should i train legs
« on: February 09, 2007, 02:42:25 PM »
hey guys
I was wonding, is it a good idea to still train legs with a strained calf??  I strained my left calf when i was deadlifting.. it was a day after i had teeth pulled and i couldn't eat my normal and only had liquids. i was on the last rep at 315 (which is easy for me) i was coming down slow until i just droped the weight. I still train heaavy with all my other bodyparts. but i dont want to make my  calf strain worst.  since then I've been doing some legs with light slow down reps. like Milos does on the Fit Show. Mylegs are my best bodypart, but i can't stand not training a muscle group.

what do you guys think?? should i let my legs rest until it better then to train tho it?

thanks

listen to your body, if it's telling you to stop, stop.If you can train legs with no pain or anything then go ahead.

Dude, let the calf heal.  Use that time to build up a lagging bodypart

thx for the replies guys.  i will may it an upper chest shocker day. with  lots of reps to get  the most blood in there.

incline bb press  3x15-25
incline DB press 3x15-25
incline DB flyes  3x15-25
cable cross overs  3x15-25

the reason that I'm not going as heavy and just going for reps is b/c i killer my tris today. and I've already trained my normal chest day

Yeah bro i think u gotta rest. I had week of training last week (scheduled), and then played rugby on sat and twisted my ankle (still a wee bit swolen a week later), so obviously i missed legs this week which was annoying after missing them during my week off the week before (ahhhh).

Hope its ok this week though i am not sure!!

Can you get away with doing any exercises?  Leg extensions and curls shouldn't involve your calf and would allow you to maintain your size and strength until the calf heals.

I've returned to training legs again. When I train I dont feel any pain but, i have a hard time  walking around afterwards.

You might wanna try a stretching routine several times a week to help blood flow and mobility throughout your legs.

yea i might try that out. I usually stretch out my legs after training them. its very tripie sometimes b/c it feels normal and i walk normal then it might start get some pain.. I take some adivide and its fine. I do have trouble with some movements. on leg presses. I have a hard time getting left leg onto the platform... and i go little light on the lying leg curls b/c it inclines the calves  on the nagetive. but i just try to train tho now. i love training legs, i know alot of people dont share that feeling

Good to hear that ur getting back into it. After posting b4 sayin i hadnt worked legs for a week, i now havnt worked them for 3 weeks (including scheduled week off i had)+i wont be working them hard 2moro either, ankles still sore. turned out i damaged ligaments in my ankle, makes a nice crack every time i take normal step lol.

Gonna do sum hammy work 2moro and light calf work aswell as probs sum slow db squats or heavier 1/2 squats?!

So annoying as i was focusing more on legs.
