I call complete bullshit. Thoughts?
(http://www.tryingfitness.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/walker1.jpg)
* Does not train with free-weights
* Uses bodyweight exercises, calisthenics, and conditioning, as well as martial arts training
* Performs 750-1,000 push-ups daily
* 2,000+ sit-ups daily
* Skips breakfast
* Trains for martial arts which includes wrestling, kickboxing, sparring and jujitsu
* Dinner is the only meal consumed which consists of salad, soup, and bread
* He is a vegetarian
* Sleeps four hours a night
According to wikipedia, Herschel Walker doesn't weightlift. He does 2500 situps and 1500 pushups a day and eats only one meal a day in the evening of bread, salad and chicken soup. And now he's fighting in the MMA with "Commission head physician Dr. Allan Fields, who oversaw the stress test on Walkerâ??s heart, said that Walkerâ??s heart functions better than any individual tested at the cardiac institution that handled the testing.

Hershel = full of shit
-
All deer antlers
-
All that training and no protein and only 4 hours of sleep. gh15 would have a field day on him.

As clean as the river Ganges

But who his age looks that good and appears that healthy, on or off?
dude is an anomaly.
-
who knows...i would have called bullshit a few years ago...but i have gained a lot of muscle since starting serious cardio, only sleep at the most 2-3 hours of sleep a night, sometimes not at all, and i am clean...and i am bigger, and more conditioned than i was when i was juicing(until i went high dose of course..)...but i eat...A LOT!!
the only thing that bothers me with his claim is the food thing...whenever you see the guy(thread pic) his muscles always seem full...like he just ate...could be his body just adapted after all these years of it..that is if he isnt full of shit..

The strange thing is I gained muscle doing cardio as well. Over the last couple years I really switched to a lot of sprinting mountain bike riding etc and find not only didn't I lose muscle I actually gained! And now that I am lifting again it's great. I didn't do a minute of cardio even into my twenties, I wish I had. Any ideas why it's effective? I always heard cardio burns muscle...

i honestly think it has to do with increased circulation...i have done zero research...just a guess..
Can I ask why do you only sleep 2 hours a night?
just insane insomnia...i have a resting heartbeat of 125bpm also...everyone(except my dad) on my dads side of the family has insomnia, and a fast heartbeat...my grandmas is over 130bpm, and she is 83 with no history of any heart problems...i recently didnt sleep for 5 days, and had to get a EKG done...everything was fine though..just ate some sugars and passed out for a few hours, and went on my way..

Most of it is bullshit, he was on Jim Rome this morning and he said he hasn't missed a day of training since he was 15, and watches what he eats. He said he does do 2000 sit ups and 1000 push ups per day. He said he got motivated because he a fat kid with a speech impedement and had poor grades, he changed everything when he was 15. He still claims he can still play at NFL level and still runs a 4.4 40 which I believe!

Well if you believe he can still run a 4.4 and could make an NFL team then I got some ocean front property in Arizona for sale if you are interested, Joe.
I mean really, how stupid can you be?

I didn't say he could make a team, I said I still believe he could the 4.4. Look, if someone his age (48) could train in MMA at the level he does (and he did kick the shit out of his first opponent) why should I doubt he could run a 4.4?

His face doesn't look 48, so it's not hard to believe that his body would match his face. Nobody knows what 1000 pushups and 2000 sit-ups per day would do for the body, because I'm sure no one other than Herschel has ever sustained this routine.

I am not bashing you in the least, but do you really believe:
1) that Herschel has sustained this routine from the age of 15; and/or
2) that he ever actually did this routine?
There were a set of twins that played doubles tennis for a while that blatantly lied about their workout routines, specifically the amount of pushups and situps they did per day. I played high level tennis, and had the chance to speak to someone that trained with them for much of their early years, and was told that they were always liars, about everything.
So, who really knows?
I must admit that Herschel, on or not, is a specimen at the end of the bell curve.
-
I think Herschel is just about pushing the line of credibility, and I say that as a Herschel fan since his Georgia Bulldog days.
And in fact, his physique is probably better than at U of Georgia.....

He has a youthful face and body. I don't know if he's lied about his push-up/sit-up routine all these years, but it's not hard for me to believe that a guy at the end of the bell curve could develop his physique with 35 years worth of bodyweight exercises.

pushups, situps, and drugs.

I met and watched the Bryan's play at both the Copper Bowl and Fiesta Bowl (National Tournaments) back in 1993 and 1994 (one event is before the New Year, and the other is directly after).
They were obviously talented as hell, and the perfect practice partners (one is lefty, the other righty). Never have I seen more catered to athletes at a junior event, and mind you, they were only 12 or 13 at the time (4 years younger than me). Learned that their father bought a club specifically so they could practice as much as they wanted (I was a bit envious of that, as my podunk town had only 2 indoor courts for the winter, which were constantly booked by awful playing doctors).
Sev, I am sorry, the brothers I was thinking of were the Jensen brothers (not twins). Their diet and fitness regime were very overblown.

Even given the fact that he hit the genetic jackpot, his routine and eating habits seem more and more outlandish everytime I hear them.
I can accept the spartan diet OR the extreme volume of training but NOT BOTH NATURAULLY!

Doing that much volume with 100s and 100s of reps isn't really strength training per se, more like endurance and possibly conditioning training. What amazes me is that he doesn't or didn't get progressively weaker and smaller following that kind of training regime.

Most people wouldn't believe Hershal's claims but actually I do. His one meal a day is most likely attributed to the Nation of Islam's dietary recommendations for "one meal a day" which is preached by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. In addition, while he may just eat a soup, salad, and bread but depending on the type of food and the quantity, he could be getting in 2-3000 calories in that one meal if he's eating a large bowl of a heavy soup like a clam chowder or cheddar bisque.
The bodyweight exercises are absolutely possible and I've been using them for clients for a couple years now and it works. EA Active Fitness and other Wii Fitness Programs incorporate those same workouts. Push-ups work practically the entire upper body especially in a quantity and so do situp. I knew a guy that got himself in shape by watching TV for about 6 hours and doing pushup and situps during the commercial breaks. As long as its a consistent exercise and diet program, the body will make progressive gains.
But as far as steroids are concerns, the jury is out on that one but everything else is actually in order

Go to any prison and you'll see people in their 60's in the the same shape they are in. Age doesn't make a difference and in fact because of Hershal's age, he has a lot more muscle maturity. Its all about the consistancy in your workouts and dedication to your diet.

* Does not train with free-weights
* Uses bodyweight exercises, calisthenics, and conditioning, as well as martial arts training
* Performs 750-1,000 push-ups daily
* 2,000+ sit-ups daily
* Skips breakfast
* Trains for martial arts which includes wrestling, kickboxing, sparring and jujitsu
* Dinner is the only meal consumed which consists of salad, soup, and bread
He also runs everyday around 4 miles.
I used one of the bmr calculators online, he needs to consume around 3100 calories a day just to maintain bodyweight if he weighs 220 lbs.
I also did another estimate of 2 hrs of calisthenics, half hour of running, and 1 hour of martial arts, that would require an additional 2,400 calories.
So, that one meal of soup and bread has to be around 5,500 calories. ::)

Well I agree with that. I eat all kinds of greens all the time too and i'm into herbal medicine.
I'm not sure if turnip greens would cure a sore back though I don't think that's real herbal medicine. Instead i'd go with marijuana or opium for that problem.

you need bulk ingredients/building blocks
herbs and drugs only send signals or stimulate, they do nothing for building. Just like roids send signals and stimulate they do nothing for building in the long run , they are just temporarly blown up

As long as its a consistent exercise and diet program, the body will make progressive gains.

Hershel lives in the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose. He is not poor. I would guess he has around 25 million dollars- plus the $10,000 he won last night.
Huh what room? Shit I pass the Fairmont every day on my way to class. Maybe I could get an interview going. Would be epic...

Yeah, well one of those dozen or so personalities is on steroids and probably works out with weights.
Nice excuse, though......
