Because if we didn't secure our long-term oil supplies, they're be a lot more poor in America.  World oil reserves are running out... we're beyond peak production...  and with an emerging China hungry for more and more oil, we need to ensure our oil keeps flowing.  Quickest way to crash the US economy?  Cut the oil supply to less than the demand. People can't get to work, delivery trucks stop rolling cutting off our resupply of food and goods, essential services become unreliable or shut down altogether.  It ain't a pretty picture.

Bump for the truth, more funds should be directed towards the real cause.  Can these people not see that the raising the cost of oil makes everything increase?  The costs are passed directly to the consumer.  I forgot everyone here is independently wealthy and doesn't have to worry about such nonsense. ::)

Biggest Steroid Raid Ever 09-24-07
« Reply #26 on: September 24, 2007, 09:47:56 AM »
124 People Charged; 56 Labs Seized

The DEA said the wide-ranging probe, dubbed "Operation Raw Deal," was assisted by foreign governments in nine countries including China and led to the seizure of 56 laboratories for manufacturing anabolic steroids and human growth hormone.

Investigators said in all more than 11 million doses of steroids were seized, in addition to nearly $7 million in cash, 25 cars, three boats and 71 weapons.

Agents said they seized more than 500 pounds of raw powder originating in China and used to manufacture steroids.

In addition to New York, raids and arrests took place in San Diego, Houston, Kansas City and Providence, R.I., said Sanders.

Officials said the investigation was international in scope, stretching from Mexico to Australia, Sweden to Thailand.

DEA officials called the importation a public health issue, saying some of the importers mislabeled the products and that the drugs are often produced in unsafe, unsanitary conditions. For example, agents said, some of the drugs were being produced in bathroom sinks

Drug Enforcement Administration officials say they wrapped up the largest investigation of illegal steroid use in U.S. history early this morning. An investigation that, they say, leads directly back to China.

Sources tell ABC News that a series of raids across the United States uncovered an extensive underground network of illegal laboratories and large-scale marketing operations via the Internet.

More than 56 labs were targeted, with more than 120 arrests made in New York, San Diego, Providence, Kansas City and Houston.

Operation Raw Deal allegedly discovered millions of doses of anabolic steroids, human growth hormone and other drugs worth tens of millions of dollars.

Investigators say they identified more than 30 companies in China that allegedly supplied the chemicals needed to produce steroids.

According to DEA officials, the precursor drugs from China were shipped to the United States where drug dealers would then use their labs to produce the finished steroids.

Underground Web sites, chat rooms and message rooms marketed the drugs to young people and athletes.

The magnitude of the operations uncovered suggests that the customer base for illegal steroids is clearly in the thousands. And those taking the steroids without a doctor's prescription might not realize just how dangerous they are.

Officials say the drugs are often produced in unregulated, often filthy conditions.

Anabolic steroids can have serious side effects, such as strokes, blood clots, high blood pressure, heart disease, liver damage and severe mood swings, including aggression.

The results of the probe are expected to be announced Monday in a series of press conferences around the country.

----

Authorities call it "Operation Raw Deal." Yahoo! columnist Dan Wetzel calls it "Armageddon" for athletes.

It's a multinational drug bust stretching all the way to China that has already led to more than 100 arrests and could make many athletes nervous. The Washington Post's Amy Shipley says the operation could have "unusual and unnerving repercussions for the clientele of the labs."

Shipley describes the raid: "Federal agents raided more than four dozen underground drug labs and arrested 124 people in 27 states during an 18-month crackdown on Chinese steroids, human growth hormone and other performance-enhancing drugs that reached its culmination in the last four days, Drug Enforcement Administration officials said yesterday. ...

And she points to China's role: "Under pressure from Olympic and world anti-doping officials to address China's reputation as the main global supplier of illicit performance-enhancing drugs with the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing just 11 months away, Chinese authorities cooperated with the probe, DEA officials said."

Why should athletes care? Yahoo! writer Josh Peter explains: "Federal officials are creating a database of names of the people who received steroids, human growth hormone (HGH) and other drugs banned by most sports leagues and athletic associations, DEA spokesman Rusty Payne said."

ESPN's Shaun Assael tells us investigators are active in the virtual world as well: "The investigation also focused on message boards where advice is traded about obtaining raw materials, as well as on the Web sites that help the labs sell finished products to the public. Hundreds of thousands of e-mails were intercepted, according to Dan Simmons, a San Diego-based special agent for the DEA."

Peter also gives the total value of drugs seized in the raids: "Investigators hauled in countless bags and boxes loaded with steroids that have a street value potentially exceeding $50 million, Payne said. The stockpile included 11.4 million doses of steroids, which based on the 0.5 milliliter per dose used by the DEA for calculations, amounts to about 570,000 vials that each hold 10 milliliters."

Shipley's story says we'll have news conferences today in New York, San Diego, Houston, Kansas City and Providence, R.I.

---

A Sayreville, N.J., electrician who allegedly operated out of a basement filled with chemicals, tubs and vials was charged yesterday with manufacturing, possessing and distributing anabolic steroids from his upscale home on a quiet cul-de-sac.

The raid at the home of Alfred Scarpa, 34, was the second major steroid-related raid launched by law-enforcement officials this week.

"It appears from today's events and the investigation leading up to today's raid that Mr. Scarpa was a major manufacturer and distributor of illegal steroid products," Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Kirsch said.

The Justice Department said Wednesday that Specialty Distribution Systems, Inc., of St. Louis, had admitted distributing human growth hormone to athletes and entertainers, and agreed to pay a $10.5 million fine and to cooperate with investigators.

Albany County District Attorney David Soares, meanwhile, is continuing his two-year investigation into pharmacies and doctors who illegally distribute steroids, HGH and other drugs over the Internet.

Scarpa, who has two previous felony drug convictions, admitted he was involved in buying, making and selling steroids, according to a Drug Enforcement Agency complaint filed in federal court yesterday. Scarpa was ordered held without bail by U.S. Magistrate Esther Salas.

Kirsch would not comment when asked if Scarpa had supplied athletes with performance-enhancing drugs, saying the investigation remains active and ongoing. He also declined to say if he expected further arrests. But the arrest has surely caught the attention of athletes, team executives and league officials.

Kirsch said DEA agents seized almost $57,000 in cash and two semiautomatic weapons from the Sayreville home, and Kirsch said Scarpa could face additional charges.

The basement was filled with tubs, bottles and equipment associated with the manufacture of steroids, including a centrifuge, according to the complaint.

Vials labeled as stanozolol, testosterone and nandrolone were also seized from the home.

"It is obvious," said Kirsch, "that Mr. Scarpa was a major manufacturer of steroids."

All the money spent on the investigation would have been much better spent on tracking down murderers, child molesters, rec drug dealers etc.

Haha

Yeah it's sad, responsible steroid use is great to improve your health, sports and life in general. Hell, many of the dea agents are fanatic users themselves. Professional athletes continue to use steroids with the help of docters/steroid designers etc, beating every stupid drug test they encounter.

When do the governments learn?  ::)

Ah well, my country has the best UG labs in the world and are unaffected by these "raids". Time for my next cycle in 3 months!!

good post............would be a smart move. but i can see from his posts that he isnt.

but the idea of setting himself up as a huge aas dealer would be a smart strategy for an underground agent.

Pretty fvcken sad... the Feds looking to set-up some small fish on the internet. I wouldn't be surprised.  :-\

Exactly.

We even have one guy saying he'd relocate, all over steroids. How pathetic.

I love how they just will not admit/accept, that their drug use/abuse IS A CRIME. Whether or not it should be legal is not the issue. Do I believe that roids should beat illegal, not necessarily. But in the end, as it stands right now, it is what it is.

This bust probably represent a tiny fraction of what is really out there. Big busts like this grab a lot of news, but what doesn't always get a lot of press is the impact of the bust on the drug economy. About 3 years ago there was a 14-ton bust of cocaine, at the time the largest ever, where the DEA went in later to determine the price for cocaine shortly after that.  It didn't budge one penny.

That's why we keep it underground. But more and more "regular" people are getting their facts right on steroids. After a while it becomes acceptable, just like the most dangerous drugs ever "alcohol"

I keep forgetting that steroids are really illegal.  what a silly law.  but yeah, you do gotta respect it.  they don't bust you unless you buy/sell, and do it repeatedly.

some of these steroid dealers should spend the money on law degrees instead of bling.  Change the laws.

Ok im stopping there. this is getting a lot of news but heres the deal, this might be the biggest bust, but its probably onle a fraction of whats really out there. A few years back DEA busted 10 tons worth of cocaine then they checked the street value and it didnt move one penny.
All this work for what? HUMONGOUS WASTE OF TAX DOLLARS. Most people dont realize this because the news feeds them garbage, but did you know the strongest steroid, oxymetholone (anadrol) is equivalent to ONE VODKA SHOT in its hepatotoxicity? Thats right ONE VODKA SHOT. There are people going out Wed-Sun drinking there ass off but thats okay? After work they have a little martini.. and its fine. People have BARS IN THEIR HOUSE!  All these regular club goers are drunk off their ass atleast 3 days out of the week but its all good right?
Makes you wonder how come the governement, thats so concerned about health doesnt go after alchohol and try to ban it again. Especially with all the DRUNK DRIVERS, which is probably 1/3 to half the people that go out drinkin every weekend..who kill so many innocent people because they wanted to go out and have a "good time" without paying a cab fair.
Does anyone know why steroids are banned in the United States in the first place? Because in the 1988 Seoul Olympics Ben Johnson, a CANADIAN, beat the shit out of AMERICAN Carl Lewis the former champion.  At this time, Lewis was calling people out for drug use because he was getting his ass kicked and there were a lot of new comers from no where. So what happens? They test Ben Johnson positive for steroids. Oh the Canadian cheated! Here you go USA, you are the real champ for being a natural athlete! LIke Carl Lewis was natural to begin with, just because he wasnt caught doesnt mean he was natural- and trust me if they tested him months earlier, I guarantee you would catch him on some sort of AAS but he just got it out of his system in time. There a few more incidence such as the football player lyle alzado which led to govt speculation of steroids. Alzado claims that AAS cause him to have BRAIN TUMORS. When in fact, LYLE ALZADO WAS A homo WHO GOT AIDS AND THATS HOW HE DIED. HE WAS TOO ASHAMED TO ADMIT IT AND BLAMED IT ON STEROIDS USE AND MADE UP THAT CANCEROUS TUMOR WERE GROWING IN HIS HEAD.Anyway, the USA Government then went on a fucking crusade to ban AAS as a SCHEDULE III substance.  SCHEDULE 3!   The same classifcation for COCAINE if im not mistaken.
The DEA and the AHA analyzed AAS and came to the conclusion that it WAS NOT a drug, that was harmful enough to be classified as a schedule 3 controlled substance. In fact, THEY SAID THAT IT SHOULD NOT BE ILLEGAL AT ALL. They could not find a SCIENTIFIC REASON, for the life of them , as to why steroids should be illegal. But the governemnt did anyways because, after all the paperwork, the conclusion was that it  taught kids to take the easy way out and it smeared the name of hard work, and it didn create a level playing field in athletics! Ifyou go the the governements ownwebsite that reports deaths and the causes of them in the united states, next to AAS THERE ARE ZERO DEATHS. TO THIS DAY THERE ARE ZERO DEATHS DIRECTLY RELATED TO AAS USE. ZERO!!!!!!! ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE!
Ok now these people are worrying about influencing children in the wrong way??? The same people, maybe not the same members of congress, but the same organization that in a recent study, was found that 2/3 of them were caught DRUNK DRIVING! 2/3!  These are the type of poeple that get elected and help pass such bullshit laws.
If they are worried about creating a unlversal playing field, what about personal use? Its been proven that HRT, (hormone replacement therapy) can dramatically increase a mans health. No answer is given it should just be banned anyways!
Yet, the FDA, on a regular basis, ALLOWS PRESCRIPTION DRUGS to be APPROVED FOR SAFE USE THEN TO FIND OUT THAT IT IS NOT A SAFE DRUG. I dont even have to give examples for this everyone sees this all the time. That a drug that was approved shortly after is found to have TREMENDOUS side effects. Physicians prescribe new drugs that they know nothing about to their patients all the time because THEY GET KICK BACKS FROM THE DRUG COMPANIES. Drug companies PUSH NEW SHIT ON THEM TO MAKE SALES NUMBERS, then THE DRS GIVE THEM OUT TO PATIENTS AND REPORT TO THEM HOW IT WORKS OUT.
This is your government today folks.YES IT IS A BIG DEAL. This isnt just about AAS. This EFFECTS EVERYONE. BECUASE THE GOVERNMENT HAS DECIDED TO MAKE MORAL DECISIONS FOR YOU. THE GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO DECIDE WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU. Your individual rights are at stake. Governement intervention is the cause for a vast majority of problems in the country. Just look at health care. What a mess! And these people want to make it so that it is more controlled by the governement and so that its free? Ha. Making it free isnt going to solve anything its making it WORSE. In the history of the wold, NO GOVT has been able to control or regulate ANYTHING fairly or properly. It collapses because the QUALITY of FREE SERVICE OR PRODUCT GOES DOWN FROM SUCH HIGH DEMAND ESPECIALLY, WHEN ITS SOMTHING AS VALUABLE AS HEALTH CARE.
FOR YOU YOUNG LADIES, IF THE CURRENT TREND OF THE CULTURE CONTINUTES, LETS SEE YOU GETTING ANY SORT OF BIRTH CONTROL PILL PERIOD.  BIrth control pills for women, are what AAS are for men. Yes theyare the same. They have found that  testosterone therapy s a MALE BIRTH CONTROL just like Estrogen is for women. It is only a matter of time before everyne is effected and then people say.. hey whats going on? After its way too late.
To reverse the cultura trend it STARTS with you. Dont lazily BRUSH THINGS OFF. If you are passive guess what? You are going to get taken advantage of and you will not be able to do anything about it in the future. Whenever you see individual rights being given up to the "collective good" speak against it. Trends start with one person and then small groups. If you notice, the Universities are the BIGGEST causes of these trends. It all starts in the classrooms. Young minds dont know any better and  most professors are leftists, so they spread their ideas and then it carries with people into adulthood and into their job decisions. Drs, news reportor, actor, congressman, banker, lawyer, sales rep. etc. Then those people VOTE laws that cause damage to themselves beause afte school " they already have their education" and they never study anything else, and just drowned themselves with alchohol, TV , shopping and parties. A huge sign of a lack of self esteem because if you notice none of it has to do with what they ae passionate about in life, more time is spent on other things than what they feel for the most- and its no wonder where that came from- they were never taught to have a proper grasps of reality and what is good or bad! So they just do what everyone else does and because of FEAR OF LOOKING LIKE THEY HAVE NO REAL KNOWLEDG OR ANSWERS, they pass on whatever crap they learned and make stuff up to fill in the blanks.
If you realize the importance of what i said and see that there needs to be a change, it all starts with philosophy. Your value system, whether you are conscious of it or not,  tells you what to do . What value system is right or wrong? You have to go on your own journey to figure it out. And I suggest you start with the exact opposite of what a majority your family believes in, and what your friends believe in because the majority is what is not looking so good right now.

Exactly.
As far as im concerned, the drugs we should be working towards getting rid of are the ones with the highest usage rates. When you look at it that way, gear is pretty low, in terms of usage, and the people who take it, 95% of them are just trying to improve themselves for their sport.

They go on about how dangerous gear is, but they seem to fail to realise that some people have died from taking just ONE ecstasy tablet. Im 18, i know for a fact that all these recreational drugs and shit are EVERYWHERE, get rid of them first, there far more dangerous. When that is taken care of, then focus on gear.
Pills containing PMA are potentially deadly but pills containing MDMA (ecstasy) are almost never fatal.
