Alex23, I actually enjoy what I do very much.
I don't like to discuss income, but it seems you and I make very, very, VERY close to the same amount a year. And I can't complain about my job. I work at home, make my own hours, and to be honest, I rarely spend more than 15-20 hours a week actually working. A lot of my work is talking on the phone to guys about training and diet, things I like to talk about anyway. I love the sport, even if I do think the drugs have gone too far, and I can't ever see myself not training even if I moved on to some other type of writing that had nothing to do with bb.
As for MD, Steve Blechman was the man that allowed me to finally start making a decent living writing for bb mags in 2001. Before that I was struggling to have enough steady work and had to hustle to come up with article ideas all the time. A couple years before that, I was actually offered a position as a staff writer at Weider. It would have entailed a 90-minute to 2-hour commute from Covina to Woodland Hills every morning, probably 40-50 hours in an office a week, and for, get this - roughly a third of what I earn now. Plus, I am technically freelance, which means I am free to continue writing for Musclemag, Ironman, REPS, or anybody else I want to. So I get to support my wife and two kids and spend plenty of time with them. How could I complain about that?
