You think Arnold might have calculated that reaction from Mike? Why? To make Mike look like a madman or something? (There were rumors of Mike at that time regarding ampetamines use I think)

This was Arnolds gift. He manipulated Mentzer until he was finished w/him. Arnold could cower, he could turn his back on Mike, it didnt matter. Mike had already lost the battle and the war.

hahahaha, remember the picture of Mentzer pointing at Arnold in anger while Arnold just sits there and smiles, that was a good one, someone should post it.

I read in his final interview that the ampthetamines were prescribed by doctors to help him with the energy crash that accompanies super strict pre-contest diets.

Why doubt that? He was a brutally honest person. And if steroids were being prescribed by doctors, why not ampthetamines?

If Arnold had no legs at that show, Mentzer had no chest.  :-X

Discuss.

Not the best pecs, but they're certainly not bad.

They certainly do! Mentzer clearly has the best mass/conditioning combo! His shape is the pinnacle of contest conditioning!

As I posted at this thread :

http://www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?topic=107748.0

I thought that the top three were Mentzer, Arnold & Dickerson with either one being the worthy winner. I really didn't think Zane was that great at the '80 Olympia, though others would disagree. Looked like he hadn't eaten in months, way too thin. This contest, along with the '72 Olympia, is considered to be the worst judging in the history of the sport. Yes, Menzter was atomically screwed but I didn't think that everyone was THAT much better than Arnold that there would be the uproar there was.

Mentzer's chest is so dense and full.  Makes Arnolds look like a couple of pancakes...*sarcasm*

I would have loved to be there, one of the classic Arnold moments I'm sure of it.

basically you can't compare anyone to Arnold in this sport, its Arnold. If we walked on stage right now they'd have to give him 1st place because the industry would collapse if they didn't. That fact alone makes me mad. I don't care what anybody says Arnold shouldn't have 7 Sandows.

Mentzer was incredibly intelligent from what I've seen of him.  This is an excellent DVD which displays his great intelligence:

Where were the video cameras when you REALLY need them. I've only watched The Comeback once and didn't think that much of it, should give it another look soon. It would have been awesome if they captured that exchange on film. I think Boyer had a strong opinion of himself as well, anyone seen Stand Tall ?.

Holy shit I have not seen this picture before... awesome :D

Arnold had a time in his life with daily rows and fights in beerhalls in Munich... so I wonder who would have kicked ass in a confrontation with Arnold

Mentzer got robbed in  1977 at the Universe, in 1979 at the Olympia and 1980 at the Olympia. No wonder he quit.
