Title: dieting on 1500 calories per day for 6-8 weeks!
Post by: ratherbebig on January 03, 2019, 02:23:20 PM
i will soon start my diet

its no rocket science

week 1-2 = 2000 calories

week 3-4 = 1700 calories

week 5-6 = 1400 calories

thats it. i figure thats enough to get if not a six pack, then at least a flat stomach and thats good enough.

ill try to keep it simple. 3 meals a day tops. probably wont care so much as long as i hit the no of calories. dont want to complicate things.

not sure, i just got a little bit of a belly i want to get rid of before im trying to put on muscle

problem is, as many of you knows, is stomach tends to grow along with everything else when bulking, and im not too found of that so i reckon ill try to stay somewhat flat during bulking phase and take it slower

You'll have to put on even more muscle after you lose half of it with you starvation diet.

dropping a few hundred calories every two weeks for a total of only 6 weeks, i dont think ill lose that much

im not doing a 3-4 month diet thats for sure...

ive made some changes.

instead of lowering every other week ill stick to the same no of calories every week. i dont know where i picked up that adjusting every week or other week was a good idea, should be easier just having the same every day, less complicated.

roughly 1500 calories per day.
50% protein
25% fats
25% carbs

thats like 1 big meal and a couple of protein shakes. real simple.

You plan to diet on 1500 cals and train twice a week? Dude just go back on the chips and booze, don’t bother. The results will both be shit

the number of calories you diet on depends on your weight. naturally if i were 300 pounds i would not diet on 1500 calories.

as for training, it's the type of training you can expect while dieting, you maintain.

Just lower carbs to 100g a day. Eat all the natural fats and protein you want. You’ll get lean and retain myscle.

That's pretty much what I'm doing right now.  Mostly chicken and veggies with a little brown rice, so my carbs are under 100 a day.  I'm guessing I'm eating around 1,800 cals or so, but it's not like I'm really counting or anything.  Just eating til I'm full

thats the number i get when i calcuate the numbers.

ive been lower before. no big deal for me. eating more than 150 grams of protein per day is though. especially if you dont drink milk, use protein powder, eat chicken, tuna, sardines and what not.

1500 calories might be a bit low, realistically 1700... today is the first day! so far so good. well its more a mental thing than anything... that you CANT eat what you want... im not even sure that i want to, but the fact that i just cant go grab a burger... thats very un-free-ing (if thats a word)

i measured my waist its about 34"

if u reduce your lifting volume you loose muscle, hence youre back where you started.....

Heres the key, get your body used to doing a certain amount of volume on high calories

Now replace as many calories as possible with protien without cutting calories and maintain 80 to 90 percent of your volume in the gym....you will lose very little muscle maintaining 90% volume

other than that no problems... im probably around 1700 calories per day. just eating one large meal per day is no problem.

i suppose im on some kinda fast if you wanna call it that... i dont eat until lunch and i dont eat after midnight

My diet was fairly tight but I did indulge here and there, kept my carbs at about 350-400. Started yesterday by just cleaning it up for the next couple of weeks. Like I said, since the end of March I went from 236 to my lowest at the end of Sept to 206 now back up to 218-220 fairly lean. Don't know where I'll compete at but looking somewhere around 202-205.

When not dieting it's fuck me ive gotten so fat. The next day they start a diet and it's i can't cut calories because ill lose all my muscle lol.

Hasnt this starvatio  shit been debunked enough? It's 2019 FFS, year of the youtube. Normal non juiced to the gills Joe doesnt lose gobs of muscle, just gobs of water and fat.

They're treating morbidly obese with fasting diets because its effective all the way down without killing metabolism.

Galeniko and no_one were on the right track a decade ago and been proven right meanwhile the calorie is a calorie has been proven an utter failure for average joe. Even Jenny Craig dumped the point system because they were all eating 100 points of cake each day lol.

Galeniko recommended carb cycling (a carb up once every 3-4 days) which still seems one of the rarest recommendations. Its always keto this or hclf that. I don't know of any popular system that advocates carb cycling.

At your height why don’t you keep an athletic 175-180 max?

Look at Tito Raymond these days, he’s the same height as you weighing 175. Looks real good, very lean and athletic, don’t understand why some people love being bulky on a short frame

Both were also on gear, but “no_one” had a great physique, they both actually do, dieted on two meals a day, if that, ate anything they wanted and fasted, that was it

Both were 6 ft plus too, lean and athletic shape

At that weight, it would be unhealthy for me to get that low. At 218-220 I'm right around 8-9% if that. At 175-180 my entire metabolic system would be in the shitter from lack of muscle.

No, discipline, training, diet, etc... Does juice help, most definitely.  I challenge any of you, especially at his age, to try this.  Hard as hell.

Thank's XFACTOR, and this is pretty much it. Of course I'm not going to lie and tell you I'm not on, I clearly am, but the order that XFACTOR it is, is exactly that. Since last year, I've had the time, the money and resources to do my training right...like clockwork. On the thread "what did you eat yesterday" the meals I write in that is EXACTLY what I eat every day.

My recovery is sleep (I'm in bed by pretty much 9;15-9:30 every night and I'm up by 5:30am. I also Normatech and hypervolt among other things (message, scraping, ice bath, etc) at my age recovery is #1.

The way you see me train in my vids is the way I train every day. I don't play up just because I'm doing a video.

Inexperienced bodybuilding read this above. Sleep is super key. Man, if I don’t get 7-8 hours I’m sore. Good food+ good sleep= fast recovery. I underestimated sleep for a long time.

One cautionary tale. I use to correspond with Casey Viator. He told me all his medical tests came back perfect. I wrote him the tests were important but there was more to knowing if you have good health than blood tests. I meant no malice in saying that but I guess it might have felt like I was challenging his faith in the tests and that his health was okay. Shortly after I heard he died from a heart attack at 62.

You can still have low cholesterol, low triglycerides, low blood sugar and still drop dead from a heart attack/stroke. So many care about muscles they can show off but the heart muscle  should be trained hard too. Some risk factors outside of blood tests is blood pressure, resting heart rate, blood pressure, excessive body weight, hard inflexible arteries, visceral fat, blood viscosity and some other factors like how fast does your heart rate return to normal after exertion.

I think after 55 if health isn't a consideration with bodybuilding you are skating on thin ice.

If I remember correctly, I saw a pic of Casey right before he passed. At his age, it looked like he was still trying to play the old school bodybuilding game of "bulking up" and at that time you can tell his eating habits were not good. He looked extremely unhealthy and very overweight. It looked like he never kept up with the times of being a healthy bodybuilder drugs aside. That day and age was eat everything insight to get big, then fish and water to lose fat (a little exaggerated but not far off). There was no in between.

Done correctly. non-competitive bodybuilding is one of the healthiest modalities of lifestyle there is.

Yes he did look very over weight. I think that's what prompted the discussion about health with him. I heard he use to smoke too. Don't know if he did his whole adult life. Who knows how many decades he cycled steroids either. I could drop dead tomorrow but I try to keep the risk factors down. Arnold, Franco and Zane always went up in weight training for contest. I do know a lot of old school bodybuilders did the opposite. They bulked up and came down for a contest. Sounds so unhealthy.

Coming up on 12 weeks out. This was taken today. Sorry for the bad quality pic, I don't have professional photographers and videographers following me around. If you're observant enough you can tell by my right side I'm dealing with a shoulder issue that re-occurred last week but I'm confident the asymmetry will be resolved within the next couple of weeks. I'm sitting at 217 actually gaining muscle.

No, discipline, training, diet, etc... Does juice help, most definitely.  I challenge any of you, especially at his age, to try this.  Hard as hell.

You have to understand the context.  He is suggesting he couldn't possibly be at a lower weight, because it would be unhealthy.  What a load of shit.  It'd be real fucking easy to get to that weight and be healthy if he wasn't taking steroids.

Juice is mandatory for him to be 220 at that condition and height without steroids.  So, not "No", yes.

Discipline, training, diet - easier than made out to be.  Tough to start, easy to continue.

It has to be talked about though as it is the biggest factor in bodybuilding.

It's been talked about ad nauseam. Just assume that it's used but don't make an ass of yourselves trying to prove a point. It's no use in trying to have a rational discussion with most of the posters who have never trained for bodybuilding, competed, dieted, took gear (but will drink, smoke weed, snort coke, smoke cigarettes or just take recreational drugs or just flat out fat) or trained hard enough, etc but will criticize others by what they read on the boards or my favorite..."I have a friend who said" or "I know someone who trained with so and so and he said..." when in reality they don't know their ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to it.

Honestly, Getbig is the LEAST bodybuilding friendly site as far as bodybuilding sites go. Go right down at least the first page of the G&O and tell me how many, at the very least training related subjects.

The G&O is about gossip and opinions.  There is a training, diet and nutrition, bodybuilding history, women's bodybuilding, powerlifting and steroids sections exclusively for those subjects.

I used 1 cycle of Sustanon in 1997 and gained 25lbs.  Up until that point I had trained for years and not gained close to that even using heavy squats, deadlifts, strongman routines, powerlifting routines, 20 rep squat routines, Big Beyond Belief, Titan Training System, Bulgarian Powerburst Training, HIT, along with dozens of routines in the magazines.  If the internet had been around when I was a teenager I would have saved myself a lot of wasted effort along with thousands of dollars of worthless supplements.  I'm guessing there are many here that share my opinion and this is why we bust the balls of those who compete or just brag about physiques that are drug assisted.  All of those who use want to play it down like it doesn't do much for them when we all know that is false.

Earlier Nick's Strength & Health Youtube video was posted of him showing his preparation for a natural contest and how he went from 220 down to 147 to compete.  That is what a natural really shrinks down to when dieting without the drugs.

You're trying to discredit using general gripes - but I didn't say you were a fool, or being unhealthy or any of that.

You made out like you couldn't possibly be that weight on stage.   I pointed out that that's because you're on steroids, right? (a fact I wasn't actually fully aware of, either way).  You could easily be that weight on stage.  You'd just cut your dosages.

I've been back at Golds since the beginning of October usually 3-4 days a week. Yeah, the daily fees are high ($40)  but I'm paying for the membership for my wife and I. I Have my music narrowed down to two songs which both work well with my routine.

Falling (Alicia Keys) or Carry me Away (Cypress Hill)

I've had a week of severe indigestion. I've been bloated and have had very bad stomach pains with a lot of gas. My appetite is non existent. This is probably my version of the flu, which my grandson gifted our household with. As a result, my weight has plummeted. This morning I weighed 163.5 lbs. This is almost a 10 lb. loss from the prior week.

I've never had the flu (or a flu shot) before, as best I know, so this might not be what's been going on. I doubt food poisoning would last a week, but who knows? My symptoms are 85% better today. That's good news.

That's good news.
its indigestion from lack of salads and beans

I've been back at Golds since the beginning of October usually 3-4 days a week. Yeah, the daily fees are high ($40)  but I'm paying for the membership for my wife and I. I Have my music narrowed down to two songs which both work well with my routine.

Falling (Alicia Keys) or Carry me Away (Cypress Hill)
$40 for a 1 day pass? :o  Good luck at the contest and keep your sanity for the next 9 weeks.

Usually yes. Lots of tourists that come through but they don’t pay just to tour the gym.

Swimming & diving trough the waves of 2-3 m for hours is a killer workout , or diving under waves ........... ;)

after 2-3 hours of that enjoyment you'll be starving & exhausted ............ ;D

visit Hawaii or Australia for 6 months & you could get ripped .............

swimming in flat/calm waters (& pools) sucks , no much body resistance ...............

I like how steroid users say they can't lose anymore body weight because their body fat level is so low. Maybe true but for how long will you be at that body weight and leaness without using steroids? You have to come off at some time. You can't stay on drugs year round year for years and not hurt your health.

As I previously wrote I have never dieted for more than a week in my whole life. I always could out work my diet.  No more. I'm tempted to start a diet soon and use pictures. Since I'm a true natural I'm sure no one would be impressed to see.  I had a testosterone blood test years ago and I was border line low so a doc put me on clomid for two months. Another doctor said it was insane that  he put me on that so I threw the pills in the garbage.

i find dieting pretty easy and im real low on calories.

lot of people diet on 2000-2500 caloriers per day, that's like 3 full meals, hard to see how that can be a problem

$40 for a 1 day pass? :o  Good luck at the contest and keep your sanity for the next 9 weeks.

it used to be $10, then $20 (since ive going last several years) now $40.... it keeps out the tourist, plus ppl who drive to golds will pay $40 to train there. i had too last time as well. its $120-$140 for a month which ive done.

hell a drop in  yoga session is $20-$40 (when you add in towel matt) so $40 i can justify if im there for the random session.

Man, every time you post about the cost of living out there I am just completely blown away.

Granted, I joined 24 on a 3yr PIF when they were trying to raise capital for $699 with an ANNUAL renewal rate of $29 w/access to all of their clubs.  It's the one bill that I truly love paying every year.  Every time it comes in the mail I get a huge smile on my face, and a little chuckle comes out of my mouth in disbelief that they actually honored that.  It just came up this month, and I paid it yesterday over the phone.....$31.04 with tax, and I'm good for an entire year!!! 8)

How many weeks out are you now Coach?

we'll need a three site skinfold

4 site is better, and can be done on your own pretty easily.  Here's a site that figures it out for you.
http://www.dietandfitnesstoday.com/skinfold4Site.php

Here's a cheap caliper.  I've gotten measured with a Skydex digital, and there is not much difference if you/the person testing you knows what their doing and is consistent with where you/they grab https://www.amazon.com/Sequoia-Caliper-Body-Measure-White/dp/B01HN6UMBK/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_5_sspa?crid=VRG5VDSSFMQA&keywords=sequoia%2Btrimcal&qid=1553400338&s=gateway&sprefix=sequoia%2Btrim%2Caps%2C184&sr=8-5-fkmrnull-spons&th=1

There's also a 7 site if you have someone to do your axilla, and subscapula  http://www.dietandfitnesstoday.com/skinfold7Site.php

Just make a spreadsheet that has a column with weight, then bf % (you'll plug in what the site tells you), then fat weight ( formula = weight x bf excel cells), then lbm (formula = weight - fat weight excel cells)

Just copy and past the whole section for as many weeks as your diet is, and plug in the info as you go each week and it does everything for you! 8)

-Probably not. I eat salad for lunch most days. I enjoy eating beans of all types. They are included in my regular diet. Didn't eat them last week though. If I had, I would have been hanging out up in the sky with helium balloons.  :)

since i cant screw up the numbers too much that means this will be 6-8 weeks of no candy, soft drinks, potato chips etc and very little alcohol i guess i have to stay with vodka or something with few calories   :D

training is limited to twice a week.

Trust me when I tell you this is a bad plan :-X

Just cut the alcohol out altogether...you're only dieting for 6-8 weeks FFS! ::)

Alcohol often gets mistaken by people as a carb, because when think alcohol and calories they think of beer....and regular beer does have carbs and carbs are 4cals/grm.  Alcohol on the other hand is 7cals/grm....it metabolizes much closer to fat than it does a carb.  You also have to factor in that alcohol is a toxin (aka your body sees it as a poison).  That means your metabolism of food cals is going to be fucked, because your body is more concerned with processing and ridding itself of alcohol (aka poison), then it is about shuttling carbs, protein, and fat to the right places to be used and broken down.  That's  part of the reason when a person drinks too much the night before they end up with the shits or vomitting their food up.

I just stumbled onto this thread last night when I saw Coach had bumped it.  I thought this was a thread about his contest prep, and after I replied it knocked me back to the main screen and I saw that this was actually your thread.

So, in exchange for the free advice/info I just gave you; can you please save me the time of reading 6 pages and enlighten me as to why you're doing this....and more importantly wtf you are going about it in the way you've described in your first few posts?  You've been here long enough to know better than this.....unless you just consider everyone that has a post like mine that is longer than 3 sentences to not be worth your time to read, and if that's the case then you can own your failure of this endeavor of yours.

I didn't think about that.  I forgot you're not training at your own place anymore.  Shit between writing those memberships off, and not having a lease you're probably doing better $-wise, and have less headaches to deal with!  Win-win!

I'm officially 9 weeks out from yesterday but I'll be ready a week before so I like to think I'm 8 weeks out

Put your official date out of your head for another few weeks, and stay with that mind frame!

I'm on the comeback trail, so I need a fellow midget who is also old to inspire me that it can still be done.  I'm not lookin to do anything like you're doing, or anything beyond my trt, but I do want to get back to around 180-185 at around 9% which would be 12-17lbs less than when I felt I was my best.  Keep grindin dude.....good luck! 8)

p.s. - you're actually an older fart than me....just sayin....  ;)
(*cuz it makes me feel better about being old :'()

p.p.s - almost forgot.....how much % difference is there typically doing hydro vs. 7 site bf test?

takes longer to get where i want to be, but i think thats pretty typical, people underestimate the amount of bodyfat they carry and how long it will take to lose it.

Have you had your bf tested, and do you keep getting it done every week or two to make sure you're not losing muscle?  I have no idea what you weigh or how tall you are, but I'm a fucking midg, and under 200 and that's as low as I would go with cals if I ever did a show.....and that would be on basically zero carb days.

If you're not doing bf%, and just tracking weigh you should have lost a good amount by now...it'll be 3 months for you two weeks from today.

Since coming back to post I've realized a lot of peeps on here still are old now, and many stuck reliving their glory days (self included)....it's the perfect time of year for us all to get at it.  Although some honesty, and humility would be needed and that's never really been getbig's strong suit :-X

We never factor in "calories burned through nervous energy and prep anxiety." No matter how many shows you have done this variable is very real. 2960 clean... is a big number. That should be enough.

I know you have to make 198.5   Don't worry, you'll make that number easily.

We are watching.

One thing I don't have are small joints

Well, being dieted down to where you're at helps create an illusion I'm sure, but based off of that pic of your legs your knees appear to be much tinier than mine.  That's one of the reasons I never competed was my bone structure.  Everyone in the gym always said I should compete, but my first real training partner was an older dude that won the bantamweight Continental USA, and his joints were so tiny it made him look 20lbs bigger than me when he was in a tank or shorts on leg day.....and he was actually 10 lbs lighter than me.

That experience/reason, and Momo dying right when people had me convinced to do one are why I never decided to "prove" myself on a stage.

Momo, Labrada, and Priest are my favorites for an obvious reason, and after reading about Porter trying to save him I just thought "no way is a plastic trophy worth it to me to be messing around with diuretics when I have no shot of winning anything beyond a local (maybe regional) show"
