and bodybuilding use to be on espn too and hardly ANYONE cares about bodybuilidng

hockey and bodybuilding have much in common :)

Very true.

But that's where the similarities end. One is played by tough athletes on ice, the other takes place on a stage, while almost nude, oiled up and in front of a crowd of gay men.

fighters are almost nude, what does that have to do with anything?

sporting events draw thousands and i'm sure some of them are gay

Yes, but the fighters are there to fight (doing something manly), no flexed, oiled up and pumped up for a corwd of men.

Of course ALL events will draw some gays. But I'd bet bbing is the biggest gay-crowd draw......just a hunch.

You are in some serious denial, Earl.

Do you "compete"?

Does anyone think beauty pageant contestants are athletes? They diet, train , tan and choreograph a routine for a contest. A bodybuilding competition is no different then a beauty pageant ( minus the beauty). BB has turned into a freak spectacle.

I repsect bb's. It takes a lot of dedication and hard work. You need to have great response to harmones, and good genetics. That said bb is not a sport. No matter how you slice it. BB takes no athletic ability. BB's eat, sleep, take juice, and train. You do not need superior hand eye coordination to bb. You do not need superior vision and speed to bb. You do not need superior athletic ability to bb etc etc.

While bb's have a ton of dedication, how do they have more then your average NFL player? 16 games a year. NFL players compete with some of the worlds best athletes week in and week out. They dont get to train for 2 hours then come home for a meal and a nap. They train while nursing injury and recovering from every sunday. NFL players play in the snow.. They play in the rain. They play hurt, and they play sick. They don't eat every 2 hours then take a shit. You need superior athletic ability to 99 percent of the population to sniff a starting down in the nfl.

I respect bodybuilding. I just cant call them pro athletes considering the circumstances! I am a ironage fan, so I am sure some of you will hate this post. How could anyone mention Ronnie/Jay in the same sentence with Micheal Jordan and keep a straight face.

A sport is a competition that requires athleticism.

Golf barely qualifies.
Bodybuilding barely doesn't.
Fitness competition qualifies.
Figure competition does not.
Ice Dancing and Diving qualify.
Poker, Darts, and Bowling do not.

Agree, but Golf is a close call. I would still consider golf a game, and not a sport.

The level of athleticism is increasing, which probably will mean golf could be considered a sport in a few years, although just barely.

it is not the same as a beauty pagent because there is no physical exertion involved

just because football players are superior athletes doesn't make bodybuilders non athletes

I don't compare ronnie to michael jordan and I also don't compare tiger woods to michael jordan

Not true. While it may be true for some here, I personally love bbing. The eating, training, the lifestyle. I was once a fan of comp. bbing, then I realized what a shady industry this is, and what these guys do........and changed my view entirely.

Agreed. Tennis is a serious sport. Just about the best non-contact cardio you could do and lots of skill, power, finesse, endurance, and athleticism all wrapped up in one.

John Daily ,is the "epitome " of what an athlete should look like ::),To play golf you need skills ,precision, talent ,knowledge ,same as a heart  surgeon ,walking 18 holes is not  hard at all ,unless you are Squadfather, Do you consider these two athletes ? .(OK ,now I'm going to the gym, I don't want to look like Squadfather ;D)

Any monkey can be taught to do bodybuilding poses. It's not kata.

You could think of posing as a slow dance at a dance competition.

Or slow ice skating routine at an ice skating competition.
