgie songs in the 70's. Most Americans have NO IDEA who Budgie are. Again, criminally underrated.
To the guy who thinks Hendrix should be in there, well, he is more of a 60's rock star. Not a 70's.

ok??? this from a guy who steals his name from a murdering racist and is to stupid to know how bad ABBA's "music" was. (Che: i put quotation marks around the word music because I don't think they're performances really qualify).
Do you know the history of the Cuban revolution?

are you saying that since Jimi died in 1970 and didn't release any albums that year, he's not that much of a rock star of the 70's?
-
also, i'd like to add Funkadelic and Stevie Wonder. Yeah, Funkadelic's funk and Stevie Wonder's R&B (I guess), but they made some legendary music.

Not a bad list. The most obvious omission is The Who. Who's Next came out in '71. That's when they really started to peak.
One of my all-time favorites is The Outlaws. In their prime, they blow most of the bands on that list off the stage.
Another underrated '70s band was Foghat. Foghat Live is one of the all-time greatest "single" live albums. Two others that come to mind are Cheap Trick: Live at Budokan, and Lou Reed: Rock and Roll Animal.
If you're going to include solo rockers, Ted Nugent, Peter Frampton and, of course, Clapton would have to make the list.

You are right. It isn't important cause you know. LOL.
Castro sucked the dick of my Great Grandfather's cousin. He didn't care who watched. . . Hell, my Great Grandfather's Cousin gave him a half hour so he could draw a crowd. I was like WOW when i learned this. It's true. Castro is/was a flaming fag.
I figure everyone "south of the US" is ripe for Homosexual activities. I learned that on GB
What the fuck are you talking about ???
How did this whole thing go gay? Why must your families gay penis sucking be brought into this?

This may be...I don't know who they are, and after reading about them, they still do not sound familiar, but I'll take your word for it.
Van Halen (Eddie) was heavily influenced by Clapton, but that's common knowledge.
I agree that The Who should be on there as well.
Either way, music was awesome back then. Now we get sh*t like Justin Beever and Taylor Swift. ::)

clapton did not tap,and solo on the neck like eddie.eddie used distortion, hammer, and other techniques most players never did or he expanded on it.page, hendrix, did wild stuff before, but eddie is the king .if u ever seen eddie play live esp during his guitar solo like it or not the arena is his for 10 minutes and it is something to see and hear.

I think FACES should be on the list.

The Outlaws x100
There are so many great guitar players, but what makes the late Billy Jones a cut above is his tone and ability to tell a story with his solos.
This is the 1st part of Green Grass and High Tides performed at a festival in Germany 1981.
What makes this clip so cool is that at about the 4:15 mark, Billy lauches into a solo. When he finishes at about 7:00, the normally reserved German crowd gives him an ovation DURING the song.
btw,
nice Zappa clip Yngiwe
-
Emerson, Lake, and Plamer, The Alan Parsons Project, King Crimson, Uriah Heep.

Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Sabbath and ELP..

No top twenty would be complete without Angel....."on earth as it is in heaven"
anyone else remember those fucking fairies?? the guitarist played with those banjo things on his fingers
Serious note.....Stones should be higher

Steve Miller Band,Little Feat,Bad Company,Foreigner,Journey,Styx,Jeff Beck,Robin Trower,Charlie Daniels Band,Heart,and you gotta` include both Johnny and Edgar Winter.

nj, ya, i've seen them in concert a few times....the audience is at a standstill for that 10 to 20 min. Something really to experience for sure.

Bruce Springsteen
Amazingly, Born to Run was released in 1975.

Yeah I know they only had one album in the 70's. Hehe

Can't believe I forgot Queen. As for Neil Young, he was Folk/Country. If you include him, then you have to throw in Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan and the list goes on.

Styx was HUGE in the 70's. Awesome band.

Deep Purple

Jefferson Starship. "Jane you're playing the game of hide and go seek. Jane you're playing for fun baby, but I play for keeps, yes I do." ;> And don't forget about Badfinger.
-
In the 80's rock music started to suck.
By 2000 it had gone to shit.
Now it's just a rotten pile of shit that's gotten hard and crusty.
-
That's close to being true ship, but the 90s grunge sound kicked ass there for awhile. Alice in Chains, STP, Soundgarden. Rock on baby!
-
All bases seem to be nicely covered, but has anyone mentioned Bob Seger? If not, one vote for blue-collar rock, please.
-
I know that I'm gonna catch some flack for saying this, but I'm a big fan of love songs, and in this regard them Jewish folk kick some major ass: Niel Diamond, Billy Joel, Simon and Garfunkel, Babs, Carol King, Carly Simon. And in my humble opinion, Wildflower by Skylard, IS the most beautiful love song ever written. I also like blue-eyed soul, namely the Doobie Bros and Ambrosia.
-
Good additions Keith. :)
Deep Purple
And Fleetwood Mac (i did a commerical with)
-
For the 70's completist, add the Faces ('A nod is as good as a wink...') and Humble Pie (live at the Fillmore). Both classics.

absolutely love that song.
I'm not a video game guy, but, from what I understand, it's one of the most popular songs on Rock Band.
Here's part II. Could you imagine some twink emo band having to follow this? They'd be lucky to escape alive.
At about 7:00 the camera pans the crowd. Germans hadn't been that excited since WWII.

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Rush had some pretty cool 70s tunes, even though they were better in the 80s. How's about The Voice Paul Rogers from Bad Co. :>

Rush was better in the 80's,HUH?
-
Premanant Waves (1980) Moving Pictures (1981) even though there 1st album Rush is my personal fav, but I'm just a simple kind of guy.
-
I would add Skynyrd, CCR, and the Allman Brothers to the list. I was nothing but a twinkle in my dad's eye in the 70s but I did find all my parents records and play them when I was younger.
-

good list except for budgie? wtf is a budgie and what instutment did you play in this group my guess is the bone-a-phone. or perhaps the ventilated meat whistle.
-
Premanant Waves (1980) Moving Pictures (1981) even though there 1st album Rush is my personal fav, but I'm just a simple kind of guy.
permanent waves great album, moving pictures the 'breakout"to mainstream it only took a decade .moving picturs has great tunes sans tom sawyer ,best song is vital signs.that is a cd u listen to all the way through.hemispheres, fairwell to kings,2112,are all concept type esp 2112.signals has some good stuff, then it gets shaky grace under pressure, power windows, the thing with rush is after early 80's it was 2 cd's then live album, then another greatest hits,2 cd's ,another live album.they have at least 5 live albums and i don't know how many greatest hits.all the worlds a stage is very good early rush live album tying in there first 5 records.
-

-

38 Special
Doobie Brothers
Styx
Supertramp
Monkees
Beatles
Moley Hachett
The Beatles were not a 70's band. They were a 60's band. If you open that can of worms, then you need to mention the Yardbirds, Cream, Hendrix and every other early to late 70's band.
I think Blue Cheer deserve a mention, as do Journey.
-
lest we not forget
ZZ Top
Triumph
J Geils
I was hesistant to mention Triumph because their studio albums, for the most part, aren't anything special, but, if you're going to talk about guitarists, Rik Emmett is easily one of the best and most entertaining.
Here he is killing a crowd of 500,000 at the U.S Festival. Many people who were there said Triumph was the best band on the metal day.
