cardio question...
« on: November 09, 2006, 09:11:03 AM »
hey,
i cannot lift any heavy weight for the next, at least, 6 months, i had to have surgeries on both my shoulders from that stupid Army, yeah travel the world and see great things, yeah right, but anyways, so all i can do for the next 6 or so months is cardio type stuff, can anyone recommend things to do to keep a little size.  is that possible?  apparently being a mass monster aint happening after surgery, haha, but all jokes aside, i have an hour to 90 minutes a day to work out, 6 days a week, can anyone recommend a workout/eating schedule that would work with this.
any help would be A+
thank you!

Well, you can certainly train your legs still. Just use the pin and pulley weights. As far as cardio, if you are trying to maintain some mass then keep it to a minimum. 30 mins 3-4 times a week max. And be sure to keep your nutrition in check. Aside from that I cant imagine what would keep your shoulders out of the movements.

Hope this helps!

Use machines that will allow motions without involving the shoulders, such as a preacher curl machine.

For torso you're out of luck, unless your shoulders will allow you to do certain exercises and not others-maybe you can do pulling exercises like pullovers or rows for example, and not presses, or the reverse.

Do abs work, leg work, etc. and cardio.

Don't be too worried about maintaining size-you'll get it back quickly after healing..

cardio without weight training is gonna be extremely catabolic. if i was you, i'd eat tons of calories (but avoid too much simple carbs) and don't perform too much activity. lay in bed as much as you can. Consider this a break for your body to repair and refresh. muscle memory will bring ur muscles back quickly.

Wont preacher curls put a bit of strain on the shoulder just by keeping it locked in position? I guess if you went very light it would be okay.

True about gaining your size back. It should come quickly depending on how long you've maintained it.

Injuries can be so specific that there's no way other than to try specific motions to gauge the pain.

thanks for the responses.
my shoulders are fucked.   >:(  sometimes they even hurt from my arms moving when i run.  yes, its that bad.  but i guess the good thing is that multiple doctors have told me that after i recover that i will be good as new.
i do plan on keeping up with legs since i slack with that sometimes.
ok, but again, thanks for the suggestions.  i do appreciate it.
