Shawn Ray: Please make a comeback!
« on: August 15, 2007, 10:13:29 AM »
I would love to see him make a comeback such as gary strydom and others are.  I think he would fair very well against todays guys, and could even place top five at most shows being as the judges are going more towards the streamline look.

I'm a Bacon & Egger these days, enjoying the family, baby (Asia just truned 2 Aug 10th)  and food. ;D
I'm a Fan now.
Regarding the stage, "Been there & Done that."
Dont want to take anything away from the Young Hungry Lions but it's a different game now and I've had my day in the sun.
Like many before me, I would not trade the experience as a Pro for anything in the world but my time has come and gone. At 42 this September, I actually enjoy not having to rely on my Physique to keep a roof over my head.
I enjoy my position as Spokeperson / Athlete Director for VYO Tech Nutritionals as well retirement from the stage.

I could never be what I was when I was younger and would be fooling myself if I tried.
Hope this helps.

Peace,
S. Ray

You were one of my inspirations to start working out. Your training vids taught me a lot. It was funny, that leg vid you did with Levrone where you asked him "what's in that calf man".  :D

I have love for all the guys doing there thing today and the way they do it is simply a reflection of the guys they compete against.
When i was up there, everybody was trying to raise the bar with their presentations, so you had to come correct or get smoked!
Labrada, Paris, Wheeler, Levrone & Taylor all took their Presentations very serious which in turn forced all of us to be on point!
With that said, no one is trying to raise the bar, so as a result you have mediocre routines.
I still watch, painfully at times but I get satisfaction simply from kn owning I was their at a time that wont be duplicated regarding the "DEPTH" of competition on all fronts: Routines, Physique, Genetics, Potential, Popularity, Personalities, Characters, Money, Fan Following and everything else that was good in our sport from the 80's to 2000!
Peace,
S

Yes, and Chris Dickerson was 43 when he won the Olympia in 82.
That said, Both Ronnie & Chris began their careers much later than I did at 17yrs old.

I had other desires by the time I retired at 36, like getting married and starting a family, of which, neither of the two athletes mentioned above had at that age. :-*
My plate was Full after 20 yrs in the game.

Unlike others, Shawn chose to stay in the general field that relates to bodybuilding, and still comes to supports the shows. It is always cool to see bodybuilders that have retired at the shows.

Props to Shawn for going, even to local NPC shows!

Side Effect? ???
I love Food More, the taste and variety. ;D

Many guys have kids during and after their careers:
Mike Christian, Lee Haney, Sergio Oliva, Flex Wheeler, Kevin Levrone, Lee Labrada, Rich Gaspari, Dorian Yates, Bob Cicherillo, George Farah, Victor Martinez, Chris Cormier, Ronnie Coleman

So you see, it's not rocket science when it comes to making babies and of course everyone has a different level of sex drive. You'd have to ask Dr. Ruth if your experiencing problems in that area, as everything on me is fully functional and working on baby number two this year! ???
Wish me luck! 8)
