Title: Cop writes hilarious letter to Kanye West

http://clashdaily.com/2013/12/boom-cop-pens-hilarious-letter-kanye-compares-rapping-warpolice-work/#DRMLm7B3G2mlrCeA.01

Dear Kanye West,

I am honored to be writing such an important star. I am a mere Internet sensation. I’m not sure I am worthy to address you, although the Huffington Post did say I was “Humorous and Insanely Popular.” I don’t pay much attention to those things. Anyway, please excuse my interference in your life for a quick second.

I read your interview and also watched it on video. You said:
“I’m just giving of my body on the stage and putting my life at risk, literally.….and I think about it. I think about my family and I’m like, wow, this is like being a police officer or something, in war or something.”

I want to thank you for putting your life on the line for all of us every day. I know that being a rapper is tough work. I have tried to rap, and it is very difficult to keep up with the pulse of the rhyme flow…although when Ice Ice Baby comes on the radio, I can usually keep up with ol’ Vanilla. Anywho, your job is just some very dangerous work. Most people don’t consider… if you rap really fast, without a chance to inhale, you could pass out and hit your head.

That last paragraph was covered in sarcasm. I’m letting you know, just so you do not think I agree with your very ignorant assessment of your career (or any other performer)as it relates to a person in the military or a police officer’s service. You sir, are as misguided as they come. I do have a suggestion for you. Since you are accustomed to danger, from your life as an international rapper, I am strongly encouraging you immediately abandon you career as a super star and join the military. After joining, I would like you to volunteer to be deployed in Afghanistan or one of the numerous other forward locations where our men an women are currently serving. When the Taliban starts shooting at you, perhaps you could stand up and let the words flow. It could be something like “I’m Kanye West, wearing a flak vest.” I’m sure they would just drop weapons and surrender. You could quite possibly end all wars, just from the enemy being star-struck.

Your line of thinking is part of the problem in the world today….which include entertainers thinking they are something more than just entertainers. I know it is supply and demand and the demand for your services is high. I get economics. What I do not get is you EVER comparing what you do for a living to our heroic military members, who are always in harm’s way… and my brother and sister police officers who have to go to work carrying weapons and wearing a bullet-proof vest to protect themselves.

Check yourself, before you wreck yourself….Chief Oliver.

Kayne is an idiot of monumental proportions, but that cop is a far greater douchebag.  I can't stand the way police think they are doing a dangerous job, when they aren't even in the top ten of dangerous professions.  The only risk that fat pig is taking is the risk of heart disease due to his daily excessive consumption of donuts.  It seems Kayne isn't the only one who likes to PRETEND his job is far more dangerous than it actually is.

The 10 Deadliest Jobs:

1. Logging workers
2. Fishers and related fishing workers
3. Aircraft pilot and flight engineers
4. Roofers
5. Structural iron and steel workers
6. Refuse and recyclable material collectors
7. Electrical power-line installers and repairers
8. Drivers/sales workers and truck drivers
9. Farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural managers
10. Construction laborers

There's a huge difference between a random risk like boat sinking in a storm, and dealing with a upfront risk like an aids carrier with box cutters. One is a background issue, while the other is constantly in your face.

kanye sucks as well as so many other rappers.... same shit always, bitches, ho's, cars, bling, and how much cash they have.... at least if they had a decent voice like some of the oldschool  guys like dmx it would be bearable.... but they all have annoying voices... kane, lil wanye, drake, French Montana..... guys all suck and sound like they r partially retarded. nothing positive in almost all the this hip hop crap nowadays.

lol @ aids carrier with box cutters.  BIG DEAL. I have had to deal with deranged imbeciles just while being out in public many times, sometimes they have had weapons, and I never had the luxury of an arsenal of lethal weapons and the full weight of the law behind me.   Police would love to have you believe that their job is so dangerous and they are heroic blah, blah, blah, but the fact is, the chances of a police officer dying whilst at work are far less than many other professions.

And it's not random risk, the risk is based on real life fatalities.  Being heavily lethally armed and being legally entitled to use lethal force if need be while dealing with a crazy person with some box cutters hardly represents a risk.

Kanye had some really creative sounds, early on.  He's a solid producer.

As a rapper, person, etc, he's complete crap.

But I will admit the use of sampling on his early work, that he spent a decade on - it was very creative and nice on the ears.  The new stuff, ugh, entirely punchable.

I think it's the "musical artist" attitude in general.  I know a lot of white dudes who are the most obnoxious, egotistical, over-confident, pretend rock stars I've ever met... and they're playing local dive bars for $80 a man.

The kind of personality that gets into music is often non-conformist, "look at me cause I'm special" d-bag.
Also they surround themselves with weak women that'll coddle, enable them, and tell them the world owes them.

The worst part is that I do music only part-time, I can play circles around most of them, and I very regularly get frustrated over their whiny shit.  "I can't carry speakers afterwards until I rest and smoke for 15 minutes".  You shitbird punk, you carry my PA system or I will replace your ass, you fcking mediocre, soft, weak, sorry ass, pentatonic scale playing twerp.

Well its simple they have been created to be in these positions to further indocrinate and brainwash the youth with their luciferian symbolism, beats and messages they convey.

This is partly the reason why.

I've always said that the retarded masses are told what they should like. It takes someone with half a brain to appreciate decent music. Unfortunately, that is an extremely small segment of the population.

I'm not a big fan of police officials commenting publicly on entertainers and pointing out how dangerous the job is... Get over it. The very reasons that make policing dangerous are more than likely the very same reason cops were drawn to it in the first place. So pointing out the danger is kind of self serving. If it wasn't dangerous or had the potential, it wouldn't be all that interesting.

Airplane pilots are number 3?  There aren't really that many plane crashes compared to auto accidents.  And flight engineers?  Are they dying while architecting new plane designs?

It's based on deaths per 100,000.  According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, lumbermen have the worst mortality rate of anybody, with 118 deaths per 100,000 workers. For pilots it’s 70 kills per 100,000. Alaskan bush pilots, included in the commercial pilot grouping, have an astounding one-in-eight chance of death over the course of a 30-year career.

this list is based on total numbers of deaths and serious injuries occuring on the job.. that is what constitutes danger. Dont be an asshat just because you have a fetish for men in uniforms with guns. cops are nothing but guard and attack dogs leeching off the taxpayers, basically glorified welfare queens.

Why is it soldiers and cops are determined to convince everyone how dangerous their job is when we all know it isn't that dangerous.  Walking around with a cache of lethal weapons actually makes you the danger to other people.  We get it, such people have a hero complex and want to be perceived as rugged and tough, but the fact is your lowly garbage man or truck driver is taking a far greater risk in his occupation. And yet you never hear them bleating on about how dangerous there job is.  Those drawn to roles like soldier or cop are usually insecure douchebags looking for a power trip.  Sad but True.

I even seen some webpage where some cop was upset that Police weren't in the top 10 dangerous jobs, so he changed it around and made his own list and put cops at Number three.

Well, the rancher deals with multi-ton animals without a gun, where he has to often stay on the range to run them and live away from modern conveniences for days and weeks at a time,  so yeah... he may have you there.

We get it, you're a cop... You got it tough...

I guess next time you've got a chance to make a list you should go ahead and put yourself up top.

To the point of the original posting... Obviously Kanye is a buffoon and why anyone would even feel they have to compare themselves to him after any statement he makes shows they have their own inferiority complex.

If someone says something ridiculously stupid, you don't have to respond to them and give them any more publicity.

(Go ahead and say something about no longer responding to me... Since my opinions are just stupid anyway... Will save us all some time.)

Kum-yee-in-my-mouth compared himself to being in "combat". End of the story.
Cops and Soldiers aren't doing the most dangerous jobs. Hope this helps.  But we all know the insecure types attracted to those types of jobs want everyone to believe that they are constantly putting themselves in danger. I am constantly amazed how insecure such people are.  This holding up of an illusion, all because they are so deeply insecure they want others to appreciate their faux heroic efforts.  We get it, such people need others to believe their job is dangerous even when it's not really in order to feel good about themselves. Sad and pathetic.

The irony is, the fat pig copper did the exact same thing Kayne did, exaggerate the dangerousness of his profession.  Both are insecure douchebag losers, although I think the cop wins the medal for being the biggest loser.

Where do I send that check for the space I'm taking up in your head? Apparently, if either of us respond to a post, it's due to that right? The point of any original post, several pages in is most often not what is being talked about at the moment so try and keep up.

Kayne is an idiot of monumental proportions, but that cop is a far greater douchebag.  I can't stand the way police think they are doing a dangerous job, when they aren't even in the top ten of dangerous professions.  The only risk that fat pig is taking is the risk of heart disease due to his daily excessive consumption of donuts.  It seems Kayne isn't the only one who likes to PRETEND his job is far more dangerous than it actually is.

The 10 Deadliest Jobs:

1. Logging workers
2. Fishers and related fishing workers
3. Aircraft pilot and flight engineers
4. Roofers
5. Structural iron and steel workers
6. Refuse and recyclable material collectors
7. Electrical power-line installers and repairers
8. Drivers/sales workers and truck drivers
9. Farmers, ranchers, and other agricultural managers
10. Construction laborers

Airline Pilots were at the top of this list a few years ago and I used to ask myself what make this job so dangerous, but after learning so much about piloting, I change my mind.... :)

Every year, the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics releases its Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries, outlining the most dangerous jobs in America.  Like clockwork, after the release of the census, a handful of reporters will write a story highlighting the fact that police officers are not at the top of the list.

The underlying implication is that, because criminal justice careers aren't first on the list, perhaps law enforcement officers are not entitled to the enhanced pensions or health benefits they often receive.  That is a debate for another time and another place.

Occupational Fatality Rate

A look at the data, though, is certainly worth a discussion.  The truth of the matter is, no matter where the occupation ranks on the census, law enforcement careers remain dangerous.  In fact, following a historic low of line-of-duty deaths in 2009, on-the-job fatalities for law enforcement officers are again on the upswing.

The Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries is a great source of information, but like all statistics, it's the interpretation of the data that matters.  The census produces a "fatality rate," detailing the number of individuals fatally injured per 100,000 workers.  It also provides a raw number of fatal on-the-job injuries.  Making the top 10 most dangerous jobs for 2010, the most recent year for which data is available, are:

1.Fishers and related fishing workers, at a rate of 116 deaths per 100,000
2.Logging workers, at a rate of 91 deaths per 100,000
3.Aircraft pilots and flight engineers, at a rate of 71 deaths per 100,000
4.Farmers and ranchers, at a rate of 41 deaths per 100,000
5.Mining machine operators, at a rate of 38 deaths per 100,000
6.Roofers, at a rate of 32 deaths per 100,000
7.Refuse and recyclable material collectors, at a rate of 29 deaths per 100,000
8.Drivers / sales workers and truck drivers, at a rate of 21 deaths per 100,000
9.Industrial machinery repair and installation, at a rate of 20 per 100,000
10.Police and sheriff's patrol officers, at a rate of 19 per 100,000

A cursory glance at the rate of fatal injuries looks pretty staggering at first blush, especially for the top-rated professions of fishers, loggers and flight crews.  The problem with basing a presupposition entirely on such a rate is that the data is per capita, meaning that in smaller industries the numbers can become easily skewed.

A Numbers Game?

In the case of fishers and related fishing workers, for example, the fatality rate for 2010 was 116 deaths per 100,000 workers.  The actual number of deaths in the industry, though, was 29.  The same can be said of flight crews, who saw a fatality rate of 70, while the total number of fatalities for the industry was 78.  Compare that to the 133 deaths of law enforcement officers in 2010 or the 177 in 2011.

In these occupations, the smaller number of workers greatly affects the fatality rate; one or two accidents can easily send the rate skyrocketing, while the actual raw numbers may be significantly lower.  If we were to rank dangerous jobs based on raw numbers as a opposed to rates, the list would look like this:

1.Drivers / sales workers and truck drivers - 683
2.Farmers and ranchers - 300
3.Police and sheriff's patrol officers - 133
4.Industrial machinery repair and installation - 96
5.Aircraft pilots and flight engineers - 70
6.Roofers - 57
7.Logging workers - 59
8.Fishers and related fishing workers - 29
9.Refuse and recyclable material collectors - 26
10.Mining machine operators - 23

The Bigger Picture in Ranking Dangerous Jobs

When ordered by raw numbers, the list looks very different.  Numbers, however, still don't tell the whole story.  The simple fact is that there is one glaring difference between law enforcement officers and every other occupation on the list.  Of all the jobs listed, only police officer deaths include a significant number of murders.  That is to say that no one is trying to kill fishers or loggers or refuse collectors.

While traffic related deaths make up a large portion of police fatalities, they do not make up the majority.  Firearms and other felonious causes make up the bulk of line-of-duty deaths.  The bottom line, law enforcement professions are the only career on the list in which being murdered is actually an occupational hazard.

This point is not at all to diminish the dangers that are inherent in these other professions, but a distinction must be made.  Despite the hundreds and, in some cases thousands, of hours police officers spend in academy training, law enforcement careers remain among the most dangerous professions no matter how you rank them.

Criminal Justice Careers are Still Worth the Risk

Despite the danger, though, careers in criminal justice are both fun and rewarding.  In fact, an argument can be made that it is precisely this element of danger that entices many to the profession to begin with.

You don't have to be a thrill seeker to enjoy or succeed in law enforcement, though.  Despite the risk, it takes all kinds of people and personality types to make a police department work and to keep a community safe.  With proper and diligent training and a survival state of mind, police officers can greatly reduce their risk of injury or death and live to enjoy a long and rewarding career.

And this thread was supposed to out Kayne West for being a douchebag because he over evaluated the dangerousness of his job,  Oh Brother, Cops are far higher on the douchebag scale than Kayne.  And KAYNE IS A DOUCHEBAG OF THE HIGHEST ORDER.

I am actually "realistic cop".

I have cop friends... Good guys. Unfortunately, having those friends also means that I have seen the bad cop element.

I also take issue with the fact that cops are so quick to take away civil liberties. That's probably my biggest issue. I don't appreciate the way most cops are so nonchalant about taking people's freedoms. Especially since I was fortunate enough to be born and raised in a country that prides itself on the "perception" of allowing those freedoms over all else.

To find a cop that appreciates what their job allows and uses it with discretion is very difficult to find it seems.

This whole thread you have done nothing but ring the "look at me my job is dangerous "bell.  The list isn't flawed, policing just isn't as dangerous as you want it to be.  Police personnel often have massive insecurities, one of them is to be seen in some heroic light, if they can convince everyone else how dangerous their job is, the greater the sense of psychological satisfaction is.  The fact is, most people don't want the distinction that their job is dangerous, people don't go down huge mines thinking how great it is that their job carries with it a higher than average mortality rate.  The Police and Military seems to be the type of professions were those drawn to it NEED to believe the job is dangerous to satisfy certain EGO deficiencies they live with.

hey bro I used to feel the same way abt cops and what you say is accurate regarding their manipulation of people who don't know better into surrendering their constitutional rights and freedoms.

but then I realised, it's not the cops fault, it's the persons fault for not educating themselves on these rights and freedoms they have. the part I take exception to is when a cop resides he's not dealing with a fucking idiot and then goes into automatic dick mode simply be used your not surrendering your rights and freedoms as he has grown accustom to expect.

'can I search your vehicle?'

'no'

'why not?'

'because you don't have reasonable grounds for a search, nor probable cause or else you wouldn't be asking me to surrender my right to not be searched'

same thing when they ask to see your liscense or ID when your not operating a vehicle and you refuse. they hate an educated public and unfortunately many take exception to wanting to protect your civil liberties.

American soldiers aren't brave nor do they have much Balls. They are pretty fucking stupid though, especially considering how easily they will be shipped off to fight in illegal wars.  When you'r government is in charge of the most powerful military in the history of mankind, the soldiers who sign up for it can do so with confidence.  The people who are brave are the ones who go up against such overwhelming force with little resources.

Who knew this thread was going to expose cops and soldiers as insecure douchebags who are desperate to over exaggerate the dangerousness of their job, when that was the accusation leveled at Kayne West.

I’m not sure I am worthy to address you, although the Bureau of Labor Statistics did say I was working in the most dangerous profession. I don’t pay much attention to those things, I am humble enough to take such things in my stride. Anyway, please excuse my interference in your life for a quick second.

I read your letter to Kayne West over exaggerating how dangerous your job was ….and I think about it. I think about my family and I’m like, wow, this is like being a logger or something, or in a truly dangerous profession or something.”

I want to thankyou for putting your life on the line everyday by overindulging in donuts and fatty foods.  I know that being a cop is dangerous work, even though it doesn't rank in the Top 10 of dangerous professions.  I have tried to pretend to be a cop but it is difficult to maintain being such a douchebag for any length of time.

That last paragraph was covered in sarcasm. I’m letting you know, just so you do not think I agree with your very ignorant assessment of your career as it relates to a person in the most dangerous professions. You sir, are as misguided as they come. I do have a suggestion for you. Since you are accustomed to danger, from your life as an donut swilling pig, I am strongly encouraging you immediately to abandon you career as a super COP and become a logger. After joining, I would like you to see if you can get your fat arse up and down mountainsides to avoid the trees being sent up to the 'loader'

Your line of thinking is part of the problem in the world today….which include COPS thinking they are something more than just COPS.  I know it is supply and demand and the demand for your services is high. I get economics. What I do not get is you EVER comparing what you do for a living to our heroic working class people, who are always in harm’s way… and my brother blue collar workers who have to go to work with no weapons and or anything to protect themselves.

Check yourself, before you wreck yourself….Mr Logger

It's based on deaths per 100,000.  According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, lumbermen have the worst mortality rate of anybody, with 118 deaths per 100,000 workers. For pilots it’s 70 kills per 100,000. Alaskan bush pilots, included in the commercial pilot grouping, have an astounding one-in-eight chance of death over the course of a 30-year career.

Pure statistics never tell the whole story. Thousands of soldiers have died in the past 12 years in Afghanistan+ Iraq, with tens of thousands more being seriously injured i.e.-amputee,wheelchair, burns, and many more effected with PTSD.  This seems to be a much more dangerous job than logging or farming. A one in eight chance of dying is crazy though.

Who knew this thread was going to expose cops and soldiers as insecure douchebags who are desperate to over exaggerate the dangerousness of their job, when that was the accusation leveled at Kayne West.

the only person being exposed as a douchebag in this thread and with every post he makes on this forum is yourself.

I couldn't imagine going thru life hating everything as much as you do. I'd say I pity you but I don't. only cause your not even worthy of pity.

Police aren't protecting citizens, they're enforcers for the Elites.  And if you are happy to believe bullshit to protect your fragile ego, then feel free.  Don't expect others to believe it though.

My neighbor had a robber break into his house last week while they were sleeping. They locked the bedroom and called the police. Police came and the robber pulled a gun. Police killed the robber.

It would appear by this real life event  that some police do protect citizens.

Link to News Report please.

And this is still working for the Elites, the Police are simply upholding the system that supports private property.  Private property laws always benefit the Elites far more than the average Joe.  You have to wonder why people become so desperate to feel a need to burglarize peoples houses.  I am sure the immense inequality gap fueled by Elitism has nothing to do with it.

"When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why they are poor, they call me a communist." - Hélder Câmara

Now I am not advocating for communism, but initially the very essence of private property was that every man could own a small a parcel of land, no more than he was capable of working and as long as there was plenty left over for everyone else.  That has long since been corrupted into the greed fest we have today and a system designed for and by the Elites that virtually ensures there will be people stricken by poverty and forced to make desperate choices (like burglarizing)

If the police truly wanted to make a difference they would use their force to round up and shoot the Elites, the very people who have created a system that produces so much unnecessary crime due to the scarcity they themselves deliberately enabled.

"Civil government, so far as it is instituted for the security of property, is, in reality, instituted for the defense of the rich against the poor, or of those who have property against those who have none at all."
— Adam Smith, The Wealth of Nations, 1776

"The first man who, having enclosed a piece of ground, bethought himself of saying 'This is mine,' and found people simple enough to believe him, was the real founder of civil society. From how many crimes, wars, and murders, from how many horrors and misfortunes might not any one have saved mankind, by pulling up the stakes, or filling up the ditch, and crying to his fellows: Beware of listening to this impostor; you are undone if you once forget that the fruits of the earth belong to us all, and the earth itself to nobody." - Jean-Jacques Rousseau

No he hasn't he just watches old reruns of COPS and thinks they all deal with simple DUI's, and stuff....You don't see footage of Cops getting shot at by drug dealers, ran over by criminals with a 4000lb car. The general public has no idea how much of a SHITTY being a cop is, they make a massive 40k a year (some a LOT LESS) to work the 2nd-3rd shift. Do you have "easier" areas to patrol?, well of course but also the ones that handle say downtown Detroit, LA (gang areas) you think those guys have it made?? lol  you damn people in this thread crack me up.....

Tu, seriously...... Do you realy believe detroit cops make 6 figure salaries?... You are the one 'making things up'

Detroit cops are among the lowest paid in the nation.  Recently, because of the fiscal Irresponsibility of the cities corrupt government,, they have endured pay cuts, benefit cuts, mandatory 10 and 12 hour shifts on straight pay no tome and a half. Thats not to mention court apearances which were also reduced to straight pay. This was after they were already among the lowest paid. For many years they work without a contract because the city wont give them shit. Then it goes to arbitration for several more years. Meanwhile everybody had their hands in their pension fund and now a federal judge has sided with the city that they are not obligated to pay the pension which izs noe precedent for other cities facing bankruptcy.

U
Seriously?

First thats pre tax, pre deductions for benefits and that is top step, not day one.

so the point you are trying to make is what? That a senior officer in the lapd who works overtime should not be compensated with overtime pay, per their contract. Of course the officer has a chance at squeaking into 100grand if he busts his ass on o.t. and court.  What do you suppose that getsnyou today anyway... A guy supporting wife and kids and working every overtime shift available to provide for his family barely cracks 100 g...if you want a decent life anywhere near l.a. your going to have to pay for it.

so your point is that guys who actually go to work and put in hours beyond their shift time do not deserve the benefit of earning overtime?

First off. All salaries are pre tax so I don't see what your point is about mentioning that.

Secondly. No. They probably shouldn't collect overtime.

They get it because the union (which I think should be illegal for public sector employees) negotiated that.

My point if you would actually stay on the point was that in area of danger like LA they are compensated very well for the danger.

Follow the thread.

The discussion was that most cops don't actually put their lives out on the regular and the ones who are most likely to see danger are well compensated for it comparatively.

Also. Think about what the OT rate is on 87k.

It's high.

in the estimation of getbiggers, what % of cops will occasionally take a few bucks while they work?

Whether it be just peeling a few hundreds off a confiscation, pulling something from an item turned in, etc etc...

What % of cops have helped themelves at some point during their career?

Wow just fucking wow: they shouldn't collect overtime pay. Wow. You believe because you are a tax payer that makes you somekind of expert on peoples jobs that are funded by taxes, well you are not. You also are not an expert in labor relations and what is fair compensation just because you pay taxes.

You don't know what comparative compensation is. The list at the begining of this thread lists dangerous jobs. Many of those jobs have risks and result in alot of accidental death. Climbing a scaffold hundreds of feet has obvious dangers. I think whats obvious here, not to you though, is that in police work a possible risk is being murdered while working, being gunned down or stabbed or beaten to death by an ex-con or some other kind of psycho. No other job has that potential risk associated with it. It is unique to police work that a possibility is that you may be killed violently by another person. The list measured deaths. Since every act of violence does not end in a deth some end in cops being crippled, paralyzed, maimed, disfigured, brain dead but alive...I understand you do not want to accept this because it does not fit into your view of what is fair compensation.

For whatever reason you want to convince yourself and others that police work is a comparatively safe line of work. Maybe it makes you feel safer in your own existence to think that cops just don't face that many dangers because cops deal with society and if a cops work is so dangerous then society is dangerous and admitting that makes you feel less secure in your own day to day existence.  Let me tell you something bro, you don't know shit about what cops do or what they deserve to make. And being a tax payer doesn't change that.

Some police departments pay well. I can't speak for LAPD because I don't know what 87K a year gets you in the form of housing and cost of living in L.A. My department pays us well. We have no complaints about the money at this point. Could it be more? Sure.. would love to make more..but it could be less. Lot of citizens are struggling to make ends meet, have gotten layed off in the last 5 yrs or had other financial issues. A police officer here who wants to make 100K can bust their buts with OT and make it. Some departments pay crap.. and that's unfortunate because you often get what you pay for, and training and professionalism suffers. When I tell some people what I make they are generally surprised. It's not like when I started.

Fuck. Make up more long winded bullshit.

I don't think public sector employees should make overtime. So fucking what?

Do you realize that in most careers when you get to a certain point you become what's called "exempt"  and no longer eligible for overtime.

Here's a fun fact for you.

Cops in NY were writing tons of tickets and collecting overtime for going to court.

When they removed the overtime, the tickets for bullshit crimes dropped drastically.

When you can write a ticket to pay yourself overtime there's a problem.

Of course you think I'm just hating on cops. But I'm not. I think all public sector employees should be exempt. No overtime.

I don't care if you're a cop or a ditch digger.

If you want a place that pays overtime, then go work in the private sector.

Of course they make overtime at court...its a function of their job the is mandatory and goes on outside of their 40 hour work week. If a cop gets subpoenad by court, it is not an option as to wether or not he gos and testifies, hes bound by the court. The court decides if he's needed four an appearance not the officer....That aside court subpoenas are sent with little notice so these guys who are already working power shift or swing shifts HAVE to drop whatever the fuck it is they are doing in the middle of their day or night as the case may ge, often find child care and make a mandatory court appearance under order of a judge. its job related so it is under their contract of they make overtime for it. It doesent matter if it is a traffic ticket or a murder trial the inconvenience and intrusion on their life outside of their regular work hours is compensated as overtime.

I suppose its irrelevant to you that those traffic tickets were actually deserved. In your mind its just a racket to make money. doesn't really matter if the person was actually driving like a maniac. In your mind its just a racket for the cops and traffic citations are bullshit.

Your saying you disagree and you make shit up to support your opinion. Im telling you the way that it is and why it is. You can either listen  or just continue to talk out of your ass. It works just fine and ts fair labor practice.

I've not made up anything.

Was I incorrect. Sure. But not by much ( in your mind 87k must be 1/2 of 100k) and I certainly don't think I'm wrong.

I don't get paid to go to court and if I get summoned to court it's not fucking optional either, so why are  cops special?

You can argue it all you want but what this shows me is that you're a cop and you don't want your overtime taken away. Who gives a damn? I don't.

Nothing you have said speaks of labor laws and negotiations. It's just more union bullshit which in a PUBLIC SECTOR job should be illegal.

Cry me a river.

The bottom line is that public sector unions crush free market economics and create burdens on the tax payers. That's all there is to it.

Don't get so emotional there big guy... I'm talking sound fiscal government policy and you're talking with your own personal wallet.

First,  for you to suggest that detroit cops make six figures a year IS some bullshit you made up. Its a ridiculous ,isinformed statement that is entirely untrue. The only place you got that info from is your own head. Therefore you made that shit up. Oh and I guess 87k in your mind = 100K?

Second (and I have no idea why I have to explain this to you, but since you asked)....Of course you wouldn't get paid overtime for responding to a court subpoena. Why in the fuck would your job pay you overtime if you go out and get a traffic ticket or get arrested and have to appear in court?  I guess that shit makes sense in your mind too. Thats an absurd point to make and has no relevance.

third your rant against 'public sector' is merley your opinion and not 'sound fiscal policy.' You say that as if public sector employees are exempt from paying taxes....lol... My finances are just fine. My job is just fine. Collective bargaining is just fine. My wallet is just fine. I would venture to say that your city taxes are not the burden you are crying about and I would also say that the bulk of your tax dollars aren't going to employees who actually have a job and go to work and have the nerve to earn their money but more likely those dollars are being squandered on a multitude of welfare reforms that benefit people who don't work and live off of the government teet.

It seems like you come up with these counterpoints without actually thinking through the meaning of what you are saying. I don't know why you would suggest some of the things you suggest other than to be argumentative.

First, yes... 87K with overtime is EASILY 100K, but if you want to keep harping on "Detroit", sure, I can say I didn't have a clue what Detroit cops made... because I've never lived in Detroit.

Los Angeles though, I do know about.

Second... I have zero option to skip court if I'm summoned... EVEN IF THE CASE ISN'T MY OWN. If I'm listed as a fucking witness for someone else's bullshit, I STILL have to go and while I PERSONALLY don't lose any money... I don't make any extra for it either... So why you don't seem to get the fact that you are the ONLY person getting overtime in that court room is pretty special.

Next... my rant is not against public sector employees making a wage... It's pretty specific... It's OVERTIME... So keep it in mind... OVERTIME is not some "right" and it's not some thing that EVERYONE gets... There are a TON of jobs that the people in them do not get overtime... Why you seem to think that it's some right for you and your tax burden brethren is pretty appalling.

So pay close attention tax burden... I'm not saying you don't deserve your salary... I'm saying you don't deserve overtime and you sure as hell don't deserve to be able to write tickets to force you into that overtime.

But here's the rub... all I can do is keep on voting and maybe, just maybe, this country and the people in it will eventually wake up and realize you aren't there for THEM... You and I both know you aren't here "for the people".

I digress though... The bottom line is that until I can convince other people (and it's happening slowly but surely in this country) that your group doesn't deserve overtime like a good percentage of people in this country don't get, then you'll keep sucking down those dollars.

You do your thing and I'll do mine and hopefully one day, I'll get it done.... Either that, or you and your public sector types will bankrupt the local governments until they have to hire outside police contractors to do the job. (Like they've started doing in Detroit. Something about Detroit I do know)

I can't speak for Detroit or LAPD. We don't get overtime for court in many cases. Court dates are scheduled on our days of work. However, IF overtime is required (And example would be a night shift officer works his 10 hrs but is required to be at court at 10 am then the overtime is paid by the court, which gets the funds from the fines. I'm having a hard time getting upset about an officer getting OT when it's a federal law that working over X amount of hours per week, or X amount of hours per day mandates overtime for an hourly employee.

That federal law is sidestepped by companies and "exceptions" all of the time.

However, salaried employees are not hourly employees right?

We agree there.

Are you a salaried employee or an hourly employee?

From what I hear, cops back in the day (30+ years ago) were respectable. People looked up to them.

Now they are a bunch of overweight, power driven assholes.

Myself and about 80 other employees are salaried. We get no overtime. The other 1700 are hourly

What level do you switch from hourly to salary?

I find it peculiar that they list a lot of police positions as "a salary" and yet they work an hourly wage.

Lieutenant and above are salaried. Sergeant and below are hourly

Here it is called "Exempt" and Non Exempt" employees. We all get paid an hourly rate, but Exempt are not eligible to recieve overtime

That's the way it is here too.

When I worked for State Government, even the "exempt" people got overtime... And talk about milking it.

When I was there I could get paid for every hour I was just on call... Even if I didn't do anything, I got paid.

I know a guy who bought a BMW 3 series in CASH with just his "on-call" overtime money... Talk about a racket.

Things have tightened up over the years, especially since the downturned economy in the last decade. Our on call people get compensated with 8 hrs comp time for a week of being on call. They pay double time and a half for officers who have to work Christmas day. Unti a few years ago you would have people changing their schedule in the back office so they could work Christmas day and get the money. That was a waste of tax payer money and it was stopped. No doubt there are people who will take advantage of the situation in every walk of life

in the estimation of getbiggers, what % of cops will occasionally take a few bucks while they work?

Whether it be just peeling a few hundreds off a confiscation, pulling something from an item turned in, etc etc...

What % of cops have helped themelves at some point during their career?
honestly don't know about other places..but my prct. Had over 450 cops in it( yes more than some departments but we had 30,000 cops in the NYPD spread over 75 pcts, and specialized units) can honestly say that I only knew 100% that we had 2 dirty cops. Could there have been more..yes..doubt it..the penalty( jail, losing job, pension) far outweighed the money to be taken off these petty drug dealers(and I was a super active cop who was bribed over 250,000 to let a guy go who I caught with a kilo..took him in recorded the bribe on tape and charged him with that besides the drugs, also caught 2 desperadoes who robbed a drug den and made off with over 650,000 cash money..every cent was vouchered by me and my partner..not a holy roller but taking money/drugs just wasn't my thing!

Same experience here.. 1700+ cops and would be surprised if more than a couple were dirty. We fired a cop this year for getting free tickets for a movie by implying he worked on the contract for the theater. So it would really have to be significant to get anyone to bite. Now if I found a duffle bag full of cash while walking through the desert....
