Scientists have a lot to gain by going along with the orthodox position on global warming (not necessarily "faking" it).  It's a lot easier to get research money by swimming with the intellectual current and doing work that is trendy.  A number of scientists have gained tenure and written popular books based on the anthropogenic global warming theory.  So their reputations and incomes are directly tied to the manmade global warming hypothesis.

Are you saying that string theory is just a "popular thing"? Edwart Witten is one clever sob, and so are many other string theorists. In the next few years, the new accelerators might help giving some substance to string theory. Of course many people in physics are skeptical to string theory, it is very hard to prove... yet....

WILMINGTON (AP) — The cold weather gripping North Carolina means more stunned sea turtles off the state's coast.

The cold-blooded sea turtles become paralyzed by abnormally low temperatures. The StarNews of Wilmington reports that 30 turtles were reported in trouble Tuesday afternoon near Cape Lookout.

That's on top of the more than 20 turtles that Topsail Beach Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center director Karen Beasley says have already been discovered along the coast.

Loggerhead sea turtles are protected as a threatened species under the federal Endangered Species Act. Six loggerhead sea turtles that had been rescued from waters off the Outer Banks were released this summer after nearly six months at the Georgia Aquarium and the Georgia Sea Turtle Center.
