so you have lee priest, a top bber for the last 8 years, is going to compete against guys like jack london, vince galanti, and other people who never trully qualified to turn professional. wayne is just filling up a roster. i predict the PDI will fold.

well, whether it be ifbb or pdi, does not matter. For me, top 5 in the noc will garner me much more than continuing the non-sense in the npc. Beating Lee Preist is not why I am going, I have no illusions, but top 5 will get me all I want, trust me, I will be happy, and so will those be in attendance. As far as poor attendance, the show is almost sold out already. Oh, one more thing, there has not even beena show, and I am making more money than half the ifbb pros.

Time will only tell. I'm just giving my perspective as a fan. Speaking of perspective, for $60 I could get great seats to see some of the best bands on the planet live in concert. AC/DC, Metallica, KISS, Slipknot, Manson etc. all put on a huge production with walls of amps and non-stop pyro not to mention a killer live performance. If the PDI is trying to get a new audience to attend it's shows, why would I give up my hard earned dollar to see a low budget (relative) production with only a handful of contenders and an obvious winner? There's only so much you can do with bodybuilding to make it exciting. I'm all for a change and a more interesting contest, but I just don't see the logic in such expensive tickets with the exception of proven large shows like the Olympia and The Arnold that consistently sell out.

If Wayne can consistently sell out venues at those prices, than my opinion is moot because he's not going to miss my dollar. But if attendance is poor the PDI and ultimately it's athletes will suffer when it folds. But who knows, Wayne's no dummy and is probably counting on the fact that the PDI's first event will generate enough hype that it will sell out or come close. The trick will be to keep the tickets selling.

Probably not, but with his connections and contacts don't worry everything is going in the perfect direction. And that flyer has been mailed to 1000's of BB fans around the world. If it's sold out, great - Wayne can then charge whatever he can get. It'll be interesting to see the following shows though. A lot of IFBB pro shows have folded over the years due to poor ticket sales, and for good reason. Mediocre lineups and sky high ticket prices are a recipe for failure. I think you mentioned a key point, the PDI seems to be set to go after the European market, a very smart move on their part. Even if they're not succesful here, they should do well there. Hopefully (and knowing Wayne, I'm sure he has) all the competitors are locked in by contract to compete. I think a big problem with the Colorado Pro was the constant lineup changes. There's no way in hell I'd plan a vacation to Colorado to see a pro show where you didn't even know who the hell was going to show up? For the average person, a vacation represents a couple of months of planning ahead to arrange tickets, hotels etc.

I've stayed out of the 20 page back-and-forth cat fights, very amusing to read however. I just don't understand whey there is so much negativity towards the new pdi venture. Yes it's new, no it hasn't proven anything yet, but why mock it?? The sport is and should be decided on by the FANS. Competition, or more choice is always good for the end user - the fans. Let's bring back some excitement into the sport, take it to the mainstream level that hasn't happened in 50-60 years of it's existence besides the Schwarzenegger/Pumping Iron era ;)

remember a few years back when the pros were allowed to use props. they looked retarted.
bbing will never be mainstream and it shouldnt. bbin should just continue to please its fans and new ones will come due to their own interest from working out, bbing, etc.
anyway you look at, most people are not interested in bbing competitions regardless of the pyro or whatever else you try to tease them with. its still guys in underwear in oil posing on stage.
espc. with all this talk about steroids in sports, the last thing bbing needs right now is publicity.
one more thing about the price money. sounds like a lot of money for a show with a mostly non-pro's copmeting. why would sponsors invest more in that show, then others shows, where the bbers are actually known?
also, people always bitched how bad bbing was in the 90's (besides the talent competiting). same people always placing in the same shows in the same places. the shows were boring and bbing suffered a great deal of less popularity from the 80's and 90's. well, guess who ran the bbing promoted many of the shows - DeMilia. nothing against wayne, i'm just a bit skeptical about how something can suppossedly be much better with much less talent?

I think it's because no one has mentioned the 2006 Olympia in about 2 weeks here. But we've had 5 or 10 PDI threads a day here, some of them very long.
If I was a sponsor, I'd put my money into the newer, smaller show that everyone is talking about it, instead of the older, most established show that is just plain boring to discuss.
If I was a casual fan, I'd wonder... Imagine how cool it would have been to attend the FIRST Olympia or FIRST Arnold Classic? This is even bigger... if magic happens, and the show is a huge success, and the PDI ends up growing and flourishing, the fans could say "I was there".

Exactly why languish in the NPC/IFBB monopoly when instead you can make a name for yourself on a grandstage with no politics? And the NOC will be sold out just because the name Night of Champions carries so much clout. Coleman, Ruhl, Nasser, Yates, so many great champions. Hopefully the trend will continue

i dont think its so much the NOC, but the location- new york city. People from the whole east coast can go and its not the hard to get too - just a few hours drive.
compare this to denver. where the fuck is denver and how many bbing fans actualy live there or would go there for a show if they live no where near there? also, you can go to ny and site see, but what would you do in dever, esp. if you dont ski? if the PDI show was in denver, even less people would show up than they did for shawn's show.

I would like to see the PDI succeed. What absolutely kills me is how everybody bitches about the direction the IFBB is headed and then don't support the PDI. I mean are you mental? Read the press releases! thats what bbing needs to be.

Also, look for (hopefully) Lee, Vinny or someone (or more) to appear in local news shows and hoepfully David Letterman. Howard Stern is another very possible avenue for exposure. PDI will be promoting the pleasing symetrical body that will bring back the days of Arnold, Zane, Reeves and others. Garanteed the NOC will easily be the most exciting and fun BB show of the year.

It would seem logical if there are more shows (ie more promoters vying for sponsors), advertising and sponsorship costs per show would go down.
BB.com isn't tied in with Weider and Manion's profit train, are they?
They're tied in with the radio station. Bob has gloated here once after deleting PDI content. The ppl over there are very excited about it. There were like 5 positive comments. Not only that, but my accounts keeps getting deleted after posting anything about the PDI :(

I think you are going to find it hard to believe, but all the shit Sean, and the others have done on the PDI is only making it (the PDI) stronger. Many people who have bad mouthed the PDI are slowly giving up because they see it IS happening and it IS going to be a big thing. The NOC is easily going to be the most exciting BB show of the year. the radio show (PDIradio) is easily going to overtake the current radio show sprouting off so much. Not only are the PDI pors going to be on it but allot of current and fromer IFBB pros who are involved with the PDI. The judges alone for the PDI are a who's who of the bodybuilding world. And Wayne has something very very special planned for the shows and I promise it will turn the way people look at bodybuilding shows for now on. As I have stated, the IFBB shows are boring. People want to be entertained and have fun for their money. The venue for the NOC is absolutely one of the best anywhere. EVERY seat in the place is like you are right on top of the competitor. Zoom lenses are not needed. The sound is the best available. Check out the concert and performers that place has had in the past. Anyone who goes to this show is going to love it and walk away with a whole new feeling about bodybuilding. And this is only the start.

I spoke with the UK sponsor just before I left on this trip. We are meeting next week with one of the major sponsors to discuss a marketing strategy for the tour.
I am aware of the name David Paul due to his excellent work - I assume you mean the photographer? - but I don't think we've ever met.

I spoke with the UK sponsor just before I left on this trip. We are meeting next week with one of the major sponsors to discuss a marketing strategy for the tour.

Why aren't Richard Jones and Alex Federov joining this thing? Kamali and Kai Green should also join. They're gonna count the actual posing routines entertainment value as 20% of the total score. These guys could actually do good in the PDI. Jumbo Palumbo should does it just for kicks.

You think so? Have you spoken with Wayne about the numbers? It doesn't look half-bad, actually.
besides, they're a private company anyway. Many companies operate in the red for the first 18 months. As long as the shows kick ass and the athletes get paid, what does it matter to you what their numbers are? As they get more athletes and market share, the numbers will flip and it'll become profitable.
Suppose the PDI does lose 500k the first year... prize monies are still there, shows are still high quality. The next year, with all the new guys that jumped/will jump, PDI can make more in ad rev, ticket sales, etc. Suddenly they break even. By year 3, the IFBB is imploding on itself, and the NPC is losing big chunk of its guys to the PDI JV group. Suddenly, they're up a million and the IFBB is way down.

You too were occasionaly an interesting debater but now that you've sold out to the PDI your bias is so overwhelming that it's become boring. How many PDI sites have you now registered so you can gain favor with Wayne?

lol, nice try. It's comments and negativity like yours that keep the sport stale. Thing you need to realize is that bbing DOES NOT please fans anymore. It's very stale, and visibly fixed. No need to go into the joke callouts/lack of comparisons of last years O, that is just one of hundreds of examples. If bbing to you is simply guys in "underwear" with oil then enjoy.
Once again, best of luck to the PDI. I am eager to see what comments come after the show is sold out and is a success? Probably the same comments we have after a major list of sponsors was produced.

excitment of the sport is not created by people riding on to the stage on large animals.
remember a few years back when the pros were allowed to use props. they looked retarted.
bbing will never be mainstream and it shouldnt. bbin should just continue to please its fans and new ones will come due to their own interest from working out, bbing, etc.
anyway you look at, most people are not interested in bbing competitions regardless of the pyro or whatever else you try to tease them with. its still guys in underwear in oil posing on stage.
espc. with all this talk about steroids in sports, the last thing bbing needs right now is publicity.
one more thing about the price money. sounds like a lot of money for a show with a mostly non-pro's copmeting. why would sponsors invest more in that show, then others shows, where the bbers are actually known?
also, people always bitched how bad bbing was in the 90's (besides the talent competiting). same people always placing in the same shows in the same places. the shows were boring and bbing suffered a great deal of less popularity from the 80's and 90's. well, guess who ran the bbing promoted many of the shows - DeMilia. nothing against wayne, i'm just a bit skeptical about how something can suppossedly be much better with much less talent?

What's PDI? What a poor choice of name for a much needed new federation. It conveys little information. The line-up needs to be stronger to sustain those ticket prices for any length of time. Vince and Lee are the only world class guys.
The primary reason to go to a show is to see the limits of physique development. The inclusion of gimmicks like Rhinos, acrobats, sword swallowers, gang rape and the like is just an admission that bodybuilding ain't up to much. Having said that, the latter will be good - rather like in ancient Rome, hopefully some mutilation will also be included.

Time will only tell. I'm just giving my perspective as a fan. Speaking of perspective, for $60 I could get great seats to see some of the best bands on the planet live in concert. AC/DC, Metallica, KISS, Slipknot, Manson etc. all put on a huge production with walls of amps and non-stop pyro not to mention a killer live performance. If the PDI is trying to get a new audience to attend it's shows, why would I give up my hard earned dollar to see a low budget (relative) production with only a handful of contenders and an obvious winner? There's only so much you can do with bodybuilding to make it exciting. I'm all for a change and a more interesting contest, but I just don't see the logic in such expensive tickets with the exception of proven large shows like the Olympia and The Arnold that consistently sell out.
Who's going to pay for the supply if there's no demand?

You can't be that stupid. That is a flyer that is mailed out to over a 1000 BB fans. Something the IFBB hasn't figured out to do. Thats' called cheap. I love the slect few who are hanging onto the sinking ship of the IFBB for as long as they can. It's very amusing.

they are the same thing. that's the point. PRIDE has more money, hence better talent and better fights. UFC always will take a back seat to PRIDE. same thing will the IFBB and PDI. people will always pay more money and pay more often to see the better talent. that is if the PDI survives more than a year.
