Franco's Trick
« on: December 25, 2007, 12:52:01 PM »

Many of you may know that Franco would often blow up and explode hot water bottles to entertain crowds.

One year, while perfromning at Mountain Park (Ed Jubinville's affair) in Holyoke, Mass., a friend of minbe who has been a traiuner for m any years and was at this event accidently walked in on Franco in hbis dressing room as he was 'preparing' for his act.

My friend said Franco had turned the hot water bottle inside-out, and was carefully sanding down a small spot with a piece of sanding paper.

"Insurance", Franco said to my friend as he walked out from whence he came.

Guess that's how those things would pop so easily.

Now that is a good story. I have no idea how you would invert a hot waterbottle as the neck is so small and thick, but great story anyway.

I used to blow up hot water bottles at events.  I used the thickest and highest grade water bottle cause it was much more impressive cause of how big it got.  Franco used the easier thinner model.  One time at a show the people bought a cheap one.  I didn't even notice and started to blow it up.  It pop so quickly maybe after 15 or so breathes that it surprised me and slapped me in the ears.  Also, I never heard about the sanding of the bottle (plus I don't think you can turn one inside out.  That woudl be pretty impossible) but i did hear he would pinch the bottle or even dig his fingernail into it.

Did your friend also tell you how to get the toothpaste inside the tube again after it's been squeezed out?

Hey Only. Good to hear from you.

Maybe he didn't invert it...does seem hard. He did say that a piece of sandpaper was involved...and that ensuing shenanigans made the feat less impressive than it seemed on Franco's part. Given his lung capacity, I don't see why he'd have to do that.

Yes, I got your 'point', but I really am not smitten to sarcasm.

I find it a waste of time and am really interested in exchanging interesting and helpful info amongst you and others in this forum.

Rich Gaspari did it too and I believe his biggest concern was accidentally inhaling all the air in the balloon which could in turn collapse his lungs.

Actually I have heard 3 people have died because of this.  The pressure is so high that in between blows if you don't cover the hole with your tongue and inhale through you nose then the pressure can actually blow up your lungs.  The hardest part I always found wasn't so much the blowing it up as holding the water bottle against your mouth so it doesn't leak.  I have never not blown it up in front of an audience.  I have a video of me at a celebrity softball game I was playing in Honolulu and at the beginning of the game they asked me to pop one.  So I handed my camera to my friend Carolyn Sapp and she recorded me.  You can hear a little air escaping but I hung in there and did it.  I remember at the Grand Opening of Golds in Honolulu I had Lee Haney try it and he almost passed out just trying to get it going.

Gayer than asking a guy to remove his dentures before he blows you

LMFAO! Are you saying that if we are talking playing the slobber blues on some guy's skin flute, then Onlymen's lip talent would be unmatched, db?
