Cliff notes?

Since plants cannot defend themselves like animals (running away, claws, etc), they have developed toxins that slowly or quickly poison animals that eat them.

Examples: poison berries, hemlock, nightshade, etc.

So, don't eat plants.

Cliff notes?

most plants contain toxins
Example, apple seeds contain cyanide

Most seeds contain some degree of cyanide
Almonds contain cyanide, 400gms of almonds can kill you

You really don't need to eat plants or plant derived foods.

Meat has lots of vitamins in it.

There's a lot of cyanide in leaves, too. Particularly laurel bush leaves which are far easier to concentrate to make cyanide with; especially in the UK where getting hold of anything is a ball ache. You may notice that trimming hedges in summer can make you feel light headed for no reason after a while on a humid summer day. :)

Yeah plants can be toxic as hell but our bodies are designed to handle them in moderation and actually build up immunity/tolerances from exposure. I guess that don't work for poison berries. Stuff like gelsemium, a chinese herb, can shut your heart down even as a fit healthy young man.

It's like one of those things: I like to go straight to the source of something and deal with it 100%... Similar situation to buying liquid drain cleaner for ripoff prices which does half a job compared to getting Caustic Soda direct and mixing it yourself for a proper job.

It has its uses, cyanide does for the garden/pests.

Also: you never know when your past is coming to catch up with you. Always keep some handy just in case those pesky human rights people come knocking ;)

These dudes spit the truth regarding nutrition, real nutrition not this shit these bodybuilders eat, cream of rice, pop tarts, egg whites and protein powders. Personalizing Protein Nourishment

Differences in protein digestibility among sources derive partially from matrix effects. Within a food source, other components alter the overall digestibility of the proteins.

Some plant foods contain anti-nutritional factors that decrease protein digestibility.

Legumes, cereals, potatoes and tomatoes contain inhibitors that reduce protein digestibility by blocking trypsin, pepsin and other gut proteases (Savelkoul et al., 1992; Liener, 1994; Friedman and Brandon, 2001). Cereal grains and legume seeds contain tannins (polyphenols) that bind strongly to dietary proteins and digestive enzymes, thus inhibiting protein digestion (Jansman, 1993; Jansman et al., 1994). Nuts, seeds and grains contain phytic acid (Lott et al., 2002), which chelates minerals such as calcium and zinc. As these minerals are necessary cofactors for digestive enzymes (e.g., alkaline phosphatase, carboxypeptidases and aminopeptidases), phytic acid in foods reduces overall protein digestibility (Ryden and Selvendran, 1993). Many legumes and alliums contain saponins, which form part of the plant’s defense system (Francis et al., 2002). These saponins reduce protein digestibility by forming saponin-protein complexes (Potter et al., 1993). Likewise, many plant proteins are surrounded by complex carbohydrates (non-starch polysaccharides or fiber)—often as cell wall components—that can impede enzyme access to the proteins (Duodu et al., 2003).

The abundance of anti-nutritional factors and complex carbohydrates in plant protein sources likely explains their overall lower digestibility than that of typical animal proteins.

Lead and Cadmium Could Be in Your Dark Chocolate

Consumer Reports found dangerous heavy metals in chocolate from Hershey's, Theo, Trader Joe's and other popular brands.

December 15, 2022

For 23 of the bars, eating just an ounce a day would put an adult over a level that public health authorities and CR’s experts say may be harmful for at least one of those heavy metals. Five of the bars were above those levels for both cadmium and lead.

That’s risky stuff: Consistent, long-term exposure to even small amounts of heavy metals can lead to a variety of health problems. The danger is greatest for pregnant people and young children because the metals can cause developmental problems, affect brain development, and lead to lower IQ, says Tunde Akinleye, the CR food safety researcher who led this testing project.

“But there are risks for people of any age,” he says. Frequent exposure to lead in adults, for example, can lead to nervous system problems, hypertension, immune system suppression, kidney damage, and reproductive issues. While most people don’t eat chocolate every day, 15 percent do, according to the market research firm Mintel. Even if you aren’t a frequent consumer of chocolate, lead and cadmium can still be a concern.

It can be found in many other foods—such as sweet potatoes, spinach, and carrots—and small amounts from multiple sources can add up to dangerous levels. That’s why it’s important to limit exposure when you can.

Some of the same concerns may extend to products made with cocoa powder—which is essentially pure cocoa solids—such as hot cocoa, and brownie and cake mixes, though they have varying amounts of cacao and possibly heavy metals.

The researchers found that cacao plants take up cadmium from the soil, with the metal accumulating in cacao beans as the tree grows. That’s similar to how heavy metals contaminate some other foods.

But lead seems to get into cacao after beans are harvested. The researchers found that the metal was typically on the outer shell of the cocoa bean, not in the bean itself. Moreover, lead levels were low soon after beans were picked and removed from pods but increased as beans dried in the sun for days. During that time, lead-filled dust and dirt accumulated on the beans.

Don’t assume organic dark chocolates are safer. In CR’s tests, they were just as likely as other products to have concerning levels of heavy metals.

fruit contains seeds, animals eat the fruit and excrete the seeds later, away from the mother plant, helping the plant to propagate and spread.

OK now do meat & dairy  ;D

I could be convinced that a diet of wild, 'natural' meat and animal products is healthy but the hormone & antibiotic laden stuff wrapped in plastic at the supermarket is best consumed in moderation

Dr. Eric Westman at Duke University has treated thousands of patients successfully for over 20 years for obesity, diabetes, insulin resistance, hypertension, infertility (PCOS), GERD, fatty liver, and other metabolic conditions using a very meat heavy, very low plant, keto diet.

His patients tend to be low income and uneducated, so they eat the stuff from the supermarket and even 100% beef patties from fast food restaurants.  Yet they resolve their health issues and their health improves on this diet like no surgery or medication could ever do.

Anything more would make this diet available only to the elite.

Humans ate far more meat before agriculture, but now:

The Number of People With Chronic Conditions Is Rapidly Increasing

In 2000, 125 million Americans had one or more chronic conditions. This number is projected to increase by more than one percent each year through 2030. Between 2000 and 2030 the number of Americans with chronic conditions will increase by 37 percent, an increase of 46 million people.
https://smhs.gwu.edu/sites/default/files/ChronicCareChartbook.pdf

India is the country with the highest plant-based food consumption and lowest meat consumption in the world, and it’s one of the countries with the shortest life expectancy in the world.  India has a high prevalence of chronic diseases across all age groups too such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, pulmonary disease, cancers, and mental health disorders.

Hong Kong has the longest life expectancy in the world. Hong Kong also has the highest meat consumption in the world, consisting of mainly beef and pork.

This has always been my concern.  Thanks for posting this. Keto is an easy diet to follow but can get expensive. It's easy to find cheap protein/fat sources but knowing  it's heavily processed "mechanically seperated chicken" and god knows what other fillers and preservatives always leaves me wondering if it mitigates  the benefits.

Publix, if there is one near you, has a Standing Rib Roast sale a few times per year, around $6/lb.  You can have the butcher slice it into steaks for you at no extra cost.  Then you can grill them like ribeye steaks.

My ex used to tell me that. "Buy thighs instead" (to bulk up).

But when you look at the nutr.data/facts, breasts have a decent amount more protein (% wise) vs thighs and only a touch less calories. As for fat, my shakes have a shitload of it.

I'll stick with breasts. Have a couple in the fridge which I'll cook tomorrow with frozen veggies, rice, teriyaki sauce..

It's not about bulking up.  It's about getting enough fat in your diet.

You don't have to worry about micro-managing protein intake on keto.

What you need to make sure of is getting enough fat.

However, for you it is irrelevant since you are not doing keto.

If you are not doing keto you will have to manage your caloric intake to keep your bodyfat levels in check as your body will use carbs for energy.

A well formulated keto diet is neither high protein nor low protein.  It's moderate protein, high fat, very low carb.

How much protein you need and how much will take you out of ketosis is a very individual thing that one must figure out, and it can change from day to day depending on a number of variables.  For many people it's about 30% of their daily calories from protein.

If you are in ketosis, gluconeogenesis will use fat as well as protein to make glucose, not just protein.  Ketones are muscle sparing too.  This along with consuming highly bioavailable animal protein, saturated fat, and cholesterol means you'll probably need less protein to build/maintain muscle while in ketosis.

Many individuals are predisposed to autoimmune disorders, which are activated by a plethora of triggers such as climate, poor diet/lifestyle choices, lack of exercise, increased levels of stress, and/or lack of adequate sleep."

carbs are protein sparing

eat carbs

you're welcome

So are ketones.

"Although more long-term studies are needed before a firm conclusion can be drawn, it appears, from most literature studied, that a VLCARB is, if anything, protective against muscle protein catabolism during energy restriction, provided that it contains adequate amounts of protein."

I'm unconvinced and it's more conspiracy stuff. Imagine the scale of the coverup if all the world's vegans die exceptionally young. Ghandi was 78 when he got shot. Nazi scientists were top notch yet they let Adolf be vegetarian.

I'm carnivorous as hell but vegetables are not bad for you. The guy is a crank.

Doesn't brocolli has anti cancer properties?

Rhonda Patrick has good stuff on sulphoraphane.

There are worse things than death, such as living for decades in pain and suffering from chronic disease, depression, and mental illness.

The Number of People With Chronic Conditions Is Rapidly Increasing

"In 2000, 125 million Americans had one or more chronic conditions. This number is projected to increase by more than one percent each year through 2030. Between 2000 and 2030 the number of Americans with chronic conditions will increase by 37 percent, an increase of 46 million people."
https://smhs.gwu.edu/sites/default/files/ChronicCareChartbook.pdf

Ghandi was 78 when he got shot. Nazi scientists were top notch yet they let Adolf be vegetarian.

Ghandi is an exception to the norm and not representative to the Indian population.

Hong Kong also has the highest meat consumption in the world, mainly beef and pork.

Nazi scientist didn't "let" Hitler eat vegetarian.  Hitler did whatever he wanted to do.  Hitler died too young to judge his long term health and longevity.  He could have suffered from a number of chronic diseases for all we know.

Her take on the vax was way off imo but whatever.

Pretty sure the crushing poverty in India would be a factor. Blaming everything on eating vegetables seems like a stretch.

Vegetables being bad for you seems like a thing that would have become common knowledge over tens of thousands of years. How is this rare wisdom being magnified suddenly?

You are the one who brought up the filthy pedo, Gandhi.   :D

He was very poor too, yet lived to age 78, as you said.

Poverty might be a factor, but if plant-based foods are so good for health and animal-based foods so bad, you'd think the country with the highest plant-based food consumption and lowest animal-based food consumption wouldn't be one of the countries with the shortest life expectancy and highest levels of chronic disease too, despite their poverty.

Vegetables being bad for you seems like a thing that would have become common knowledge over tens of thousands of years. How is this rare wisdom being magnified suddenly?

This has been common knowledge for thousands of years:  Soaking raw beans in water overnight before cooking in order lower their lectin levels, cooking spinach and kale in order to lower their oxalate and goitrogen levels before eating large quantities, etc.

Farmers have known for thousands of years to keep their animals away from certain plants in order to protect them from disease:

Goiter in Animals

"Certain plants may produce goiter when ingested in sufficient amounts, especially in the absence of adequate iodine intake. Soybeans are most notable, but cabbage, rape, kale, and turnips all contain less potent goitrogens. Cooking or heating (and the usual processing of soybean meal) destroys the goitrogenic substance in these plants."

Anecdotally while I was on a strict keto diet for about 3 1/2 years my joints felt great. Switched to a protein/carb diet this past spring in order to gain some size. During that time it was either my shoulder, or my elbow aching constantly.  As soon as one felt better the other would flare up.

It is well established that being in a state of ketosis is very anti-inflammatory.  That is one of the ways in which the keto diet successfully reduces seizures in children with epilepsy.

On the other hand, sugars, refined carbs, corn, soy, wheat, "vegetable" oils, and any product containing these are known to be very inflammatory.

For any getbiggers who prefer instead listening to the corrupt World Health Organization (WHO):

Natural toxins in food

10 March 2023

"Some natural toxins can be formed in food as defense mechanisms of plants, through their infestation with toxin-producing mould, or through ingestion by animals of toxin-producing microorganisms.

Natural toxins can cause a variety of adverse health effects and pose a serious health threat to both humans and livestock. Some of these toxins are extremely potent.

Adverse health effects can be acute poisoning ranging from allergic reactions to severe stomachache and diarrhoea, and even death.

Long-term health consequences include effects on the immune, reproductive or nervous systems, and also cancer.

Exposure to natural toxins needs to be kept as low as possible to protect people. Natural toxins not only pose a risk to both human and animal health, but also impact food security and nutrition by reducing people’s access to healthy food."

Ever consider the toxins in vegetables are why they are healthy? Hormesis.

I'll eat vegetables regardless. Meat and potatoes with a salad is what I love the most. Though I do indulge in salad dressing, sauces for the meat.

Example, apple seeds contain cyanide

Most seeds contain some degree of cyanide
Almonds contain cyanide, 400gms of almonds can kill you
Dude ..what fucking pills did your doctor give you?
