You'll look better lean with less muscle than fat with muscle...good luck and keep us posted.

Basically, you need to eat a lot less.

That's what you need to do for awhile.

Make sure the food you eat during that period of time is healthy, but eat less. A lot less.

Consider this Medford: 2 lbs of fat is cerca 8500 calories.

Your daily expandure is probably somewhere around 2000-2500, since you are a little person, but very active.

If you eat 1500 calories per day, you will lose up to 1000 calories every day, and 2 lbs of fat in 8 days.

Make sure those calories you eat are healty, and keeps you full.

And remember, you can eat as much veggies as you want, avoid the calorie dense sauces and such. The veggies will help keep you full.

Don't avoid salt either. As long as you drinks plenty of water: In moderate dosages, salt is your friend.

I would skip steak for a while, just until I dropped some weight........too calorie dense,V-8 is a no no also, eat veggies instead.

Opt for lighter proteinsources.......... .skinless chicken breast, tuna, eggwhites, whey mixed in water, skinless turkey breast, fish.

I'm in the same boat as you man.  Sucks too.  I've dropped 20lbs quickly, but I fear half of that was muscle.  I try to lift 2 times a week at moderate weight, but it's just not the same.  I miss that feeling like you beat yourself in the gym.  Like you challenged yourself past the limit.  Not fucking run 3 miles at a 4.5mph pace.  It's not fair.

If you dropped 20 lbs quickly it probably was mostly fat.  I bet you look a lot better now though?

20 lbs is a lot and you have to be real fat to take that off quickly.  Most people underestimate how much weight they need to lose.

I'm 6'2 and went from 270 down to 250 in under a month.  That was minimal lifting, bit mostly sprinting, eating fruits and 3 days of longer distance running.  But yeah, I can now fit into clothes I was uncomfortable in before.  And i'm noticing a lot more veins starting to show. :D

Don't worry about muscle loss, it's not sure that there will be a lot if eating right and doing some weights in between cardio sessions. You'll look better and IMO there will be very little effect/loss on muscle after getting down in weight and resuming more intense lifting.

Besides which, you CAN still do some good intense lifting while losing, just less of it! I've done it.

Quite a few athletes I come in contact with, who must lose excess body fat but keep the muscle mass, choose muscle meats as a main staple.  That would be steak, roast, ground beef, etc. Salmon and turkey would be the next selection. Both of these seemed to be overlooked as a high quality muscle building food. It's not so much the calories but the replacement of carb's with these foods. Quality oils and fats are included in a fat lost diet. The purpose being, to keep the performance level up (energy for strength/endurance, etc) for their sport. Also to keep most of that valued muscle mass. In some cases, muscle mass can increased slightly. They all want a weight reduction, but at a slower pace. A mean average is usually 10lbs in 3 to 4 weeks. All the while keeping the stamina (endurance/strength) at a high level. A depleted calorie intake usually will result in  muscle mass wasting. These are short term fat loss programs. Then back to a somewhat normal training diet, with increased high quality carb's.

If 20lbs of bwt is lost too quickly, than chanced are a large percentage of that was muscle mass. Something a athlete or BB'er never wants. Way too many BB'ers try the lower calorie and high cardio route and wind up looking like skinned rabbits on the posing platform. Of course if your a experienced druggie this need not apply , you should know what your doing. Good Luck.

I've focused on keeping my work outs intense to preserve muscle, while trying to loose fat by doing lots of cardio.I got burnt out quick low energy with sub par performance in the gym.now I think I might just focus on one or the other at a time.

Exactly what I do for training before season start. I up my endurance cardio but also my cals. I lose about 2-3lbs per week while staying at the same lean mass..

You CAN do both at once, but i've notice that some find it easier to do one then do the other. That is, lose the weight mainly through cardio with just a little weights, then once the weight is lost to resume more weights and reduce cardio.

What if one were to do cardio, then mass building exercises IE Deads and squats?  Would that be more contradicting to each other or compliment?
